Hey, I'm back again

Ridgeline, I used your HDA installer and rebooted, audio still doesn't work. However, my 7600 GS card is working fine, and is recognized (NVenabler kext). although the card is working and looking great, I don't seem to have quartz extreme enabled. Every time I try to open iMovie, it tells me it can only run on a quartz extreme card. Any suggestions or help would be great.

to check:

- add a dashboard widget : you see ripples animation , you have QE

- launch frontrow : if it works, you have QE (otherwise app should not start)

you can also try to play chess

Tried VoodooHDA kext, didn't work. I just installed it from your installer and rebooted. Was I supposed to do anything else? I also just purchased a 8400 GS off ebay for $24 new. Good estimate.

Remove the voodoohda and use the applehda installer from ridgel1ne.com you can find it on the downloads page.

Can you tell me kexts are in the /extra/extensions folder. Also did you try repair permissions

I did try repair permissions, but still no go. I have fakesmc, JMicronATA, and NVEnabler 64 in Extra/Extensions. However, I did find the AppleHDA kext installed in System/Library/Extensions. Thanks for your help.

Well you are missing the legacyHDA file from the extras folder. and why are you running the jMicronATA? Did you change your plist as mentioned for the graphics enabler? Okay grab the attached file and drag and drop it into the /Extras/Extensions folder use kext utility just click on it it will open and ask for a password and then will repair both extensions folders permission. reboot and you should have sound. Leave the AppleHDA alone as that is what and where we want it. If sound does not appear to be working right off go to the system preferences and select the internal speakers for output.

with my new installer that step will not be needed but for now it is a required step.

Okay guys update the new post installer is available please check my blog for info and the installer can be found on the download page title installer 2.3 is the one you want.

hi

do you have an advice for a Firewire 800 add on card, because USB2 transfer speed are incredibly low (10-15mb/s max). i've did a little browsing on that problem and mac and usb2 speeds are not good friends :pirate2:

Has anyone had any success running two video cards on this board? I would very much like a three monitor setup, but cannot get OS 10.6.3 to recognize both a PCI-E and a PCI video card. The PCI-E 9400GT runs dual monitors just fine, but I have tried PCI versions of a PNY FX5200 256 MB and a PNY 8400GS 512 MB (with the PCI-E card set to be "primary" video in the BIOS) with no luck. In both cases, System Profiler recognizes that an NVIDIA card is installed, but it does not recognize the amount of memory on the card, or that a display is connected.

As I mentioned in another thread, I read something that suggested Gigabyte boards might need to have the PCI video card set to primary in order for this to work. Whenever I tried this with either PCI card, however, it resulted in the "You need to restart your computer..." gray screen immediately after the wheel stopped spinning on the Apple logo startup page.

Any thoughts or insight would be appreciated. Moving to an ATX board with dual PCI-E x16 slots is not an option, but I at least know it would work. Has anyone tried a second video card in the PCI-E x1 slot?

Have you checked netkas.org or on the irc channel

you get 25-30mb/sec in disk activity monitor with a USB harddrive ?

I never checked but doing transfers they never seemed to be any slower I will check the rate soon

What kind of advice? What to get, what chipset to use, experiences?

FWIW, I have a Sonnet Allegro FW800 card (64-bit card, but working in a 32-bit PCI slot of course) that I have used in my old PowerPC Mac. It's got a TI TSB82AA2 chip on it, and I've never had a problem with it. I see cards with this chip on ebay and google shopping for around 30-35 bucks US, so it's easy to get in PCI or PCIe forms.

You would think one of the 90+ members in the hackint0sh room might have something to suggest, but alas...

I may just grab a cheap PCIe x16-to-x1 converter and try that.

EDIT: Or not, since it's full length and would run into one of the RAM modules, assuming it even cleared the RAM slot. That pretty much shoots down every x1 video card I have found, too. I guess I'll just wait for a breakthrough on an X4500 driver.

I have no sound and I get like 20 FPS on medium settings in Team Fortress 2 with my 9500GT. The performance really sucks. Any tips? Thank you.

I have tried several of your fixes and your new 2.3 installer. No results. I probably have a mess of unnecessary files and kexts. This whole thing is confusing.

best recommendation is for you to do a fresh install and run the 2.3 installer after that we can work on the video thing. I only say this based on I have no clue what you installed and have not installed.

Alright, will do. I'll come back afterwards. Many thanks.

Hi folks,

is there a way to add any SATA port, because 4 is not so much on this mobo..

tks

I have no experience with it myself, but I found at least one card (with an internal and an external port) on Newegg that lists OS X support and would fit in the PCIe x1 slot. Reviews are mixed:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16816124004

There are probably other x1 SATA cards with more internal ports that would work, as long as the chipset is supported.

Has anyone tried a second video card in the PCI-E x1 slot?

Following up on this...even if one did find a video card that would fit in the x1 slot and cleared the RAM slot(s), I just got confirmation from Gigabyte that the x1 slot cannot be used as primary video, and that you need to use PCIe x16 and PCI if you want to run two video cards.

Alright, I'm on a fresh install. I installed the E5200 DSDT and the default stuff in your 2.3 installer. The graphics aren't full-featured yet but sound is working. So, how do I get my resolution up to 1920 x 1080 and my 9500GT working at its optimum levels?

Thanks again. I really appreciate your work and time.

Also, even though there is sound it's not as loud as it should be. I've put the volume on max through everything and the sound produced is so subtle. :\

I'm using Sil3132 based PCI Express 1x cards on two systems, latest drivers are supposed to be 64-bit compatible but on my systems those drivers with 64-bit kernel break sleep. Using 32-bit kernel everything works nice. Cards have 2 Sata ports on them but if that is not enough then it is possible to connect 5-port multipliers on each port. That way it is possible to add up to 10 Sata drives.

A round of applause for MM67 his help on the dsdt for gigabyte boards has been epic and enabled us to get rid of the reboot fix kext in our extras folder for those that are using my installer.

Thanks for posting this. I was about to order one of these cards to give it a try, but now I think I'll save the money and follow Ridgeline's lead, I'm going to use an IDE DVD drive to free up a SATA port.

have you updated to 10.6.3? and did you make sure you are plugged into the correct port for audio out? also as far as your video card did you check into the system preferences to see what resolutions it would currently allow? if only one is available that means graphics enabler is not working for you. did you check the volume control on the speakers themselves?

I ordered a Sony Optiarc Sata DVD drive and a 1TB HDD I personally don't have need for much else.
