isirpaul
I'm thinking to buy that mobo, will it work with Snow Leopard?? I would know it because if there will be problems for retail install then i will go for another brand (evga, but it's pretty expensive or another fully compatible mobo) If you can tell me that will support SL i'll buy it very soon..please.. i'm waiting checks/oks.. calle
I installed snow leopard on my x58-ud5 and everything works except audio (that's due to my lacking skills though, I know some people get audio working). Recently updated to 10.6.1 and things are running just fine. Recently updated to 10.6.1 and things are running just fine. hello followed this tutorial http://lifehacker.com/5351485/how-to-build...start-to-finish and replaced the extra folder with the ones from this post http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=182818 my specs gigabyte EX58-UD4P i7 920 ati 4870 512mb 12gb G-skill ram the system is running great sound, internet and full graphics card support. originally tried installing by just following the lifehacker tutorial but got stuck on the apple logo screen obviously his Kexts etc. in the extra folder are not for a X58 chipset MB. so once i replaced the extra folder with the ones linked above it was so easy to install and run it it wasn't funny a simple drag and drop fixed all my problems. give it a try and you should be up and running too. look forward to seeing how you go Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/183482-gigabyte-x58-ud5-snow-leopard/#findComment-1268246 Share on other sites
isirpaul
Good! I've just bought the ud5! Now i'm waiting for case/ram/psu that have been ordered.. Can't wait! Anyway i would ask you few questions.. 1) my specs are close to Cybex..so his USB image will boot? 2) if not i can follow andy's guide to create my own USB image on a 8gb pendrive, then install with chameleon.. But i saw the DD's guide with his script.. The final result will be the same? His guide is more difficult for me(i'm italian..sadly) have you seen it? He do a lot of steps.. I don't know.. Seems a lot more <personal> (UUID, DSDT etc..) and i want a stable install because i need it for my job.. Would you help me? Sorry for char size i'm Typing from my iPhone.. Thanks in advance sirpaul hello the lifehackers guide the one i posted is the one that worked best for me i've seen and tried all the ones you mentioned and they got me nowhere all you have to do is follow lifehackers guide and when it gets to the last step of putting the EXTRA folder onto the USB drive then use the ones that CYBEX...provides...second link i gave you. as they are for an X58 chipset, my MB is EX58-UD4P but his kexts worked for me, so they should work for you. you really can't get an easier way to do it, naturally you will need a copy of Snow Leopard either on a disc or as a DMG file so you can follow lifehackers guide. there may be better guides and methods out there and maybe Digital_Dreamers guide is better. but at least the links i posted for you will get you installed and in my case have a very stable system. i've updated to 10.6.1 with no issues...everything i have tried works...playing dvd's, installing programs etc. the only thing that doesn't work for me is sleep...but i'm not really worried about that. I have seen a kext for sleepenable so might try putting that in as well.. so give it a try and see how you go and if you have any questions i'll try my best to help. Not sure how u do that did read a couple of articles and it seems a bit of work involved. but as your setting up a new board you can install snow first and then win7 as it will install in AHCI mode...not sure about XP though. make sure your DVD drive is a sata one as it will not show up under AHCI mode. good luck Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/183482-gigabyte-x58-ud5-snow-leopard/#findComment-1272496 Share on other sites

One of my questions was about blue or white sata ports (6 blue - 4 white), I have to know if anything change or not if i plug the drives and the dvd randomly on the ports.. Seems to be that the white's have Jmicron controller for RAID, I don't need it.. maybe the white sata are not fully supported or other things?! JohnFante
Just wanted to share that i got 10.6 running on a gigabyte GA-EX58-UD4P. Followed the guide on lifehacker but replaced the Extra folder with the one for X58. Unfortunately there is still no support for my geforce GTX 275 videocard and my SB X-fi soundcard ... Maby the videocard problem can be solved but as far as I can see there is no plans for support for the soundcard. On another note. Does anybody know if it is possible on the GA-EX58 motherboards to have a HD that use AHCI and two HDs that uses the RAID function on the same time? My primary Ubuntu system and a Windows 7 setup runs om a RAID 0 setup on the IHC10R and I have MAC OS on a seperate HD. A took the RAID setup ofline while I experimented with OS10. Did you try removing it and adding a kext for nvidia cards? either NVinject or EVOenabler i didn't think of it myself at first but after spending the last couple of weeks installing and reinstalling and working out what different kexts do it occured to me. make sure you use kextutility after you remove/insert a new kext so it repairs premissions. lets us know how u go and good luck Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/183482-gigabyte-x58-ud5-snow-leopard/#findComment-1274745 Share on other sites

pkdesign
This worked PERFECTLY! I was trying my darnedest to follow digital dreamers guide but was getting lost. Add to that, I didn't have an Intel Mac to use his scripts made it worse. I would get to the part about installing SL and it wouldn't let me. BUT...following Adam Pash's LifeHacker guide was a breeze. Just do exactly what bbourizk said, just replace the Extras folder with Cybex's and everything worked! Audio and Ethernet...no problems. The only issue I have is that I can't use DVD Player to watch DVDs. I used a Samsung SH-S223B in my build and it sees data disc just fine but when I put in a DVD I get the following: There was an initialization error. A valid video device could not be found for playback. [-70017] Not sure if that is about the DVD drive or my video card? All I had to do to enable QuartzExtreme and Graphics Acceleration was to add the following to my com.apple.boot.plist <key>GraphicsEnabler</key> <string>y</string> and VOILA, full graphics capabilities using my GeForce 7300GT! No need for NVinject or anything in my /Extra/AdditionalExtensions folder. DVDs play great as well as screen savers, chess, and the rest. I couldn't be happier. I've got a fully working MacPro hackintosh for about $800! Anyone want to buy an used EFi-X unit? I replaced the /Extra folder with the one from Cybex. That was all I needed to get SL installed, up and running. Nvidia 7300GT was working but without QE/CI working (no DVD, screen saver etc) To get full video function I followed netkas advice and edited the com.apple.boot.list on my USB Boot disk by adding the string from my previous post (I did not have to add the Ethernet string since it was already working.) That fully enabled QE/CI on the 7300GT! BTW, I bought a 9800GT this weekend and it too works flawlessly. isirpaul
Hi all, finally I have completed my rig!! 920 @ 3.6Ghz - DDR3 @ 1800Mhz.. Overkill Hack Pro!!! No problems with Leopard install.. With SL I had some trouble installing kexts but only with Chameleon 2.0 RC3..just switch to PC-EFI 10.3 and it's all perfect! (only ethernet/audio/video kexts in system, others in /Extra) I followed DD's guide.. His script is so good.. He's the man. I don't know what kind of hardware do you have.. but if you have spec like mine (UD5 & 4870) try installing instead with /Extra and PC-EFI 10.3 method..It's a rock solid bomb! Never had a KP!!! I would suggest you too to do Carbon Copy Images of fresh installs.. If anything goes wrong, just 5 minutes restore and you are!!! I press "enter" and after a second I see a nifty gray screen with a metallic Apple logo...but nothing happens. Just a spinning wheel under the logo. Remember it's to run snow in 64bit there's a kext for the onboard NIC but the 64bit version is buggy (once again the original poster of the guide provides all this info). sound is working when i followed what the guide said (steps below), it didnt work for me open Terminal, type "sudo chmod -vR 755" drag "/Volumes/Snow/System/Library/Extentions/VoodooHDA.kext" into terminal, hit enter. Reduced 88% 1652 x 494 (288.02K) // Reduced 88% 1635 x 463 (108.64K) // now type "chown -vR root:wheel" drag "/Volumes/Snow/System/Library/Extentions/VoodooHDA.kext" into terminal, hit enter again. copy your com.apple.Boot.plist from "Extra" directory to "/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration" so what i did was put the VoodooHDA.kext in S/L/E and then used kext helper to install it. just dragged the kext from S/L/E into kext helper enter my password and press install worked like a charm. if you run into any more troubles ask a question on his thread, he is extremely helpful and knows what he's talking about. good luck Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/183482-gigabyte-x58-ud5-snow-leopard/#findComment-1300032 Share on other sites
isirpaul
So, I'm going crazy with this. I copied the Lifehacker method exactly and replaced the "Extras" folder with the one from Cybex. I set the BIOS just like in the Lifehacker guide. I boot, it loads the Chameleon screen with that crazy green-guy, my USB drive is the only icon in the middle of the screen. I press "enter" and after a second I see a nifty gray screen with a metallic Apple logo...but nothing happens. Just a spinning wheel under the logo. I've done this a few times and am getting a little depressed. Anyone have an idea? EX58-UD5 Core i7 920 6GB OCZ RAM Radeon 4870 512mb WD 675GB 32mg buffer HD Please help, JA try my method.. I have the same set up. Does your LAN work? what about sound? Overclock works with MAc OS? Yes, my 2 LANs works perfectly with the kext provided in the script by DD. Sound too. Overclock doesn't have any effect on configuration, so you can OC as you want.. just better performance Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/183482-gigabyte-x58-ud5-snow-leopard/#findComment-1301090 Share on other sites

richardsim7
hello followed this tutorial http://lifehacker.com/5351485/how-to-build...start-to-finish and replaced the extra folder with the ones from this post http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=182818 my specs gigabyte EX58-UD4P i7 920 ati 4870 512mb 12gb G-skill ram the system is running great sound, internet and full graphics card support. originally tried installing by just following the lifehacker tutorial but got stuck on the apple logo screen obviously his Kexts etc. in the extra folder are not for a X58 chipset MB. so once i replaced the extra folder with the ones linked above it was so easy to install and run it it wasn't funny a simple drag and drop fixed all my problems. give it a try and you should be up and running too. look forward to seeing how you go Thanks!! I got Snow Leopard working However now I can't seem to get QE/CI working on my GTX 260 :\ -Rich- Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/183482-gigabyte-x58-ud5-snow-leopard/#findComment-1307365 Share on other sites
