one of them is "snow leopard sse2 sse3 made by hazard" and the other one:SnowOSX_Universal_10.6(432)GM_v3.5

the first one stuck "waiting for root disk" and the second restarting right after the boot also right after the -v mode , i've tried a lot of combination -v cpus=1 biosration=20 ...and more flags that i've read here..

With 10.5.x, most pre-packed distros failed on this laptop as they did not include nvidia sata drivers. Sounds like things have not improved with 10.6.x pre-packed distros. I recommend you instead use a vanilla 10.6 dvd and follow post #1.

I can't seem to downgrade my DVD Drive firmware. It's showing up as a TSSTcorpDVD+-RW TS-D633ADW40 in Windows 7. The drive refuses to accept any lower firmwares I am not sure what firmware it was on when I got it but I know the drive has never worked in snow leopard unless i have a disk in when its booting and even then its very sketchy and won't burn anything and barely reads. If there is no disk in it it doesn't even work in OSX given that its higher than any other firmwares listed on here I am betting its never going to work but any input would be appreciated.

I was able to install snow leopard to my 1340 successfully with bcc9's instructions. Thank you bcc9!

one weird thing is that i cannot use chameleon RC4.

With RC3, everything is working perfect except waking up from deep sleep. So, I've tried install RC4, then stuck in the first line of booting process. It seems that reading sleepimage fails. RC5 prerelease showed the same symptom for me.

Any suggestions? I have WIN7, OSX, FAT32 disk for data on a GPT disk.

I've been using chameleon RC4 since it came out, no problems here. Sleep&resume work; no error messages concerning sleepimage.

Another question.

Actually, I've tested with various installation packages and modifications of Chameleon for the wake from deep sleep (hibernation).

With the particular installation package ( http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=192852 ), I was able to make it wake up from deep sleep on 1330 with 10.5.x.

So I tried with 1340 with SL, but I had to reinstall SL later since trackpad and keyboard didn't work at all even after copying VoodooPS2Controller.kext again. (Instead, there were strange 3 files copied into Extra/Extensions, which were related to keyboard and trackpad, I've deleted these files and updated Extensions.mkext too)

Although keyboard and trackpad didn't work at the time, I was able to get 1340 wake up from deep sleep USING BOOT CD, even with normal Chameleon RC4. interesting, huh?

I realized other old version of chameleon installation package (RC2) causes same problem (generating three unwanted files in Extra/Extensions instead of VoodooPS2Controller.kext)

So, the question is...

we use modified VoodooPS2Controller.kext. Instead of that, is there any way to use different files like three weird files above? or do you have any idea about why it cause this problem?

Update: Turns out there is a simple patch to allow MBR based installs via boot132 to work under 10.6. The old OSInstall.mpkg patch doesn't work when you boot off of a boot132 disk, but there is now a tiny patch to the OSInstall binary itself which accomplishes the same thing. Diamondsw posted the patched version here

Replace the version in /Volumes/Mac OS X Install DVD/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/Install.framework/Frameworks/OSInstall.framework/Versions/A/OSInstall (on your snow leopard dvd or usb/flash based install drive).

I just tried it and it worked for me.

Hi, I can't download that file that Diamondsw posted. It just redirects me to the homepage of rapidshare.com

Any chance you can upload it or repost it somewhere

Wow, there should really be a sticky on this site for vanilla 10.6 MBR installs by now. Guess not. I've updated post #1 with a different copy of the same file.

bcc9, you are awesome, much appreciated

before I embark on this install, couple of questions from a newb...

I have 10.5.8 installed (dual boot to 7) and working with chameleon 2.0, sound, quartz extreme, and voodoopower are working from your previous post.

First, it is worth it to upgrade to 10.6.2?

What is the best way to go about it? clean install (if possible) or upgrade? most of what I read online was to install it as USB with an existing leopard install, but it always state to make sure the USB partition is a GUID partition table...I want dual boot, should I change it to MBR and replace the OSInstall in USB image OR should I leave it at GUID and replace the OSInstall file in USB image

How to boot back into 10.5.8 if I mess up? I can't make a time machine backup for some reason b/c it won't let me boot into osx for some reason?!?

10.6.3 seems to break some things. Battery meter isn't reporting and the sound is messed up.

Hold off for a while.

Same here. I just upgraded a few minutes ago, and I am without Sound, Mic In, or Battery Status.

Booting using -f -v, I see that a number of Sound Assertion errors take place immediately before the Finder comes up, and VoodooBattery does not seem to load.

Briefly, my Trackpad was also out of commission; that is, until I -f -v'd with my Boot-132, which seemed to get it to load properly.

I'm guessing that this comes up as a matter of VoodooBattery and DSDT?

I've updated my AppleACPIPlatform patching package in post #1.

The updated version adds support for 10.6.3. You need to re-run this patcher after you upgrade to 10.6.3, else you won't have working battery, ac or lid state.

The new version is called AppleACPIPlatform.1340.v1.1.pkg

I've only tested the patch in 32 bit mode so far, but the 64 bit patch should work as well.

I patched AppleACPIPlatform by method of bcc9 (patched without using patch in post#1, don't know how it works in bcc9 new patch but I think all will work in 64-bit also).

I had been noticed with AppleHDA.kext was changed and old audio method doesn't work. Any ideas with using new AppleHDA?

update:

all work exept audio now.

I confim it works on 64-bits. For the sound, I have restored the old AppleHDA.kext in /System/Library/Extensions and I had my sound back.

I restored it back too, but anyway better to use new kext I think. I just don't understand what they changed in new version.

ACPI patch works great for 32 bit. I tried to boot into 64 bit, but couldn't even with -f. Sound is working again by replacing the AppleHDA.kext in /System/Library/Extensions with the 10.6.2 version.

For those newbies, there is a link in the comments of netkas' 10.6.3 post to a nice little script to do it for you.

As always, thanks bcc9.

I got it working in 10.6. I partition the USB as MBR, restore the snow install from dmg, added the modified OSInstall (had to use terminal), used bcc9's boot up cd to boot into the USB, installation went without problems. Here are some of the "hick-ups" I ran into, so maybe other newbs might be interested in it.

*I accidentally forgot to format the HD before installing (can do it with disk util during installation), so it seems like it just upgraded the previous installation. This failed horribly since it would try to load the old kext that were working with 10.5.8 when I didn't use the boot cd. So I reinstalled it again so I wouldn't have to worry about the old kexts.

*I also installed chameleon 2.0 afterwards and nothing would load (both osx and win7). I had to restore my windows 7 partition from the disc, I usually use cmd to set the window 7 partition as active, but this did not work. I had to let the disk automatically restore it. Once I did that I was able to use EasyBCD to choose mac or windows. Although, now that I think about it, I should be able to let Chameleon load up first and choose windows or OSX...

*To install kext, I used bcc9's mthod of placing everything in the Extra\Extensions folder and running his commands. I, however, had to fix the permission by going into terminal to chmod -R 755 and chown -R 0:0 each kext before it would let me run his commands. I dont know what the standard procedure for installing kext is, since I couldn't find an app for it. Well, the last app I used on 10.5.8 put it in panic on reboot, so I was a little skeptical...

*I haven't upgraded to 10.6.2 or 10.6.3 yet. 10.6.2 sounds like it would be safe to do, but 10.6.3 I might wait on

following bcc9's post, everything seems to work well so far - I was suprise it could do two finger scroll. The only problem is after sleep, which seems like a common problem, keyboard and sound are sporadicly working when it comes on after sleep.

thanks to all the people that worked on this to get it working, especially bcc9, you've been a big help

A good program for "installing" kexts is a program aptly called kext utility. You can get it here. The only thing to remember with it is, when making a kext cache, be sure to delete the existing Extensions.mkext before re-running kext utility. It's as easy as draggin your Extensions folder to the Kext Utility icon.

Boom.

Hope this helps.

10.6.2 works fine, but I want to know how use 10.6.3 with our legacy kext.

Anyone tried flashing the BIOS with A14 version (3/29/2010)?
I tried it today, and so far I have not noticed any difference in functionality. There are some differences in the DSDT between A11 and A14. But those differences seem to only be about graphics/lid/lcd devices.

To avoid mismatched dsdt & bios, here is a new patched dsdt that is based upon the a14 bios.

Same patches as for a11.

Update: a14 dsdt moved to post #1

The A14 version add the e-sata drives detection in the bios. That means we can finally boot up a system with an external sata drive plugged in this port.

I have tested it and the dtcection works, you have to activate a new function though: "ESATA GEN 1" or something like that.
