federico69
Hi All, I just wanted to add my thanks for this AWESOME guide. I got my GA EP45-UD3L working perfect, using the new 5.0 pack and SnowLeo 10.6.2 One difference in my setup to most others on the thread is that I used Netkas packages to get my ATI 4950 working (works perfect BTW). Also the unknown CPU thing (which is very minor) was fixed by using Netkas' PC EFI v10.6 my Q9400 get's displayed as a Quad Core Xeon. BTW: First time I've ever been able to get Sleep to work using my setup, love it! - Fed.

New topics can be created once new users have made 5 posts http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=209505 Ah thanks for clarifying that rule! I joined a long time ago when that "5 post rule" didn't exist. As for installing on an IDE drive, it does work. Make sure to use JMicronATA.kext (the x64 version!) and IDE should work perfectly. I use two IDE DVD drives, and they work fine, given the fact I'm using a 64-bit JMicronATA.kext.

raggedjagged
Hey d00m42! I have a EP45-UD3R, Quad Core, 8GB of RAM and nVidia 9800 gfx card, I had 10.5 installed on it, but now I haven't used it in a while, so I am going to format everything and start from scratch with Snow Leopard 10.6 with your guide. Now I have some questions: 1. Does your guide support upgrading to 10.6.3? 2. Does your installation support using Time Machine? (In case I mess something up in the future and revert back using Time Machine) 3. Does your installation support the newest PC EFI v10.6? If I have another hard drive with Windows 7 on it, will it show up in the boot menu? Thanks a lot for your efforts!

I haven't tested it myself, but I'll give it a go soon. It works perfectly with 10.6.2 (current public version). 2. Time Machine also works perfectly, I actually recently filled up my 500 GB backup drive with TM backups. The recovering works well, and it's saved me on multiple occasions. 3. I use the latest Chameleon, and it's really great. I have a bootcamp menu skin, so when my computer boots, it looks like a regular Mac when I get to the OS choices menu. I have Windows 7 on a different drive, and Chameleon detected it perfectly (and it boots fine). I suggest installing OS X first with ONLY the OS X drive plugged in (leave your windows/other drives unplugged), and then plug everything back in once OS X's boot is full functional. If you use the latest Chameleon, it should detect everything nicely. If you want to use PC EFI, it should work fine as well (although I am not currently using it with my setup). Ah okay, thanks for clarifying!! 2. That's great news! 3. In the article you mentioned that you use PC EFI v10.1, so how do I install the latest Chameleon (with that bootcamp skin ) instead? Also, is there a way to install with your method using a Thumb Drive rather than from the DVD? Because it will help make installation much faster! I did follow nullspot's USB Installation Guide, but in his second step, he says that you have to install Chameleon (via the PC EFI 10.1 app) into that "Install" drive.. but how do I install Chameleon if I don't have an existing OS X installation? Can you install it from Windows or something? PS. Is this install for 64Bit or 32bit? I'd like to get 64bit Kernel, etc if it won't be a problem, but otherwise no problems! Thanks for your time! Sorry for the delay, I've been quite busy lately! As for Chameleon (and all other files), you can use my SL Pack v5.0b, which there's a link to a few pages back. I'll try to reupload it and edit in a new link here so it's easier to find, because for some reason I can't make changes to the OP without it giving me errors. You can't use the Chameleon .app package to install from windows, but there may be a different way to do it with terminal. I can look into this, but I suggest you find a friend who has a Mac to use (or somehow get your hands on one temporarily) because once you create the install USB, you don't have to worry about it anymore. It will be 64-bit unless you specify the 32-bit kernel at startup. I'm running 64-bit and it's great! (Sorry, I thought there was a chance that you might have not noticed my post, my bad ). Oh, so you need an existing OSX installation for the first time! Thanks for clarifying. Can I follow your guide with the 10.6 image on a usb flash drive? Thanks for letting me know that it can run in 64bit mode, because in your guide you mentioned that you gotta boot with -x32 option.. and you didnt specify that we can boot in 64bit mode.. so it got me wondering, hehe. Also three more questions and one problem (Sorry I have questions after questions >.<): 1. In the guide you say that CPU Virtualization should be disabled in the BIOS, but what if I need it for running Parallels or VMWare, can I enable it? And can any of the other mentioned features be enabled for a smoother system? Or really have to be disabled? I won't be overclocking. Thanks! 2. I downloaded your SL Pack v5.0b, but the Chameleon Installer says "Release Candidate 2".. is this just a label issue? Is it actually Release Candidate 4 inside the pkg? I ask this because you have no PlatformUUID.kext included in your /E/E folder, so it made me wonder. 3. EFIStudio doesn't have my card listed nVidia 9800GTX+ (1GB RAM).. so what do I do? 4. I'm using EP45-UD3R rev1.1 motherboard (With F12 firmware) What is the best DSDT for this board? Is Swavek's DSDT for the rev1.1 board? Do the revision and firmware versions matter? And now my problem: I just tried to make the USB install partition as per nullspot's guide, but when I boot from the USB flashdrive, I get this error when I select the Install partition: What's going on? What did I do wrong? Help!
xopher
Hi again! Long time since I've been here, heheh. Well to my dilemma. I'd like to know, if you guys have working SPDIF-out? I'm planning om buying something that would require that, and the 5.1 would be welcomed as well. The System Profiler shows my SPDIF as follows: S/P-DIF Out: Connection: Combo With the same for In as well. What does this mean? Thanks in advance! You know, plugging headphones makes audio source switch automagically? If so, or heck, anyway, could you post your audio config, DSDT + kext? LouCioccio
Finally got this to work. I bought the EP45UD3R last august 09 never power it up till I got all the parts. Only to find out the BIOS were either corrupted or were never flashed. Continual reboot no Bios screen just turn on turn off with those internal leds flashing. Removed everything except the CPU still there. Got an RMA from Gigabyte. I don't know if its the other hack I have but creating bootable USB flash drive 16GB took horrendously long up to ten hours only to get kernel panics after the install. Kernel Panics caused by ME not following your guide. Finally tried a to make a USB 40GB hard drive in the same and it works and only took 15 minutes. I have success BUT not sure about the AML file as I am using yours. I have QE enabled but had to use an EFI from the other hack that had the correct drivers. Now I have the translucent menu bar. What I have: Intel Quad 9400 2.66 4 GB Ram (2-2GB sticks DDR2 Hynix) 1- 500 GB WD Sata 1-Super Write Master SATA DVD-writer 650 Watt power Supply I have not tried to up date the OS as of yet. Has been stable for an hour. I did run Kext utility several times when changing files. Also in single user mode fsck and also Disk Utility repair permissions. You really deserve a lot of credit and to you and your buddies that have made this work. It really has been a learning experience. I appreciate the feedback! I looked at the time I left the last message 2PM EST and just came back from dinner left the computer on (7:40PM EST) so it been 5 hours looks good. Dumb question where would I find the modified sleepenabler? In fact I never leave my G5 asleep at all; just the displays. Again thank you and all those that have contributed for this to be successful. LouCioccio
Sleep has worked flawlessly, outstanding. Started loading software that I use and it works especially for those that have been wondering about Adobe products. CS4 extended, PSE8, Apple's FCE HD 4, Roxio Toast 10, Open Office,Transmit and Topaz Adjust, Noise Ninja, and Neat Image have loaded and run. I have not used iTunes as I use it on the G5 and have not transferred it to the new box yet. I checked system info from the Help menu of CS4 Extended. *************************************************** Adobe Photoshop Version: 11.0.1 (11.0.1x20090216 [20090216.r.522 2009/02/16:17:00:00 cutoff; r branch]) Operating System: Mac OS 10.6.2 System architecture: Intel CPU Family:6, Model:23, Stepping:10 with MMX, SSE Integer, SSE FP, SSE2 Physical processor count: 4 Processor speed: 2600 MHz Video Card Vendor: NVIDIA Corporation Video Card Renderer: NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GTS OpenGL Engine OpenGL Drawing: Enabled. Right now I am using Migration for the other Intel box a DG35EC that I used sliptees tutorial and that is taking user data from the wife's G4 so she'll be pleasantly surprised. As for "malformed kernel", I wouldn't expect to see a message that talks about kernel modifications when you (should) be using the original Vanilla Kernel apple provides. Are you using an EFI partition for your Chameleon/kexts? Remember to never modify /S/L/E unless absolutely necessary, as this makes updating easier (just use System Update). A Mac should see that same information with the same specs, but you can always modify how the operating system sees hardware specs (ex. the System Profiler info) by using a "smbios.plist" file in your /Extra folder. I'm switching to Snow Leopard because the new Quicktime 7.6 causes my computer to crash and haven't been able to resolve the issue. I need QT 7.6 to run Final Cut Studio 3. LouCioccio
I am using Final Cut Express 4.01 works fine. I just finished burning CD with Toast 10 verified okay. I have not done it with Finder but since it worked with Toast thats fine. Just like Doom42 said cs4 works fine as I batched 32 psd files to jpegs and then uploaded them with iphoto to a web gallery for the relatives to download and print.
