Thanks for your reply.. Actually I've just downloaded almost 200MB of the 10.6.3 (happy to have slow internet here.. :D )

But, could you please explain more about the use of a re-pack of OSX?

Re-packs of OSX (e.g. iPC livedvd, kalyway) have historically removed some components in order to fit onto a single layer dvd+/-r. Some of the components that seems to be a favorite to remove are the nvidia chipset drivers, as most hackintosh users have intel/amd chipset systems. Without the nvidia chipset drivers, you have no nvidia SATA controller, and so your internal drives (and esata drives) would not appear.

Basically I can't recommend or support the use of any re-packs, there's no way for me to know for sure what is going wrong when you have problems.

This may or may not be your problem, I can only guess as you didn't send any debug details such as output from booting with -v.

If you start with a complete "gold" release of 10.6 (vers 10a432) or the newer 10.6.3 release then you should be able to install like everyone else.

Then, I replace the two files

The instructions in post #1 were to just replace OSInstall

I think OSInstall.mpkg only comes into play if you're installing from an already running system, not when you're installing from a boot cd.

The instructions were written before 10.6.3, they surely work with a genuine original 10.6 DVD, and an MBR partitioned disk.

Not seeing the disk at all suggests a more fundamental problem than the partitioning strategy, such as the use of a bad re-pack of OSX.

Ultra-mybad I was thinking about Leopard not snow leopard! lol, sorry =( Meh im rusty hadnt posted in a while!

Cheers

Just upgraded to 10.6.4, sound wasn't working initially. But after patching the AppleHDA with the version posted by BCC9, everything is back to normal. Thanks again Bcc9 - you're awesome!

Newbie here sorry for the dumb question. But how do you patch the AppleHDA file??? Can someone explain? I have everthing running except for the sound. I been trying out everything on this thread starting from thread 1 to 38.

Please help. Been trying for days and no luck on the sound. Can someone please write a step by step on getting the sound to work. Please help.

Anyone notice that firewire doesn't work after resume from hibernate? Unlike resume from suspend, there are no "FireWire GUID 0000000000000000 is invalid!" errors but it still doesn't work. Anyone found a fix?

same here. ricoh sucks.

//update about audio.

Vodoohda is finally works well with our codec. version 272 with 64-bit panel. All works really perfect, no random kernel panics and etc as previous. I recommend to use it.

I have some questions about hdmi, because I can't test it.

Since there are now multiple versions of the ricoh flash card driver, I wonder if anyone has found a version that works with this hardware, and maybe it happens to fix the resume behavior of the firewire at the same time.

As for voodoohda, version 272 still does cause panics, and errors at boot time, but the panics are not very frequent. The panics seem to happen after using audio under a different OS, and then rebooting into osx. hdmi continues to not work, but it seems like it should. If someone would like to put some effort into troubleshooting it probably could be fixed.

bcc9, can you update your acpiplatform patcher for the latest 10.6.5 update? And is there working 64bit battery kext yet? The one in the first post does not show battery status if booted in 64bit mode. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Has anyone gotten sound working for 10.6.5?

After updating, and running olegpronin's ACPI fix (incredibly grateful, btw), it would appear that while the 10.6.4 AppleHDA is being recognized by the system during verbose boot, the speakers are still the only holdup; they are not showing up in Output Devices.

Thanks in advance. =)

the voodoosdhc 64bit kext doesn't work, system hangs on card insertion ... but I don't know that this driver has been updated in a while.

Where do you see the newer kexts and I'll test some out?

My firewire works after resume from hibernate. Although, is there anyway to verify that it IS actually hibernating and not just sleeping?

My pmset hibernatemode is set to 1 - anyone heard of macs set to hibernate but only sleeping instead?

acpiplatform 10.6.5 patched for our laptop.

Ha, beat me to it again. Now if I could just get you to update the package installer script instead, I wouldn't have to do anything :(

I've commented the script even :)

I have now updated the AppleACPIPlatform package in post #1 to support this. New version is AppleACPIPlatform.1340.v1.3.pkg

after 10.6.5, restart/shutdown/sleep not working anymore. I did patched appleacpiplatform.next using bcc9's automatic patcher. AppleHDA also not working. Tried to replace with old 10.6.4 one, but no success. Anyone having the same issue? Any help would be appreciated. I do have hdaidt.kext, openhaltrestart.kext,etc.

P.S. People, all thanks for fix of ACPIPlatform to bcc9 - it's his work, not mine. I just found how he changed it and did it manually :)

I still have a question about atheros 9280 for long long time...

I still didn't fix it.

I've written a program to patch the codec in AppleHDA for this laptop's IDT codec automatically.

See patch_hda.zip in post #1.

This will fix your audio with 10.6.5 if you use AppleHDA.

The script also works for 10.6.3, 10.6.4; so now there is no longer a need to share hacked AppleHDA binaries directly.

Are you sure? I have voodoobattery 1.2.1, and it is a fat binary including x86_64 support.

Looks like all of superhai's old projects are now abandonware, plus he took the extra-creepy step of pulling the packages that had been shared. Anyone know of a new maintainer I can link to for post #1?

There's 5 or more different kexts in this thread:

I have trouble with the broken English, so it's hard to tell which versions supposedly fix or break what...

Are you sure it's working, I cannot do a firewire camcorder capture after resume from hibernate.

When you hibernate, the system shuts off completely - no blinking lights. Hibernate takes much longer than suspend as you'll see 5+ seconds of disk i/o as memory is written to /private/var/vm/sleepimage. Resume from suspend only works with chameleon rc5 based boot loaders, and there is a resume screen that you see as the disk is read back into memory. Should be real obvious when it's happening.

Restart&shutdown continue to work for me with 10.6.5. Try with a working applehda.

I currently use hibernate not sleep (which is working fine btw), but sleep never triggers automatically with applehda as applehda still logs "kTypePinComplex != fType" assertion messages.

No, no. I seriously would be fine if someone went ahead and updated the acpi package with the new addresses when a new release comes out. Just so long as nobody tries to sell or solicit donations for such an effort. You know as some unsavory types try to with other projects (like the well known iphone projects for example).

Hmmm, no, my xps doesn't seem to be hibernating then, its only in suspend. I have the latest chameleon rc5 from your previous post. hibernatemode is set to 1. any thoughts?

Hello, bcc9, thanks for your quick reply. Now i've got another problem. My snow leopard installation is corrupted. when booted , it says failed to read boot sector from bios device 100h, etc. I guess I need to repair the boot sector on the partition. should I just do "dd if=boot1h of=/dev/rdisk0s1"? If not, how can I make my installation boot again?

Well that's the right command (assuming you've got the partition # right) to restore the 2nd stage boot loader, if it got wiped. Mine is wiped every time I use diskutility to erase a partition, which I do to make a back up copy of the boot partition, before any OS upgrade.

diskutility also seems to move the active flag to the most recently formatted partition, so you may simply need to move the active flag back to where it should be to fix your situation.

Check your logs at shutdown time, and make sure you rebooted after changing hibernatemode before trying to use the new setting.

bcc9, i want to set up multiboot for windows 7, ubuntu and mac OS x Snow leopard using GPT/MBR hybird scheme. Do you have any experience of doing that? Thank you for your reply

I'm booting from both kinds of disk (GPT and MBR) on my 1340 right now, and am booting windows 7, fedora, osx. I have no experience with ubuntu, but I believe it complicates the situation by using the under-documented grub2.

Multibooting deserves a whole separate thread as the details depend upon personal preferences and setups.

Perhaps post in a multiboot thread and point me at it if you really want my personal opinions.

So I managed to set it onto hibernatemode (was using secure virtual memory) but found that it didn't work. It wouldn't resume from hibernate, saying something about "not enough disc space" which is nonsense.

bcc9: are you using secure virtual memory when you hibernate successfully (pmset mode 5) or just the usual (pmset mode 1)?

Alright, I need a little help.

After upgrading to 10.6.5, it was necessary for me (in terms of keeping up with my workload) to get my sound back; as a result, I switched temporarily to VoodooHDA.

It's been working just fine, but in the process of listening to my recordings, I am getting high pitched scratching sounds out of my speakers/headphones, which I never got wit AppleHDA. So I'd prefer to change back now that the patch is available.

The unfortunate thing is that while the uninstall process works smoothly, the only backup AppleHDA kexts I have are the ones supplied by bcc9 for use in patching 10.6.4 and the 10.6.5 patch will not work on it. In effect, I am unable to use AppleHDA, so I'm stuck with VoodooHDA and the annoying scratching for the time being.

Would anyone be as so kind as to upload an unpatched/patched 10.6.5-compatible AppleHDA that I might be able to use? Thanks in advance.

system preferences->security, uncheck 'Use secure virtual memory' as chameleon has no support for encrypted sleepimages. And reboot another time before trying to use.

Hi,

Have been reading the 1st post and the one on the 3rd page for the past week or so as well as check various tutorial online. Decided that I've understand enough to install SL on my XPS 1340.

It's sad to say I failed at the very beginning. :( I've booted my xps with the modified boot132 by bcc9 with my laptop but when I swapped it with a retail copy of OS 10.6 (borrowed from an iMac user) it refuses to boot and I keep getting "no HFS partition found" and "couldn't find mach_kernel". Not sure it doesn't work but all the tutorial I read seems to work smoothly.

I then decided to go the USB way. Managed to mount the same disc to my 40GB portable drive and tried booting it via boot132. Seems to be working fine until I get the "still waiting for root device" error. :( I then tried installing myHack Installer on the USB drive and booted with it. Still get the same "still waiting for root device" error.

Hoping to get some help on my noobish question. Thanks in advance.

did a fresh install using 10.6.3 retail dvd on a GPT disk, after moving chameleon to EFI partition and installing extra folder and kexts, the only thing that's not working is audio. I run bcc9's patch-hda program and it does not seem to have any effect. I did repair permission. Everything else loaded correctly and boot with -verbose.
