Sumanitu Taka Nagi
First off I want to get it out of the way that I'm a total newbie with Mac, I've been curious for quite some time but haven't ever touched a mac before...ever. I'm tinkered with Ubuntu before and I love it and am very interested in finding a solid Windows alternative to put on my lappy and thus lies my curiousity with trying out Mac and comparing it to linux and Windows. I hear Mac is very similar to linux... With that said, my laptop is an MSI GT735 and a friend advised me to to try ATKOS v7 to get myself introduced. However i'm running into some installation issues, either by ignorance or compatibility... here is a quick link to my machine on newegg http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...Tpk=MSI%20GT735 The first problem I've encountered is that my integrated touchpad and keyboard don't seem to operate while the installation disc is running, I have an external USB mouse and keybaord I can use though if that's just temporary...and I'm quite sure how to format my disc so that it is receptive for installation with Mac, I know how to do it with Linux and Windows, but I'm a bit turned around for Mac. If someone could help guide me through the process or point me to resources that can I would greatly appreciate it. I've tried searching this website and around the net but ahve found next to nothign pertaining so I thought I'd just register and speak directly. Sumanitu Taka Nagi
I would really appreciate some good help if someone is willing t take a few moments to look over the situation I have going on. I've tried to search across the web and this website and am having trouble finding information pertaining to my problems. Not sure if it's because the info isn't there or I'm jsut too in experienced to pick out it. I've managed to properly format my hard drive, I think, but when I go to install everything seems fine until the post install actions take place and I "always" get a kernel panic. I've tried both voodoo kernal 9.5 and 9.7, and I've tried neither and it doesn't matter. I get kernel panics. If I try and boot my laptop off the hard drive afterwards. Chamelon boot loader will appear fine...seemingly fine and attempt to boot the OS, but after a few moments my screeen turns into a jarbbled mess. So then I restart and boot off the ATKOS Disc and try again. I've been stuck inthis loop fr several tries.

For most users (especially newbies) MBR partitioning (rather than GPT) with HFS+ i.e. Mac OS Extended (Journaled) formatting of the OS X volume causes the fewest headaches......especially if you wnat to dual boot Windows.... As for iATKOSv7, as you know iATKOS v7 installs the 10.5.7 vanilla (i.e. Apple kernel) which you cannot run on a AMD CPU......so you need to choose either Voodoo 9.5.0 (more compatible) or Voodoo 9.7.0 (support for Intel i7) under kernels in the Customize menu..... BUT you also need to set up your BIOS correctly....if such options are present in your BIOS..... no-execute page-protection (NX) [Enabled] ACPI APIC Support [Enabled] ACPI Suspend Mode [s3] or [s1] or [s1 and S3] Configure SATA as "AHCI" or Serial-ATA Configuration [Enabled] If you do not have no-execute page-protection (NX), then look for XD or Execute Disable Bit.....whichever it is, it should be enabled......also, if present as this, CPU Internal Thermal Control [AUTO] Limit CPUID MaxVal [DISABLED] Enhanced C1 (C1E) [DISABLED] or similar, and initially install without a video driver....... Then, in Customize choose: iATKOS v7 Main System Bootloader: Chameleon v2 Be aware while Chameleon 2.0 can hardcode the SMBIOS information for your system, when you do not select an AppleSMBIOS option, it will set MacPro4,1 as the default on desktop PCs and this will apparently result in a kernel panic due to the TyMCE kext BUT be sure to install it again before updating to 10.5.8 or you will get a kernel panic after the update. X86 Patches: /Extra Directory DSDT ( Only select it if you have to use the cpus=1 flag to boot the OS X Install DVD or the HDD OS X system) Decrypters: Apple Decrypt (ESSENTIAL) SMBIOS drivers: Try SMBIOS' for X86: Try AppleSMBIOS-28 (or AppleSMBIOS netkas), or one of the AppleSMBIO enablers.... Kernel: 9.7.0 Voodoo Kernel (but if you have problems then use the official 9.5.0 Voodoo kernel plus the 10.5.5 seatbelt.kext (9.5.0 version)) ACPI: Initially try without......if you have problems try e.g. x86 ACPI Disabler OHR Drivers: VGA: Enablers : Initially none.....then try nVidia GT200 System: SATA/IDE ATI SATA/IDE USB Sound: Voodoo HDA driver PS/2: Voodoo PS/2 You may select Voodoo PS/2 which works for all and apparently allows USB-PS/2 mouse/keyboard combinations to work. Voodoo PS/2 with trackpad is an alternative choice for laptops but it fails on some laptops and cause freezes. The Apple PS/2 driver is an old driver that you will need to choose when using x86 modified ACPI drivers BUT by choosing Apple PS/2, the both mouse and keyboard should be PS/2 devices connected to PS/2 ports AFAIK..... NTFS-3G (to read/write NTFS partitions) Post-Install Actions Post-Install Actions is not required if and when you use the iATKOS v7 DVD to re-install a driver..... Sumanitu Taka Nagi
Thanks, I'll give that a try right now, previously i had been Mac Extended Jumbled format and a GUID partition system. Since I have two seperate machines I'm not terribly interested in dual booting. Having just Mac on my laptop would suffice for now. But yes, I'll review this and try it now, thanks again
Sumanitu Taka Nagi
Okay, in the BIOS Setup I have very little options. It seems to e rather bare and I'm not finding any of the BIOS options you listed or anything remotely similar except that my BIOS has a 'Power Now' option that enables ACPI objects as well as a few other objects. This was enabled by default Everything else was easy enough to follow and I did, I choose the Voodoo 9.5 kernel when it came to that option, however I did not see anything about a seatbelt kext. The install completed however in post-install actions I got another kernel panic and when restarting and trying to boot the OS, chamelon loads and attempts to boot Mac OS and I get another Kernel panic after the Apple Logo....no funky screen junk this time though. Check in /System/Library/Extensions to see if there is seatbelt.kext and if you can mount .dmg files without any problems it is the correct version..... Boot with -v and post a screen shot of the kernel panic(s)......

Doesn't seem like I'd ahve any way of saving it. Also how would I go about navigating into that system folder if I can not boot into the OS since I get a kernel panic before it fully loads? Digital camera since if there is a kernel panic without the PC auto-rebooting the boot screen will freeze..... Worry about seatbelt.kext once cause of kernel panic is identified..... Sumanitu Taka Nagi
hmm, I don't believe i have to 2 PS2 ports since I ahve a laptop, would my integrated keyboard and touchpads PS2 on the inside? I've been using external USB during the install thus far and after the isntall my integrated stuff has been working for the bootloader I installed the driver and patcha nd am having no sucess. When I boot with chamelon I get the apple logo and moments later my screen turns into jumbled junk. If I boot in verbos mode, I notice some yellow highlighted fialure lines butt hey pass too quickly for me to read and eventually it turns into jumbled screen junk as well. Internally they are typically PS/2 based...... When you boot with Chameleon try booting with -v cpus=1 debug=0x100 and report what you see on the boot up screen.... Sumanitu Taka Nagi
Okay, I got the machine living again...took the battery otu and let it sit for a bit. When I ran that command I got virtually the same thing...it ran for a bit and showed me in text all the things it was doing and eventually stopped with a screwed up visually jumbled screen.
