+0.05v on MCH (or the closest setting, upped mine to 1.16v)

up the ram voltage to +0.1v (recommended for gigabyte board) with two modules or +0.2v with four

I was at 1.8v upped it to 2.0v

Well what ram are you running ? 1.8v for ram these days is quite low. Most ram cannot barely post at 1.8v, but I don't know your ram. I am thinking you are not running stable with all sticks is because there is just no possible way your ram could be stable at such a low voltage...

Another question.

Users are talking about F11 etc, I assume that is the Bios version ? Sorry I am not familiar with the board yet as I don't even have one working ;) What is a known bios number that comes stock and what bios is known to be the most stable ?

corsair XMS2:

CM2X2048-6400C5DHX

it is rated to be 1.8v , 5-5-5-18

so far it's been running well at 2.0v

but our (myslef and swavek) problem is very random, we both had the experience of running stable for almost a month, then the problem would come back for no apparent reasons...

I believe restarting more often will trigger the unstability, I was usually sleeping the computer

but even without restarting the system would become unstable, usually the first sign in my case is firefox crashing (but twice I had the computer reboot without warning)

then to be sure it is THE problem I run mprime, if stable I get no error (at least not within a minute), if unstable I get an error within 2seconds, then if I let it run, sometime it will just reboot the computer or KP

then after that I did boot in ubuntu ran mprime and same unstability problem, so I knew it wasn't OSX, usually powering off the PSU for 30sec would fix the problem for few days or even few weeks, then it would come back

but I never had the setting I posted above, so I hope now it is stable, but I can't confirm it for at least a month...

it's so random...

yes, F11 is the latest bios version

as far as I know they are all stable, so I'd go with the latest just to get few seconds off boot time, detection is much faster with F11

however with F11 you have to enable legacy USB keyboard, otherwise keyboard won't work in memtest or chameleon, it will work in osx of course whatever your bios setting is...

supposedly F9 has a flaw... but I ran with it for few month without problems (besides my stability problem that swavek is also experiencing, he tried in F6 with the same issue so our problem has nothing to do with the bios, it's most likely just a lack of voltage...I hope)

Hi, will this guide work also for gigabyte ep454-ds4?

thanks

Yes, except maybe for some kext and dsdt tutorial will be slightly different

you can definilty go through it, you will get to the point of having osx running very well, but maybe no sound (maybe a little harder to get, but you'll eventually get it), maybe no network (very easy fix), besides that the guide will be perfect for you

don't update to 10.6.2 without updating sleep enabler... just go to netkas' website to get the new one

I am having trouble downloading the bios. I go to my board and when I go to download it's an executable.... I just want the bios file ?? what the heck

it's a zip exe you need windows

I didn't realize you have a UD3P

so anything I told you is irrelevant for you, it's only applicable for the UD3R

7z SFX archive.. Those bas... hahaah

I have VM so no worries there.

When downloading it does not tell you the version. You also have 3 different downloads to choose from. I chose the first one!

EDIT:

oh it says FA FB and FC

I got the latest date one

F9a for GA-EP45-UD3P is very stable(signed as beta) contains Ahci bios v 1.20 that speeds up a lot boot process. No kernel panic either on snow leopard with 10.6.2.

Eliade, I removed 2x2GB modules last friday and my system is finally stable. With 4 x 2GB modules with default settings i'd KP after a few days.

What's funny, is when I removed the 2 x 2GB modules Sleep started to work! When i was using 4x2GB modules, I'd put the system in sleep and tap the mouse/kb and the system would do a full reboot.

d00m, if i remember, you were having the same problem with sleep, run a memtest and see what happens. When I ran a memtest if got an error and removed the modules...

I used the utility below, it looks like a nice package you can run in OSX.

try the setting I posted earlier today

with two modules to set the settings...

+0.02v on ram

+0.05 on mch

manually input latency settings to the default ones

and run the ram at 667Mhz

reboot

then add the other two modules

do a memtest for 5mins, I'd usually get errors within 2mins if there's a stability issue

if you get no error, try if you computer sleep and wake fine

if all is well then do a full memtest when you have time to do it

I didn't realize 2x4GB is very expensive

around $250

I had my 4x2GB for $120

edit:

overall price of ram increased, the same 4x2gb kit is almost $200 now

(or maybe had a great offer without knowing it)

found some ocz for 209 on amazon, I think I'm gonna go with that

christmas and DDR3 makes DDR2 Ram prices higher I think

personally i had bad experience with ocz reaper HPC on ud3r board (no post at all)

set you mem latency setting manually to the rams default, mine is 5-5-5-18

drop your ram down to 667Mhz

+0.05v on MCH (or the closest setting, upped mine to 1.16v)

up the ram voltage to +0.1v (recommended for gigabyte board) with two modules or +0.2v with four

I was at 1.8v upped it to 2.0v

I use two sets of Corsair Dominator 8500C5, recommended voltage is 2.1(I use 2.14 -> bios shows 2.096) I did tried lots of different settings but interesting, I never went lower with MCH than 1.2

So according to your suggestions I am going to try with MCH 1.16, RAM 2.14, timings 5.5.5.18, divider 2.0D (800Mhz - mem rated speed is 1066 for God sake!)

btw using memtest 4.0

fingers crossed..

Is anybody here actually runs 8Gigs (4x2 or 2x4) successfully on this board ? (for over a month:)

(for over a month:)

LOL

I'm also using memtest 4

I decided not to go with new ram (not yet)

but thanks for the ocz warning

==========

For future reference

after restoring using Time Machine

you'll need to reinstall combo update even if you have the latest version

the most noticeable issue in my case is quick look not working properly

a known issue after a 10.6.2 TM restore

the fix is combo update

then your Private folder will probably be visible

if you want to hide it as it should be, use the following command

"sudo chflags hidden /private"

Hi sorry to bother you this is my first post.... I have the EP45T-UD3LR and the BIOS on the Gigabyte site goes to Beta F6 do I use that one and can I go straight to it or do I have to work up through the F1,2,3,4,5?

Cheers

Anybody having trouble getting automatic sleep working? I can manually put it to sleep but auto sleep only turns off the monitor and nothing else. I have 10.6.2 on a ud3r with a q9550 and a GTX260. I'm using the DSDT file from the pack with fake smc 2.5. I have tried all the bios settings for suspend, C2 & 4 states and eist as well. I've also enabled and disabled every extension in the extras folder. Everything is working except for auto sleep!

Anybody have a clue?

It's especially frustrating when I installed a copy of 10.6 on another drive and that sleeps well before the 10.6.2 update, now it does not!

Anybody having trouble getting automatic sleep working? ...

Autosleep never worked for me too.

EDIT:

for those who have TSST DVD Drive and autosleep problem (like me) have a look here, and nice workaround here

I have problem with ARDAgent generating lots of errors crashing constantly, restarting itself, trying to solve that for last week with no success, also Remote Desktop stopped working.

Anybody can help with that ?

cheers

Edit:

ARDAgent problem solved

Thanks for the sympathy. I stayed up late last night and found a workaround. I read in another tread about someone with the same problem. Someone suggested to them that an application or a process was keeping the mac from sleeping then they had a link to an application called PleaseSleep. It solved all my problems! I now have a fully functioning Hackintosh!

Nope same KP

Any other idea's ?

Alternatively could I use the other method on the first post and install using my mini and an external drive.. possibly

did you add both "-x32" and "arch=i386" (both without quotes only sperated by a space, notice the second one has no "-" (minus), that's very important) to your com.apple.boot.plist

that will prbably do it, depending on the boot file you are using if you have both flag you'll be sure to boot in 32bit

(even though I was able to install in 64bit mode, I only had -x32 which wasn't recognised by the boot file I was using, ie chameleon rc3 boot file...)

then you can also try without any extra kext, just the bare minimum:

fakesmc, disabler, openhalrestart

( and jmicronata only if you have an ide device)

I would really try to install via usb method, it's a lot less head ache once the install is done ...

only when you are really desperate try the other one, and even if you get that other method to be running I'd still try to get the installer to boot with the usb method... and reinstall it again...
