[Mini Guide] SL working on Gigabyte G41M-ES2L

Hello, my setup is

GA-G41M-ES2L

E6300 DualCore

2x2 gigs Kingston HyperX

2x WD640AAKS for dual boot SL and Windows 7

I also have a TV tuner card Leadtek PVR3000 and Live 5.1 sound card ( that's all I could get for those 2 PCI slots :( )

I still have to buy a single slot Graphic card ( looking for GT220) and a DWD-RW

I'm really having a headache because of those 2 PCI slots, I can not get any decent graphics ( it's not that I am a gamer or so, but I would have a wider choice for purchasing)!

HELP!

 

I had this almost done. I was able to boot into SL 10.6.4 on the target Hard Drive using the USB memory stick as a boot loader. I got to the step where I installed Ridgline's post installer and it killed the install. The target hard drive boots, and goes through the apple screen with the spinning circle, goes briefly through a black screen, but ends up hung on a blue screen at the end.

 

Any way to fix this?

 

I have:

G31M-ES2L rev. 2.3

E5300

EVGA7600GT

 

My boot drive is an 250GB IDE drive.

Here is a screen capture. This is the last thing that happens before the blue screen of death. :)

Could this be related to the fact that my HD is IDE rather than SATA?

Looks like you are using 64-bit kernel with Geforce 7 series card, I do think that combination is not possible.

try setting everything in 32bit and check from there

set up 32 bit, reboot verbose, look if it goes through

 

if not check if you are dvi connected (vga or dp is tricky) and use a nvinjector that's correct for your card (nvenabler)

you might also activate the 7600 thru OSX86 tools i gues it's possible

 

is this still doesn't work you might try a sata drive indeed (ahci)

are check another best-working graphic like the nvidia 9500GT or 8400GS

There is no need to change graphics cards or reinstall, just boot with 32-bit kernel using arch=i386.

But I am thinking about a new card so that I can run under 64 bit and Amazon has $30 rebates on these EVGA cards so I am wondering if they would be compatible:

I didn't enter -v. I selected "Boot Verbose" from a menu:

Ok, in that case at the same time you see that menu, just start typing.

OK, when the menu came up I just typed

 

arch=i386<enter>

 

Nothing showed on the screen when I did this and the result was the same: blue screen of death. My guess is that the command was not accepted at that location, but I cannot be sure.

 

Well, I'll be damned. The second time it worked. Maybe a typo.

 

Is there a way to make that setting permanent without entering it every time?

THANKS A LOT! That worked perfectly. I take it that when I want to go back to 64 bit, I can just remove that string?

 

I got Ethernet working but the sound still doesn't work. I've read through this thread, but there seems to be a lot of conflicting information about how to get the sound working. Does anyone know the correct configuration for my system?

 

Currently I have ALC662.kext and dsdt.aml that came with it in /Extra/Extensions and after installing I ran kext helper. I also tried running 10.6.2-AppleHDAInstaller.pkg, which also didn't work. I'm afraid to keep trying things at random for fear of breaking the install.

 

Any ideas?

i downloaded and installed the 10.6.2-AppleHDAInstaller.pkg from Ridgeline's site several times but I still have no input or output devices in the sound control panel.

 

Is there another way to get sound working on this board?

Can someone let me know if the GeForce 210 and/or 220 cards are supported yet?

They should work, but honestly, you might have better luck asking in a forum thread that deals with your specific board.

 

You have a G31M-ES2L, this thread is about the G41M-ES2L.

Logic is sound, but unfortunately there can be major differences between boards and even different revisions of a board. I've seen different settings needed depending on the BIOS version used.

 

Anyway, I have seen people claiming to have GT220's and such working under OS 10, so it should work, but there are a lot of variables.
