I seem to have a similar problem as jasjeet and ratz1 and can't find any reply to them.

I have a Gigabyte GA-G31M-ES2LRev2.0 MB with GF7100GS/External LAN card with a fully working Leopard 10.5.8

I do everything according the guide and everything seems to complete without errors.

The USB boot up and I choose the SnowInstaller. After a few seconds a short message at the top corner says someting about errors during startup and pausing 5 sec, then after initially starting the gray OS X crash screen comes up telling me to hold down power button till it restarts.

What am I doing wrong?

Hi everyone,

I have followed this guide among many others and this one has gotten me the closest to actually getting SnowLeo up and running. I have managed to get past the error of it not finishing the install, however I have a new issue. I get past the darwin screen and now it just shows the grey screen with the apple logo and the system freezes. No panic or anything. Keyboard locks up, no beachball or anything. Using -v shows the loading of the kexts then it just goes to the same screen. Any idea on how to solve that?

Works for me. its very clean installation.

I used efi studio to install my gfx. GT 8600.

But i having problem with audio. In system preference, it has the items but at sound preference setting, i cant seem to get any audio from the speakers. I have the option to slide the volume but i just dont see anything kicking. I have SPDIF last time when using 10.5.2 but no for this.

The kext i used is AppleHDA.kext and HDAEnabler.kext. do i need to do something to DSDT? As i read from else where. they managed to get audio using this method without any DSDT.

By the way, can i transfer things from my old mac 10.5.2 account to this new installer? previously i had problem booting after transferring.

Anyway help? Many Thanks in advace! Cheers

Hi,

I have the same motherboard. sleep works for me but not the audio. i think mine is F4 or F1? the one which comes from factory. I m using HDAEnabler.kext and AppleHDA.kext post install with kext helper. I get to see the thing in the system preference just no audio coming out.

I m using macloader 0.3. macloader 0.4 gave me KP whenever i boot. i m not use what is the difference.

Cheers

Have you tried VoodooHDA.kext ? be sure to use the newst kextutility 2.3 to install it or you can also use the update script that come in this OS X package.

Hi everyone,

Right now I have followed the instructions as best as I could on setting up a USBkey install of Snow Leopard, and for some reason I get this error when I boot off the key:

"appleusbehci" error -cannot initialize uim. Waiting for root device"

Not sure why this happens, hopefully someone has seen this before? I have my dsdt.aml, smbios.plist, apple.boot.plist. And the Apple ps2 kexts with voodoohda kexts installed in the Extra folder. no idea what I'm missing. I'm adding as many kexts as I can in hopes to fix this issue.

I'm completely lost at the moment, anyone have advice?

Ok, was able to finally get passed the error by adding the iousbmassstorage.kext and also added the appleusbhci.kext, and the iousbfamily.kext

Now I just get a screen blank with my mouse cursor showing up and then the busy sign (rainbow pinwheel) appears. I can move my mouse...if that's a good thing....

MACinized,

Why don't you stop ignoring AzN_DJ and answer his question. He's asked it twice.

if i know the answer, or at least i have a suggestion, i would provide it.

why don't you provide the answer as you have the guts to be arrogant? :(

Error 4050 - ^ Method local variable is not initialized (Local0)

./dsdt_fixed.txt 289: Store (Local0, Local0)

I think you have to format your drive as GUID partition, this OS version won't install on MBR format.

I can confirm that the USB Drive is formatted as a GUID Partition.

Disk Description :	Generic STORAGE DEVICE Media	Total Capacity :	8.17 GB (8,168,931,328 Bytes)
Connection Bus :	USB	Write Status :	Read/Write
Connection Type :	External	S.M.A.R.T. Status :	Not Supported
USB Serial Number :	000000091607	Partition Map Scheme :	GUID Partition Table

Any other suggestions ?

If you have another usb drive sit around try it, I have seen some of the usb drive can't use to boot up. You can also use a HD partition Int./Ext don't matter that work too. That is all i can think of.

Cheers,

I have tried 4 other drives from flash to internal and External Drives. I have also tried on 2 different Mac's.

It appears that the part of the script that is going {censored} up is:

echo
cd ScriptFiles/i386
fdisk -f boot0 -u -y /dev/rdisk$INSTALLERDISK
dd if=boot1h of=/dev/rdisk${INSTALLERDISK}s${INSTALLERPARTITION}
cp boot "${INSTALLER}"
cd ..
cd ..

The script is reporting "No such file or directory"

I can confirm that the fdisk file and i386 directory is untouched and intact.

Bigspoon:ScriptFiles wheeler$ cd i386
Bigspoon:i386 wheeler$ ls
boot boot1f32	boot1he cdboot fdisk
boot0 boot1h

Anyone else able to shed some light on why this script is failing ?

Thanks in advance

Thanks for the reply.

Unfortunately the script is not installing the boot loader to the volume selected, in my case "Snow"

edit the com.apple.Boot.plist in the MacLoader (EFI partition or a usb-flashdrive).

change arch=i386 to arch=x86_64.

how sure are u that the bootloader is not installed? have u checked the contents of your "Snow" volume?

I'm pretty sure that I set USB Drive as the 1st Boot Device.

To Check, I just plugged in another drive USB I have setup with Cam RC3 and Leopard and it boots ok.

It feels as though the 2_SnowLeoInstaller script is finishing prematurely, normally installing a bootloader takes atleast 5-10 seconds. When I run 2_SnowLeoInstaller its all over in 1-2 seconds.

Any other ideas ?

Correct, No other USB Devices or Drives are connected.

I would like to use your method as it seems like alot of people are having success with SL and getting full component support.

I'm trying your guide to install on a new HP Mini 311 (Nvidia ION).

Before trying your method, I have previously tried restoring SL installer to an external HDD and installing RC3 bootloader and using that method was able to get SL installed.

Our of the box... Ethernet, BT and basic graphics all worked.

So if I can get your method working with DSTS, I think I might have a chance of getting my Broadcom Wi-Fi and ION Graphics working.

Thanks for your help and support, fingers corssed.

Thank you for your reply, but i just to be sure please take a look the screen shot and if this is what i should edit. sorry to bother you again.. Thank you every much. - :)

yup. it should read:

if [ $TIMEOUT ]; then

echo " <string>arch=x86_64 rd=uuid boot-uuid=${UUID}</string>" >> ScriptFiles/com.apple.Boot.plist

echo " <key>Timeout</key>" >> ScriptFiles/com.apple.Boot.plist

echo " <string>$TIMEOUT</string>" >> ScriptFiles/com.apple.Boot.plist

else

echo " <string>arch=x86_64 rd=uuid boot-uuid=${UUID}</string>" >> ScriptFiles/com.apple.Boot.plist

echo " <key>Quiet Boot</key>" >> ScriptFiles/com.apple.Boot.plist

echo " <string>Yes</string>" >> ScriptFiles/com.apple.Boot.plist

fi

echo "</dict>" >> ScriptFiles/com.apple.Boot.plist

echo "</plist>" >> ScriptFiles/com.apple.Boot.plist

pls. take note of those in bold-weight. i noticed that if no Timeout is specified, MacLoader won't automatically load snowleo since needed uuid is not added to the Boot.plist. will just fix this together w/ any other enhancement/s.

in the meantime, pls. specify Timeout.

Heya,

Just finished going through your tutorial word for word and still having the same problem.

The drive that it creates will not boot, while if I install RC3 itself via another method to the same disk, it boots just fine.

Is there any infomation I can supply to help you assist me ?

Thanks !

if this method doesn't work for you, then it might just mean that you're not meant to use it. ^_^

& since you've already found another method that works for you, i'd recommend that you build on it.

good luck.
