yes in vmware it doesn't make a diffrence

Of course it makes a difference. When using VMWare you're emulating hardware, which isn't the hardware you physically have. That's why it's not working and will never work, since you're using kernel extensions for some specific nForce based motherboards, and the virtual machine is Intel based I think.

I've used verdant's (awesome) guide and have had Snow Leopard working for some time now on an Asus P5N-T. The only thing I don't have is sleep. I followed this post for a while hoping the solution would eventually turn up. Haven't been back in a while......has there been any luck here or elsewhere with this? I did notice that there were some people who filled out the survey as "100% working including sleep and wake from sleep"...I have not heard of anyone with an nForce board and working sleep??

Sleep did work for me in 10.5.6 last (not 10.5.7) The problem I have is that it doesn't even shut the fans/drives down, even though the power light starts blinking. As I understand it, others have different problems with not waking from sleep, no response to mice/keyboards, etc. I can't even get to that point to see if I will have those as well ;)

Sleep works 100% from 10.5.1 up to 10.5.6 on my 650i MOBO but not for 10.5.7 or 10.5.8 or Snow Leopard......but unfortunately, I have not yet had the time free from my "real life" to sort out the necessary DSDT mods to get audio working on my 650i chipset MOBO......

Suggest you look at topics on DSDT modding posted to by MasterChief........THe KiNG.... and others......

Verdant,

I found out something recently, whilst reading some info, that if your computer is listed as a MacPro4,1 that it creates a KP with the AppleTyMCE.kext, I have yet to change mine to see if this works (since I had a problem with it). I cannot remember where I read it though

Hope this helps anyone with this.

Have you not yet tried installing Leopard physically on your 680i XD nForce MOBO using, for example, iPC 10.5.6 to sort out any problems before trying to install Snow Leopard......? Distros with AppleNForceATA.kext for Leopard are more common......see my blog and Pre-Series 7 Leopard install guides......

I think that in the screenshot you posted you were trying to boot Mac OS X in VMWare, instead of physically doing it.

Asus Striker II Formula

Q6600 CPU

Two Nvidia Geforce 9800 GTX 512MB

Onboard Sound

Dual Onboard LAN

I have succefully been able to get to the installer and Format my drive (Applenforceata.kext) to GUID and setup the partition journaled. I then get to the install and am able to select my drive but when the install starts the log shows that the installer is unable to find receipts in the host volume library among other things. I have PlatformUUID.kext installed using the USB device UUID to load the OS. Can someone tell me what I am doing wrong or what I should try in order to get this installed?

Thank you for any help you can give,

Try with only one GFX card installed.......

Try by only installing the base system and no printer drivers.....and if the base system installs OK , then reinstall OS X from within SL.......

I assume you have followed all steps in section D of my guide........

Has anyone tried this?: http://www.infinitemac.com/f36/applenforce...compiled-t5144/

I'm not home at the moment, therefore I can't try this kext myself. I'll be home by saturday, so if anyone could try it out for me, that would be cool!

Hope this isn't fake and will allow us to run the 64 bit kernel.

Cheers.

JM

PS. If you plan to try the kext, make sure you have some way to put back the old kext in case this one isn't working.

Howdy! First time poster here on these forums; Hackintosh newb here who has successfully gotten 10.6.2 up and running on his nforce board!. I figured i'd list my specs/setup/particulars here because my installation method seems to be a bit different than what most people do (or so i gather reading various forums).

My Hardware

EVGA i680 Motherboard

3.0GHZ intel wolfdale

BFG GTX+ 9800 512

2x2 DDR2 RAM

To setup and install my system i initially created a stripped down direct clone of an existing 10.6.2 install off of a Macbook Pro. I used a current version Carbon Copy Cloner to selectively clone only necessary components. I created a test account before cloning (and did not clone over my original file-riddled user account). I also filtered printers, support files for addon applications and anything else that was more or less un-necessary. I used a 160GB SATA drive as my target volume, formatted in GUID with one partition.

On my existing macintosh i manually installed Chameleon RC3 into this volume, and layed out a properly permissioned Extra directory using only the following kexts :

AppleNForceATA.slash.kext

Disabler.kext

fakesmc.v2.kext

IONetworkingfamily.kext

NullCPUPowermanagement.kext

OpenHaltRestart.kext

PlatformUUID.kext

I used the vanilla kernel with -x32 and arch=i386 preset in my com.apple.boot.plist file for chameleon

I did not initially generate a dsdt in advance; the system booted fine without it.

I did not put a UUID into anything in advance, the system booted fine without it

I did use the SMBIOS.plist file from the v2.2 support package before my initial boot.

After a successful boot :

a standard EFI string enabled the graphics card.

I patched DSDT and set the UUID

I used the default BIOS settings and everything worked just fine.

I installed the AzaliaAudio pkg i found on kexts.com and have partial audio functionality. (i only get HD Audio outputs for some reason)

USB and Firewire seem to be fully functional

-EDIT : It would seem that firewire is unstable. Although it responds quickly, extended length/large file transfers cause the system to hard freeze; i was getting lockups about 10-15 gigs into a file transfer from a FW drive to my boot volume. I had noticed other folks were having some freezeup issues with their onboard firewire, so I suppose I'm not surprised. Annoying, but not a show-stopper.

A few random questions if anyone is so inclined to answer.

My onboard networking is non-functional, and from what i gather that is still an issue with 32bit operation/drivers on some nforce boards? I can't seem to get a clear picture on that. There is a 64 bit networking extension floating around, but that breaks SATA compatability or somesuch?

Also, system time seems to be out of sync. several hours off of what the bios shows, and it is non editable in System Preferences. is this a DSDT issue of some sort? Or am i clueless and making a incorrect assumption and is something else the root cause.?

Can I assume that only seeing only the HD_Audio outputs is probable a DSDT issue of some sort, or would that probably be whatever enabler/driver i used?

Please direct me elsewhere if and of this isn't nforce specific.

I can only say thanks for the guides and documentation all of you have provided!. This is FANTASTIC!

The HDA patcher1.20 + that file cause my system to kernel panic immediately after the patcher is run; and panic during boot afterward until the generated HDA file is removed.

I ensured all my previous audio kexts were removed and repeated the process with the same results.

I shall have to investigate further. I did notice something interesting though; after restoring the stock HDA file to my system; rebooting with a USB headset attached caused my console to generate a looping 'cannot enumerate usb device' error for the port the headset was on; this only occured with the stock HDA file installed for some reason.

In regards to that nForce ATA kext for 64 bit, looking at the forum i see that all those users are running AMD based nForce boards. I wonder if thats not going to work on a intel unit. . . .

Well, well, well folks, what do we have here? Oh yeah, that's right, it's me typing from 10.6! LOL Ok, so following verdant's guide and with a little luck, I was able to get a fully bootable system running with my graphics in place, my sound working properly and everything else EXCEPT SLEEP! :( But, I'm glad, has anyone mad any progress with sleep? I'm also not really willing to use Apple's software update just yet because for some reason my motherboard doesn't like Vanilla kernels except for 10.0.0, so, do you think that if I was to update and just go into my clone and MOVE the old mach_kernel from the clone to the updated 10.6.2, would it work??? Thanks!

PS: VERDANT YOU ARE AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THANK YOU SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH!

VERRRRRRRRRRYYYYYYYYYYY Interesting thing I just found...Ok, so I was weary about updating to 10.6.2, so I ccc'd my SnowLeo partition into SnoLeoBkp and I updated thinking "well, if my mobo is ok with the vanilla 10.0.0 kernel, and not with 10.2.0 kernel...then would it 'Just work' with 10.0.0?" AND IT DOES!!!!!!!! I updated my clone, rebooted, got a KP at restart, rebooted, went into my SnowLeo drive, copied n pasted that mach_kernel to my Bkp, rebooted with -v -f...BOOTED JUST FINE! I did notice that nForceLAN was still working fine, I'm actually typing this from 10.6.2 and I also notice my sound was gone again, so, since I still had the AppleHDA and ALC888 kexts in my flash drive, I just kexthelper'd them suckas back in and BOOYAH, back to normal. So right now, I'm gonna test out a few different things including installing some apps and stuff to SEE if I get any KP's with 10.6.2 running 10.0.0 vanilla kernel.

Behold a screenshot!
