rameshb_v
Hmmn..Finally was able to install SL using Universal 3.6. The problem was due to the additional recovery and system partitions. I got rid of all those extra partitions and now only have 2 partitions for WIN7 & MACOS SL. I applied all the kexts & fixes listed by bcc9... Many thanks... My sleep function does not work properly. It goes to sleep but does not wake up.. Is this a known problem ? Any fixes ?

It goes to sleep but does not wake up.. Is this a known problem ? Any fixes ? I think the problem is that you're using some unsupported repack of OSX instead of simply using the boot132+retail disk solution recommended in post #1. In an earlier post you mentioned using NullCPUPM from that repack even though post #1 explicitly indicates that you don't need such kexts. From prior tests&reports, I believe that kext is sabotaging your sleep behavior. If you still want to use a repack, recommend you ask the repack authors for support instead of asking here. willpower101
So off the technical topic for a minute. Besides the support for 8gb of ddr3 ram what benefits would I see of getting this laptop over a 13.3 inch macbook? it looks like either could be had on ebay for around 800$ +/-. If I get a macbook, it's going to work out of the box and then I can throw win7 bootcamp or vmware fusion on it. If I get this I have to do an awful lot of configuration before I can get osx running on it. Is it really worth the trouble? (I have a hackintosh quad core desktop at home that's a nice hack but a hell of a beast to maintain anytime something breaks.)

(I have a hackintosh quad core desktop at home that's a nice hack but a hell of a beast to maintain anytime something breaks.) Here's the hardware benefits of the 1340 vs a macbook that I listed last march: "Its hardware is superior to the macbook in I/O ports (has ESATA, expresscard, firewire, hdmi, standard displayport). Not to mention cost effective options: SSD drives (1/2 price of apple), 4GB memory standard, and so on." At this late stage in the product life cycle I would wait for ultraportable laptops with mobile core i5. Nvidia's sata controller implementation has proved buggy in both apple and dell implementations. Not a big surprise as nvidia had a long history of sata controller problems. That said if you truly need an OSX machine you should buy a mac, not depend upon unsupported experimental mods.
willpower101
i don't really need an osx machine. I use both at home, a primary quad core hack and a primary dell m1210 win7. I just like access to both. One of the biggest things i noticed is that the sd card slot isn't working? Is there really no simple fix for this? I ask because I use the sd card slot on my m1210 ALL the time

After a long day of experimentation, I was able to create a bootable USB from a retail Snow Leopard disc; essentially you have to load chameleon onto the USB stick so the installer is bootable. My only issue now is that the default installation doesn't support the built in keyboard and trackpad of my Studio XPS 1340. Is there any way to modify the kexts that the installer uses? Without a keyboard or trackpad I can't proceed through the installer (stuck at 'choose language'). Since one of my USB ports is occupied by the installer stick, am I to plug/unplug keyboard or mouse as needed throughout the installer? Ideally I'd like to be able to have my USB installer stick with some working keyboard drivers for the installer.

Once you install Chameleon onto the USB and make it bootable, it should contain the /Extra folder. Place the keyboard/mouse kexts from bcc9's initial post in the /Extra/Extensions folder, make a .mkext, and the installer will load these kexts at boot. Just guessing, but the most likely case is your kext cache was malformed, which seems to often be from doing something other than exactly what is in post #1. Vors
Hi, I just installed from a different boot cd than the one provided because I kept getting the error 'cannot find mach_kernel' even after pressing F5, the boot cd would not update the screen to reflect the disc in the drive. Everything installed then I used the post 1 boot cd to boot the os, which worked. I had sound but no wireless (10.6) After installing chameleon rc4 and the kexts from the disc, (also edited boot plist and mkdir /Extra to put in the DSD... file) I reboot, and have no sound, no wireless, no battery indicator and no bluetooth... here is my kernel.log Mar 3 22:37:29 localhost kernel[0]: npvhash=4095 Mar 3 22:37:29 localhost kernel[0]: PAE enabled Mar 3 22:37:29 localhost kernel[0]: 64 bit mode enabled Mar 3 22:37:29 localhost kernel[0]: Darwin Kernel Version 10.2.0: Tue Nov 3 10:37:10 PST 2009; root:xnu-1486.2.11~1/RELEASE_I386 Mar 3 22:37:29 localhost kernel[0]: vm_page_bootstrap: 706172 free pages and 14724 wired pages Mar 3 22:37:29 localhost kernel[0]: standard timeslicing quantum is 10000 us Mar 3 22:37:29 localhost kernel[0]: mig_table_max_displ = 73 Mar 3 22:37:29 localhost kernel[0]: AppleACPICPU: ProcessorId=0 LocalApicId=0 Enabled Mar 3 22:37:29 localhost kernel[0]: AppleACPICPU: ProcessorId=1 LocalApicId=1 Enabled Mar 3 22:37:29 localhost kernel[0]: calling mpo_policy_init for Quarantine Mar 3 22:37:29 localhost kernel[0]: Security policy loaded: Quarantine policy (Quarantine) Mar 3 22:37:29 localhost kernel[0]: calling mpo_policy_init for Sandbox Mar 3 22:37:29 localhost kernel[0]: Security policy loaded: Seatbelt sandbox policy (Sandbox) Mar 3 22:37:29 localhost kernel[0]: calling mpo_policy_init for TMSafetyNet Mar 3 22:37:29 localhost kernel[0]: Security policy loaded: Safety net for Time Machine (TMSafetyNet) Mar 3 22:37:29 localhost kernel[0]: Copyright (c) 1982, 1986, 1989, 1991, 1993 Mar 3 22:37:29 localhost kernel[0]: The Regents of the University of California. lennyG
I was able to install snow leopard to my 1340 successfully with bcc9's instructions. Thank you bcc9! one weird thing is that i cannot use chameleon RC4. With RC3, everything is working perfect except waking up from deep sleep. So, I've tried install RC4, then stuck in the first line of booting process. It seems that reading sleepimage fails. RC5 prerelease showed the same symptom for me. Any suggestions? +eCHO+
Is anyone else having issues with the DVD drive on startup? I've tried 10.6 - 10.6.2 and am having the same results. On startup, if there is a CD/DVD in the drive, OSX boots up fine and and I'm able to swap discs around no problem. However, if I start up OSX without a disc in the drive, the drive will not work at all in OSX. Odd thing, though, is that System Profiler hangs if I select the Disc Burning field, though the Serial-ATA tab reports the drive no problems (TS-D663A connected to a MCP79 ACHI port). Any help would be appreciated.

+eCHO+
Thanks for the reply, bcc9. The TS-D633A is a Samsung drive, though I can't see why that would matter to the ATAPI driver. I guess I'll look at the IOAHCISerialATAPI kext and see if I can figure out something there. In the meantime, what brand is your drive? Would that be a Hitachi, by chance? Again, thanks for the reply.
