0mie
Start troubleshooting. Check your logs, check whether one of the kexts unloaded. BTW, you can use AppleHDA on this laptop with any version of 10.6: 10.6, 10.6.1 thru 10.6.3. Provided that you just follow the instructions in post #1. I recommend this over voodoohda as the voodoo code isn't setting the max gain appropriately. And obviously that beta version of voodoohda is way less tested than the official driver from apple. Honestly, I'm new to all this...I can run Mac basically up and down, but hackintosh and everything needed to check things, I'm worthless. I wouldn't even know where to start =/ lol

I wouldn't even know where to start =/ lol This forum has newbie threads you probably should spend a while reading. Failing that, Apple has docs on kexts which go over troubleshooting kext loading, but those aren't written with an end-user focus. Knowing how to use shell commands from the terminal application is a prerequisite to just about any troubleshooting. If you're not interested in learning such things it probably doesn't make sense to try and set up a hackintosh, without at least a more technical friend to provide personal tech support. +eCHO+
I just need audio and I'll be set, I can't for the LIFE of me get it to work I think I've exhausted all my options, step by step anyone? Maybe stupid proof =/ lol My DVD drives works one boot and not another, what might be the issue there? Also I've noticed if a DVD is left inside and I eject it works every time, but if there is nothing there the DVD won't even load inside 0_o seems odd to me. As to your DVD drive problems, sounds like the exact problem I was having with my drive at first. Check here and see if that helps. It solved mine and a few other's problems. I don't know what you don't know so I don't know what to tell you.You don't submit anything resembling a bug report so I can't do more than guess what problems you're having, which would be rather time consuming on my part. I don't even know what version of OSX you're running for example. You say you've tried everything, if that's true then I guess there is nothing more that can be done. I didn't tell you to not try a hackintosh, though I'm getting the impression you should have bought a macbook.
RanoVA1916
That doesn't work for me =/ when I pfix -s and ask for my password I can't type anything =/ Any other way to get this to work? I am sooooo close, yet sooooo far. When OSX is loading I hear sound and can adjust volume and as soon as everything is done booting, the volume is greyed out and doesn't work anymore Elevate your user session in terminal; type "sudo -s" -> type your password and then type pfix. If this dosen't work out for you mabye there is a permissions issue you need to work out. Try osx86tool, its a little outdated but noob friendly like myself. There is a fix permissions button that should fix things on that end, I still use osx86tools to enable/disable quartz extream.

Now that you have 10.6.3 installed you really should install myhack 1.0.1 or pc_efi 10.6 to the osx partition, you can download an installer after the jump http://tonymacx86.blogspot.com/2010/02/pc-...pported-by.html Be free of the earthly bonds of disk media. Just keep the 123 bood cd asside just in case. Once you run either installer copy the "extra" folder files from the boot cd to your extra folder on your osx partition. 0mie
I think I may just install 10.6.3 again and see if I can get everything to work that way, I can't get audio to work after using osx86tools. I may be missing something =/ Also the quartz thing, I get this stupid error: Or maybe I can just delete all the old /E/E folder and remove the /S/L/E kext that I installed and that might fix the issues? MrKalah
Just a post about disks benchmarks and the esata port / A14 bios update. I used xbench to test two identical harddrives (disk tests only), one in the laptop, and the other one in a power-esata enclosure. Results vary a lot, so I ran 5 times each test and kept the average one. I don't think xbench is relevant with testing drives and especially ssds, but at least I could notice that there wasn't a huge difference between the internal and external sata interface. Do you know other disk benchmark I could try? bcc9
there wasn't a huge difference between the internal and external sata interface.Your results show almost a 2X difference between sequential read speeds. The two sata ports should perform the same, but it looks like your external port must have negotiated 1.5gbps, thus causing a bottleneck for a high speed disk. (See hardware->Serial-ATA->your second mcp79 port->negotiated link speed. If you can get your esata port to run at 3.0gbps without locking up during I/O consider yourself very lucky. You should be pretty unhappy with the results you're getting - the esata port is wasting the read performance of the SSD disk. Basically you've reproduced what mac users were widely complaining about on the macbook (with its internal sata port). I'm not up on the benchmarking programs, I just use dd or hdparm -t from linux to time sequential reads.
evensong
bcc9, do you think you could post something about getting VoodooHDA working with the 1340? I would love to get HDMI audio working on this, as I can't even get HDMI audio to work correctly on Windows 7 with the 256.x or the 19x drivers (only 18x drivers work). Only the most recent version of slice's version of VoodooHDA (version 2.62) supports our audio codec properly, and the support thread is in Russian and the build is marked "experimental". The main english thread is: http://www.projectosx.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=355 Given that, to beta test VoodooHDA: 1. Download: The "experimental" version of voodoohda, version 2.62: http://www.projectosx.com/forum/index.php?...ost&id=1732 Prefpane for snow leopard: http://www.projectosx.com/forum/index.php?...post&id=482 2. Backup/move /System/Library/Extensions/AppleHDA.kext out of the way 3. Install VoodooHDA.kext into /System/Library/Extensions (Use a kext helper application such as kexthelper if you don't know how to set the ownership&permissions yourself.) 4. Click on VoodooHDA.prefPane to install it 5. In the VoodooHDA preference panel, drag the PCM control to 100% to get proper speaker volume I haven't tried out HDMI audio yet though it does show up as an output device so that looks promising. Also I wouldn't call AppleHDA a hack, it is the genuine apple software. The more we can leverage the well tested apple software instead of unsupported hackintosh drivers the better, IMO. If you really want to run freebsd based drivers (like voodoohda) maybe you'd be better off with freebsd or linux

All things is work except audio, battery status. audio: delete AppleHDA.kext (because will be kernel panic) and install latest VoodooHDA.kext - works much better. battery: replace AppleACPIPlatform.kext by this one: Do not forget to recreate mkext with Kext Utility or you'll receive kernel panic. bcc9
I've updated my AppleACPIPlatform package in post #1 to support 10.6.4. New version is version 1.2. As with 10.6.3, reinstall this package after upgrading to 10.6.4 in order to automatically apply my AppleACPIPlatform patch. Also AppleHDA works in 10.6.4 just like 10.6.3, you just need to patch it with the codecid as with 10.6.3. Here's a patched version Update 11/12/10: You should now just use my patch-hda program to patch AppleHDA on the fly. See post #1.

Okay I had a look into the files, I tried to compare your AppleHDA binaries for 10.6.3 & 10.6.4 but I really don't have a clue about what you are modifying in them. Are you just changing references in the clear text part of the binary? EDIT: I have found this on http://www.projectosx.com/ "A temporary fix is to use old fashion way: binhack that HDA binary.so open AppleHDA binary in a hex editor, and search for 8508ec10 (apple alc885) in my case I needed support for ALC888 so I just replaced all 8508ec10 with 8808ec10, and now works..." I guess this is what you are doing right? In AppleHDA, I'm modifying the two places (4 in total since the FAT binary has two architectures) where the binary has a set of instructions that are checking a whitelist of codecids. These modified locations are compare instructions in the middle of code, not some clear text section of the binary. You can see with cmp that the extent of the changes are just one instruction at these 4 locations. It would be worth disassembling the binary yourself if you want to understand better. This change is generic, applicable to all the codecs (including alc888) that worked with AppleHDA before 10.6.3. Describing this as a "temporary fix" is not correct, as I have seen no information about any other way to fix AppleHDA. Rather it's a "necessary change" to continue to use AppleHDA with codecs other than those that are found in Apple shipping products.
