First I want to thank BCC9 and the team that have worked so hard to make it all work. I have been following the forum for the last month and have successfully been running Chameleon 2 RC3 dual booting OSX and Win7 on a GPT partition. All the supporting Kext files are in the EFI partition because I liked the idea of keeping it separate from OSX. Everything works except for those known not to work. Thank you Thank you.

After I installed Chameleon 2 RC4 (I just copied the boot file, made no changes to the com.apple.boot.plist file), I checked "About this Mac" and it lists the processor as 2 GHz Unknown. I have a P8700 Duo Core 2 2.53 GHz. What am I missing?

List of Kext

AppleACPIPS2Nub.kext

DellBluetoothHCI.kext

VoodooBattery.kext

VoodooPS2Controller.Kext

Thanks.

<key>SMBIOSdefaults</key>

<string>No</string>

This obviously prevents chameleon from auto-setting smbios attributes for you such as the CPU type and frequency, etc.

General comment, since this is becoming a recurring problem:

If you do something different than what I recommend in post #1, such as using someone else's guide, and then things don't work as well as I advertise in post #1, you might want to first suspect there's a problem with those other things you've done.

Point well taken. I ran into a problem earlier and trashed my com.apple.boot.plist (trying to fix some problems). Could not find an example on this site, so I started with the 132boot-1340 CD and constructed my own. You are correct that I had gone to other sites to get help, part of learning. I understand that you cant be holding peoples hands through this process, the pay is lousy and you have a real life to live. Best Regards, hopefully I will be a help to this forum not a dead weight.

PS

Your correction to setting the SMBIOS String to Yes, solved the problem. Thank you

hi everyone....

i just read this post on projectosx.... guy saying that he got 9200m gs working on his hp notebook.... last i checked this post the problem was Black Screen after injecting for 9200m gs... neways i dont have os x installed right now for myself to try... so if neone wants to try it... here is the post!!

-------------------------------------------

------ !!! SOLVED !!! ------

Installed NVEnabler_0.1.kext, got rid of the other nvinject kexts and BANG dualscreen :help:

I think a HUGE thank you is in order to the dev's of NVEnabler_0.1.kext :help:

------ !!! SOLVED !!! ------

Hi all,

After a week of reading, trying, getting errors and swearing. I just had to ask here for help.

I'm trying to get some dual-screen action on my laptop and Samsung Syncmaster.

It's a:

HP Dv5-1150 ED

nVidia 9200m GS, 256 MB

4 gigs of memory

And so on.

Got everything working just fine, even Qe/Ci is working perfect. But no dual-screen support so far.

So did some searching and lots of reading, and found out i had to dump my videocard bios and run it through NVCAP_Maker. So prepared a USB stick to boot DOS, copied nvflash.exe on there along with cwsdpmi.exe.

But it didn't dump. Tried 4 different versions of Nvflash but no luck. Keep ending up with a dump of 0 bytes.

It also gives an error, version: invalid. And with older versions of nvflash I get errors but it gives a ID, EEPROM ID=20,00f.

Can't seem to find other people with this problem.

Really hope someone here can help me out. Or somebody with the exact same card can share his/her nvcap i can try.

Greetings, Byte

k guys, i had 10.5 running for a while until i tried using the 10.6 audio drivers to fix the mute headphone issues but i got a kernal panic so i kinda gave up on osx for a while. Ive now decided to try 10.6 now but i am confused about how to compile the actual usb stick so i boot of it. Ive downloaded the vanilla osx, and ive used transmac to edit the image so i have the hacked version of osinstall to allow mbr booting. I am confused though on how to get the kexts such as the keyboard and the fakesmc onto the stick. I've created a folder called extra and put the texts in extra/extensions, so is this right? and also transmac wont let me burn the image to the stick so does this mean i need to go to a mac to burn the .dmg or is there another way to do this on a pc system.

Use a Mac for prep work-makes it a lot simpler. Just follow Bcc9's (thank you bcc9) install procedures on 1st post. I sorta deviated from his instructions on my first attempt and it got so screwed up.

what i did (mileage may vary): 1. burn iso boot 132 to disc 2. prep snow dmg and replaced osinstall for multiboot setup. 3. f12 to boot132 dvd and selected usb (snow) 4. disk utility before install to partition under osx guid and vista data 5. install and reboot using 132 again to finish install 6. Compile kexts, install Extra folder to osx volume 7. installed packages and ran kext utility 8. Installed Chameleon RC4. 9. Updated to 10.6.2 and edited bootplist to 64bit, wireless working.

10. I finished up by installing vista. Reformat target volume to ntfs under advanced options to proceed.

ah thanks all you guys i got it up and running last night. I ended up editing the image on transmac and burning on an actual mac and after playing with my bootloaders last night i got it. I lost my windows 7 installation, but i it was all backed up so it was a quick fix. but yeh thanks bcc9 and everyone else who has worked on this project!

i was able to triple boot this set up with ubuntu 9.01. If you guys are interested it was very easy i did a standard install but installed grub to the ubuntu partition. This way chameleon can pick it up at boot time. I personally have easybcd first then i boot that into chameleon. But i think easybcd is unneeded and i will eventually get rid of it and put it straight into chameleon

I have been triple booting with Ubuntu 9.10 as well. Sometimes after using Ubuntu, I get a BSOD when I boot my Win7 setup. Ever experienced this problem? By the way, I use Chameleon RC4.

Hmm, I've never had this problem myself. I have my windows partition as my active partition so it goes straight into that and then i have easybcd that can go into chameleon. This is because i use windows the most and this way i can bypass chameleon. I remember a while ago i would have trouble when i switched from osx or ubuntu or even a boot disk by just rebooting. I think if i remember correctly it would always hang when i got to the windows boot screen. So maybe when switching os's turn the computer right off instead of rebooting?

Yeah, I need to shut it down for some reason. If I reboot into Windows from Ubuntu, I get a BSOD. It doesn't happen for any other combination such as OS X into Windows. Wonder what the reason could be.

I am not too keen on installing so many bootloaders. I already have Chameleon RC4 and Grub2. Don't want to pile it on with EasyBCD as well. Guess I will just live with the quirk.

Is there something that I'm doing wrong? I got a new hdd from Dell because my last one was faulty so it's currently on a MBR partition table. I shrunk the size of my main partition and successfully installed 10.6, installed all the kexts/Chameleon BL 2 RC4. Using the fdisk -e /dev/rdisk0 commands, I flagged the correct partition as active and still, all I see when I reboot is "boot0: done"

How good would this guide be for a dual boot os x 10.6 + win7?

Also, any news on the mic in? If I use an external sound card I guess it would work right? (firewire sound card)

I'm still considering this vs macbook pro 13... Considering the 500$ difference before taxes here in canada for the same specs (or 100$ difference but you get {censored} specs with the smaller mbp) ... It's hard to not consider the studio xps 13.... The only remaining question is that apple is probably updating their hardware in a few weeks... if I wait maybe the macbook pro 13 would be more interesting with lower price, better specs, etc.

The guide is not meant to cover multibooting in general, as there are a so many different ways you might want to set that up, and the details really have nothing to do with this model of laptop. In general just multibooting those 2 OSes is basically trivial as chameleon can chain load windows.

The internal mic still works. I haven't heard any news on the external mic jack.

If you want a laptop whose sole purpose is OSX then I'd say buy it from apple like an honest consumer. I'm sure apple will have a refresh this year, as they'll fall further behind in price/performance if they don't, but it looks like all the PC vendors are geared up to ship refreshed 2010 notebooks before apple.

Makes a lot of sense....

I won't buy the macbook pro 13 unless they upgrade it very soon, by either upgrading the specs or lowering the price they are definitely too expensive... and I'm not that desperate on os x, I use both win7 and os x.

I'm pretty sure apple will upgrade their macbook pro line soon anyway.

And with the new cpu... I guess the studio xps 13 will get upgraded too... that probably means this guide won't work anymore but if both the xps line and mbp line get upgraded, I guess os x will run on i3 and/or i5.

Um, used the ACPIPS2Nub.kext and Voodoo2PS2Controller.kext and no trackpad is being detected.

I can see that the VoodooPS2Trackpad.kext is not loading via kextstat.

-Tried in /Extra/Extensions & /System/Library/Extensions

-Yes cleared kext cache

-Yes chmod 755 and chown root:wheel on both kext

Help?

Also VoodooBattery.kext keeps unchecking the show icon checkbox automatically after a second. Shows that it can't read battery from ACPI again. Tried with and without VoodooPower.kext. (didn't think it was necessary)

Help?

Why is your ACPIPowerPlatform.patch 0k after unpacked?

Can you please upload a zip with your currently working ACPIPowerPlatform, ACPIPS2Nub.kext, VoodooPS2Controller.kext, and VoodooPS2Trackpad if its not a VoodooPS2Controller.kext plugin?

Who else has updated the firmware to A11 and does it break anything on 10.6.2?

hi guys...i did a standalone installation with SL universal 3.6 -> 10.6.2 ...runs not that bad but looks like the CPU speedstepping and the nvidia card isnt working :/

btw i added bbc's boot files and the cpu kext + voodobatterie(which comes up but says no battery available :-( )

does the 123 version come with special nvidia kext files?

-----------------

Do i have to use an EFI-String to get the 9400 working?

I'm too busy right now to help you troubleshoot your problem. My voodoops2 kext posted here is the same one as I posted over at voodooprojects, which has 1500 downloads and it seems nobody is having problems like you are.

a11 bios came out 4 months ago and is well tested at this point. Works for me...

Why is your ACPIPowerPlatform.patch 0k after unpacked?
My ACPI fix is a binary patch applied via the package install script, and so there's no need to include any actual ACPI binaries as you get those from Apple.

Thanks for this great guide. I managed to install SL and updated to 10.6.2 with most of the features working with no problem. But, I do have a problem now though. I installed Window 7 and when it rebooted itself as part of the installation near the end I got a "Disk Error" message and I wasn't able to boot SL or Window 7 at all. I had to use the Boot132 CD to boot back into SL. While I was back in SL, I erased the Window 7 partition to see if that'd fix it. Now I got a "Non-System Disk" message. I can only boot back to SL with Boot132 CD. Does anyone have this problem before?

UPDATE: I installed Window 7 again in the second partition and it worked this time. But now my system boots straight into Window 7 with no option to select OSX. Anyone has a clue how to fix this?

UPATE: I've found a solution and I'm able to dual-boot now.

Here: post #6

Would it matter if the install was to an external USB drive? Also, any idea why the show power meter option keeps unchecking itself?

Is there anyway to get feedback from you modified VoodooPS2TrackPad.kext plugin when it doesn't load? As a side note, VoodooPS2Controller.kext and the PS2Keyboard,kext plugin are loading and give me the ability to use my keyboard.

I'v even done several reinstalls of the OS, including just leaving it at 10.6, and same issues.

*UPDATE*

Don't know why I couldn't add it manually, but running "Kext Utility v2.4.2

Either a permissions issue or cache rebuild issue.

bcc9,

I get a warning sometimes (not all) at POST from the BIOS (V. A11) stating the defaults have been restored. F1 to continue, F2 to setup, etc. I use the posted DSDT.aml on Page 9 and the latest fakesmc.kext.

Any ideas?

what kind of warning do u get?...can u maybe post a screenshot ?

is this a dellSystem-warning or an operationSystem-warning while the bootup is running?

I get the same warning. It's a Dell BIOS warning, that says the CMOS has reset or something. It only happens after running in Mac OS X though. So I'm figuring its a result of some sort of interaction between OS X and the BIOS?
