Thanks for the detailed guide! I installed snow leopard on my ga-ep45-ud3p, it runs well now!

GA-EP45-UD3P + Q8200 + SATA HDs + 9600GSO 384Mb

Didn't use the purple gigabyte sata & ide, such that I disabled "On-board SATA/IDE Control" in bios. Also disabled the on-board LANs since I don't have LAN in my home.

I think for UD3P, it is safe to use OP's DSDT.aml. At least that is what I did, plus the fact that I disabled LAN in bios. Since these two motherboards are almost the same.

For graphics card, in EFIStudio I choose the latest one, 9800gt 512mb. It works well for my 9600GSO.

For the first four times of booting, I got KP. Don't know why. But each time, the KP occurs later than the previous one during booting. 1st one occurred at the end of the "welcome words popping", 2nd one occurred at "recognizing my keyboard", 3rd one occurred at "just get to the desktop", 4th one occurred at "after get to the desktop when I tried to disable the Spotlight indexing". After that, the system is stabled.

Between 3rd and 4th time of KP, I unplug my 1TB SATA HD for win7, only leave the 80GB SATA HD for snow leopard.

After the 4th KP, the system runs default with 1024*768. I then change the sound output to speaker to make the sound working. Rebuild the kextcache and reboot. When I get back, it is then 1280*1024, great! Then I enable back the spotlight indexing, hot-plug back my 1TB SATA....

Everything is fine, sleep and recover very fast! Nothing bad happen after couple hours of using.

For networking, I use RTL8185 wireless in my machine. Which is "$%^&^%&*&!(@" for Leopard and/or SL! Can't find any solution/driver for it. I placed an order for Linksys WMP54GS-RM (Should be Re-Manufacture, Ver 1.1, BCM4318 chipset). This one should be fine for both Windows 7 x64 and Snow Leopard. Hope I get the card soon.......

Thanks again OP!

I don't need Disabler (nullcpupowermanagment) because i'm in the middle of inserting ssdt tables to the dsdt for vanilla speedstep

could you post a link to that fix, I'm very interested...

thanks

however how will you monitor that speedstep is actually working right

in Leo I was using MSRtools, but it didn't work for me in SnowLeo (32 or 64bit)

Any success on UD3LR? with d00m's method? I see the ethernet card on PEX5, add the device(LAN)... as per dsdt tutorial, an etherenet card shows up on the profiler, but in system prefs, it gets " a self-assigned IP address and cannot connect to the net"

Any dsdt from UD3LR would be helpfull!

Thank you!

Eliade: Would it be asking too much for you to describe how you created your new dsdt file in Win7 (I have a Win7 disk, so I don't need VM Fusion instructions)?

Please? You'd be my BFF. :(

download the patcher from there: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=142434

beta 5 worked for me

unzip and run ACPIPatcher.exe

keep the Bios tab

load you bios

select a desination

check "generate dsdt.aml"

in the right hand section

General tab:

keep them all select, click the fix button, select them all, except maybe the mute fix (since our mute works fine)

Network tab:

select lan0

and fix GP9

might as well use "the time machine fix"

Hardware location for ep45-ud3r should be "PEX" "4", double check that using ioregisteryexplorer in th SL pack, search for ethernet, and you should see PEX and a number, which should be 4 as I said, if not use whatever number is dislayed

under graphic:

I wasn't sure which nVCAP to select (since there are three dual dvi option)

the efi string works well for me, so I didn't use any graphic fix in the dsdt, so just leave it untouched

Audio:

did that manually using d00m's fix in his pack

the 889a fix in this patcher is different from (if you do use it check fix hdef), d00m, since d00m's worked very well for me I used d00m's fix...

then click the PatchBIOS button

every red x should turn into a green check-mark...

a dsdt will be generated (discard the bios patch),

copy it to mac os and decompile it using "iasl me" (in SL pack)

then use doom's fixes manually:

-don't fix the dgpt, the patcher did it for you

-don't fix LAN, the patcher did it for you

-don't fix GP9 (end of page 12 of current guide)

-don't fix the "Return (Package (0x02) {0x00,0x00})" (very end of page 5 of current d00m guide)

-fix the RTC (changing the 0x04 into a 0x02)

-fix Sound anyway (if you fixed the sound with the patcher, you don't have to replace azal into hdef)

-and in my case I had to change under the usb's the "One" in to a "0x03" for wake by mouse/keyboard to work (not in d00m's tutorial, found that fix myself by comparing d00m's dsdt with mine)

and ehci fix for usb sleep

I think that's it

try a manual IP

cause usually when partially working you may have ethernet show up in system pref but won't get to the point of even getting a self assigned ip... just says disconnected

strange indeed

Snow Leo 10.6.1 works great, did a simple softtware update

my Q6600 now running at 3.6Ghz (2.4 is stock speed), 7814 in geekbentch 32bit

started running mprime, didn't fail... but then temperature reaching max safe temp after 1min, so I canceled mprime... it idles at 48°C

all I need is a better CPU cooler, anybody wouldn't have an extra one for me by chance :happymac:

edit:

now down to a safe and stable 3.2Ghz (geekbentch 6800)

I am wondering the same thing!

to boot in 32bit by default just add

arch=i386

to your com.apple.boot.plist in the Kernel Flag section between the <string></string>

In Chameleon RC3 this doesn't work like it is supposed to. I've found that to get it to boot into 32 bit you must edit your com.apple.boot.plist like you said, BUT you must also do "something" on the Chameleon boot screen (it doesn't seem to matter what... hit any button on your keyboard, select your drive, and hit Boot). Otherwise it will ignore the com.apple.boot.plist in your /Extra folder and instead read the vanilla com.apple.boot.plist. I guess you could always put the kernel flag there, though.

in the com.apple.boot.plist in /extra or library/preferences... etc ?

I am using Chameleon from this guides package.

thanks a lot ;)

Thanks for the detailed answers JFLNYC and WinstonAce!

And I'm really looking forward to this! Please keep us posted! Still no KP btw, I think I'm out of the rough at last! Yeah! Now my only problem is iTunes refusing to start, has something to do with my Library I guess. (fixed by re-importing my library.)

Just to let everyone know I updated to 10.6.1 through Software Update and it was very smooth : )

No /S/L/E hacking for me, all vanilla ;)

there is CPU-I that work well with SL 32bit

CPU-I is awesome, but it's only x86... what x64 programs are there?

to keep my system clean I extracted the kext from the package (using pacifist) and put it into the extra/extensions folder, reboot and it worked

A quick question about vanilla DSDT/SSDT Speedstep:

The SSDT-files you need, are they only motherboard specific? (could I use eg. WinstonAce's SSDT-files, cause he has the same board and BIOS atm?) and when you've got it working, could you post a quick guide on how to do it?

Also, when/if getting the SSDT file, does it matter if you've got C2/C4 states disabled in BIOS?

Now I need to get some sleep, see you tomorrow!

Unfortunately for me, 10.6.1 broke my hack. After the install and reboot, the system came all the way back to the login screen (which displayed very briefly), but then I get a blue screen and the spinner.

I installed with your guide, because the hardware is close (GA P35-DS3R, which has ICH9R, 889A, 8111), and a Nvidia 8800GT video card.

Any advice on debugging? I can't find other mentions of this particular problem... am I alone?

Can you get past the login screen in safe mode (boot flag -x)?

It could be a corrupted loginwindow.app, this happened to me a while ago when I mis-edited a strings file to fix my About This Mac screen.

To Eliade, do you think it would be possible to install Snow on a P4 Northwood (SSE2 lol) if I use the Voodoo 9.5.0 kernel?

Would it be better to just use Leopard?

Safe mode didn't work, nor did booting in 32-bit mode. Hmm, I'm stumped

Actually, to double-check, how does one get to the boot prompt with Chameleon?

I'm just assuming that choosing "Ignore Caches" corresponds to safe made, but I guess I'm not 100% sure.

I can't get sound to work...I got 10.6.1 installed successfully and all I need is sound... I can get around the sound using a USB sound card... I have a GA-P35-DS3L (Gigabyte). Thanks!

Edit: I got video working (switched to 32-bit)...Just need audio and my drives. Thx!

Edit 2: Fixed the drive issue too. Goto Finder -> Preferences, click "Hard Drives" under General. - removed old info that is not needed now!

with a leo kernel, I really would use it on Leo

Leo is still a wonderful system, that I would use over any windows...

I think that using RC2 with the RC3 boot file that boots snow leopard IS using RC3.

I'm currently running 10.5.8 not S/L and using Chameleon RC2 as my Bootloader. Don't want to get off topic but I want my 10.5.8 to be running perfect (or near perfect) before updating to Snow.

It appears that Firewire on my UD3P is running at 400 and I get the secure mode error on boot.

Thanks to this thread I've patched my DSDT to fix the USB device removal error on waking from sleep.

I'm currently working on how to get ethernet running without R1000 kext. I want to get as close to vanilla as possible.

So anyone, on the Firewire secure mode, is it still a problem in SL? And does anyone know of a fix for 10.5.8?

Eliade: Would it be asking too much for you to describe how you created your new dsdt file in Win7 (I have a Win7 disk, so I don't need VM Fusion instructions)?

Great news! I got my sound outputs working in F11! :D I reinstalled SL yet again, but that didn't work. I followed the dsdt guide d00m has so generously provided (which is invaluable, btw), but that didn't work. Then, almost out of desperation, I used the HDEF hack provided in DSDTSE, which has slightly different settings for the HDEF section and, lo and behold, it worked!

So now everything is working perfectly in F11: Sound, graphics, ethernet, Bonjour, etc. The only thing I still can't figure out is why Geekbench crashes on startup.

For those of you who haven't tried DSDTSE, it's a great supplement to the guide d00m provided (as I can attest to). You can download it here:DSDTSE

DSDTSE made it possible for me to patch my DSDT!
