SPLITER
Hi, I have just installed SL 6.2 on my Dell Studio XPS 13. Unfortunately, I am running into problems. Without booting from the boot cd provided in the first post, I cannot get my audio to work. I understand that I must install kexts but I do not know which ones. Additionally, I have read that the wireless does not work either... is there a fix now? or do I have to buy a wireless usb adaptor? Thank you! shooters
I just installed SL and staying at 10.6 for now. I used the boot CD from bcc 9 (thank you sir)and a retail SL DVD. Just swap the CD for the DVD and run your install. After the install finishes the only issues I have are Power/Battery, Bluetooth, and WIFI. Using bcc9's guide to install the ACPI package and bluetooth package and then the battery kext, all is well with the exception of wifi. My 1340 has the Dell 1520 card. I have access to plenty of laptops and so far I have only found one other card that fits, Intel 5100. That also does not work. I will come back with more info after i update to 10.6.3, but for now i want a fully operation 10.6 to backup. If anyone has any info that would help me with my wifi eith the Dell1520 or Intel5100 let me know. Side note. This system is running dual boot with Win7 and GPT disk. Pretty simple to do. shooters
Forgot I had ad old Dell DW1490 Wifi card from the last hack build. The only thing is that it was the full size not half. So installed it in the WWAN slot and it was detected and fully functional. I remembered this a day after I ordered a DW1510 from Dell. n
kazuni
Update: I've updated my bios to A14, using the A14's DSDT.aml. installed IDT v4, and it seems to work at dmesg http://img11.imageshack.us/img11/8027/img0034yr.jpg But the unit's now stuck at this screen, won't go into desktop. I have not modified anything but just installed chameleon, copied the com.apple.boot.plist from the boot132 cd and modified it so that it has -v -arch=i386 and that it points to the A14's DSDT.aml. Update: after a lot of struggle I've finally cured part of my problems: it boots into 10.6.3 no problem; audio is still missing. bluetooth works, everything works except audio! can someone zip up a 10.6.3 kext for AppleHDA for me? thanks! wtcnbrwndo4u
So, I'm not exactly sure what's gone wrong, but now I can't get the computer to go to sleep. If I shut the lid or manually choose to sleep, the screen shuts off immediately, but all the touch buttons and keyboard are still lit and the fan is still running. Nothing wakes the computer back, only way to fix it is to force shutdown the computer by holding the power button. Any ideas? I've attempted to reinstall the AppleACPIPlatform package, but the installation never succeeds.

siriuxs
Ok, It's all functionally but in System Profiles the cpu isn't recognized. Why? And another problem is abuot the life of battery. With windows the battery runs for 3 or more hours, while with snow leopard runs for 1 hour... Why ?

bcc9
And another problem is abuot the life of battery. With windows the battery runs for 3 or more hours, while with snow leopard runs for 1 hour... Why ?Start by checking your what cpu frequency your processor is running at. Probably you had the CPU pegged at the max multiplier in your 1 hour case.
wargle
Hi, I'm not able to boot any more after updating to 10.6.3 I looked for the kernel panic logs in /Library/Logs but i couldn't find any folder containing it. I should have been patient for a proper update from you guys before proceeding further. Specs- Studio xps 1340 with A14 bios.

bcc9
Could any one post a solution please? I don't know why you assume anybody else has any idea about the problem you're having that nobody else has mentioned. You didn't post any concrete details so really there is nothing for anyone else to even comment on. You should probably should think in terms of what did you do that was different from everyone else - what did you do different than in post #1. Then do some troubleshooting. evensong
I am trying to boot with your prebuilt boot132 iso and it is giving me a "cannot find mach_kernel" error when trying to load the SL disc. Any ideas how to fix this?
wargle
Hi, I made a big mistake of renaming the applehda fix that bcc9 posted into applehda.kext and then replacing it in /system/extensions/ and then I realized my mistake afterwards. Could some one give me a suggestion?
lennyG
Start by checking your what cpu frequency your processor is running at. Probably you had the CPU pegged at the max multiplier in your 1 hour case. How can I check the frequency? And How can I change the multiplier? I think I have the same problem, too.
bcc9
How can I check the frequency? Use voodoomonitor to check your cpu frequency/multiplier (cpu-x claims to report this info as well but in actuality it will just show the frequency pegged at the max value unless you're using voodoopower or the equivalent to manage frequencies. However you should not use voodoopower as native power management should be working on this system). Note also that voodoomonitor will mis-report the p-states; my version of pstatechanger is much better for checking those things. But here again, you won't want to leave pstatechanger running as it wastes cpu with polling. And How can I change the multiplier? I think I have the same problem, too.The system should handle stepping for you automatically.

Thank you, bcc9 I was able to see the cpu frequency changing. but its range was very limited, only varying between two multipliers, 6.0 and 10.0. Is this what you're saying about mis-report? Then I'm going to assume that my bad battery performance come from 9500m's another GPU which is always on. Hoping that someday we can turn it off. You didn't say what cpu you have, but 6x to 10x is probably correct. No, the vid voltage values in the p-state table are wrong with voodoomonitor, and it mis-reports states with multipliers less than 6x. Maybe something like http://codykrieger.com/gfxCardStatus/ would turn off the 9500m.

brockraum
So I installed 10.6 installed all needed kexts, all worked besides WiFi. Updated to 10.6.3 and started getting kernel panic errors on boot rebooted using an older version of Chameleon and updated the appleHDA.kext for 10.6.3 that bcc9 provided, now I can't seem to get audio to work again.... anyone else having troubles with this or am I alone on this one?
