I have a problem with video card

I have the NVIDIA 8600GT 256 MB

System ProFile registered 8800GT 512MB

I did exactly the guide settings

And that does not affect and I have no QE / CI

What should I do?

You can get your 8600GT video card working using one of three methods.

1 - Patch DSDT with the video

2 - Add device (EFI) string to com.apple.Boot.plist

3 - add GraphicsEnabler=Yes to your com.apple.Boot.plist for Chameleon to inject the device properties.

 

from the Chameleon docs...

GraphicsEnabler=Yes|No Automatic device-properties generation for graphics cards.

EthernetBuiltIn=Yes|No Automatic "built-in"=yes device-properties generation for ethernet interfaces.

Hallo, I have the same problem with a 8400GS 256MB. I dunno why but it worked with the GraphicsEnabler=y on a G31M-ES2L, but here I cannot make it work the same way and not even via EFI String. For comparison I had the same problem on my rig's DFI X38 T2R and a 8800 GTS 512 but the EFI String method (under 10.6.0) worked like a charm.. is it normal that the same video works via Chameleon on a mobo and not another?

 

PS: sorry but even from the your DSDT thread I cannot understand which is the suggested guide to add the videocard support via DSDT.

I followed the guide strictly. Patching DSDT didn't work for video (7300GS) nor ethernet, the same with GraphicsEnabler in boot.plist. With adding EFI string to boot.plist I was successful.

 

Now I have a weird problem: my mighty mouse stops working after waking up from hibernation. The apple keyboard works, but mouse is dead. Can you please help me?

Chameleon's current auto injection of video / network works if your hardware is identified on PCIroot0 (you can check this in IORegistryExplorer). If your hardware is on PCIroot1 then you might have to use Netkas' PC EFI v10.n.

 

As for DSDT, you can download my simple 'DSDT Guide for GA-EP45-DS3L' PDF from my DSDT thread (see sig for link), and if that doesn't help you then you can find further info for ACPIPatcher here.

I have no experience with using a cordless mouse on a hack. Maybe somebody else here can help you. If not, you'll have to search the forum.

Thanks! i've tried adding the graphics efi string, the very same string i've been using for leopard. i've also tried generating a new string with efi studio. i've also worked out if i add anything any lines to the boot.plist the same the thing happens! for example inbuilt ethernet etc.

 

if delete the efi string or any lines added to SL Boots. this happens with chameleon rc3 and netkas 10.5.

 

any ideas, seems quite odd.

I haven't come across this before. All I can ask is you double check the device (EFI) strings you are adding. Maybe try adding the string only for your video then if that works, try the ethernet one. If successful, then combine them together?

 

 

I can run in either perfectly and I only switched back to 32-bit mode yesterday from using 64-bit mode for the last week. For me, there's absolutely no difference in running either, and I had forgotten mine was running in 64-bit until I checked my com.apple.Boot.plist for something else and noticed it.. :)

 

As for the sound, there is a note on the front page of this thread under the 'Up to date info that's not in the PDF guide' section' about this. You need to change the model of your mac in SMBIOS.plist. I have since, however changed mine back to iMac9,1 to help with DSDT SpeedStep, though it gets the 'audio pop' back. But as I am still in testing stages I don't know if that's going to be permanent yet.

I don''t know, can you post your com.apple.Boot.plists - the one that boots your system, and the one that make it fail to boot. And what system are you running 10.6.0/1/2?

 

Can you and everybody else please make a signature and include your system specs and details to help me and others see at a glance what you are running. Hopefully, this will help me identify problems easier and quicker. Thanks

Uhm, it looks like it was a Chamleon/PC EFI issue, messing around installing them gave me a GraphicsEnabler perfectly working (I used my myHack USB bootable key to install leopard and the bootloaders).

Great. I am happy you have it working. It's always best to start with using the original installers as you don't always know what others might have changed with the settings.

I made that one myself from the Snow DVD, but I liked the idea of using that one so that I can make every hackintosh using the same key with the addons put in a folder -_- can you update us on the your Speedstep via DSDT status? I tried VoodooPower and VoodooPowerMini but doing a simpole Peacekeeper browser benchmark will show that in exchange for decreased voltages when in idle or mid-load you loose a lot of performance, that shouldn't happen almost at all! :-S

If you have this error message in your Kernel.log here's how to fix it.

 

Open "show package contents" FakeSMC.kext & edit the info.plist by adding these keys;

Okay. My latest DSDT is posted here. It's a work in progress as I am currently going through MasterChief's DSDT v3.1 and trying to understand it better.

I've never played with PeaceKeeper (thanks for the link), so I will try it with and without my Speedstep and see what difference it makes.

I looked into these messages in the kernel log to find out what they were. And Netkas has said 'its info dumped to let u know what keys missing'. So I understand that I can add the key in to the info.plist, but do I have to add a key for each of these?

Small ethernet problem: the first time I tried to use the Ethernet link intensively (I got gigabit at home) I noticed that it was configured for auto negotiation but it was connected at 10Mbps! Forcing it to 1000 resulted in an impossibility to establish e valid link, at 100 it worked but the actual throughput was still 10 MBits/s. After a reboot the network prefpane reports as if I had left it configured at 1000 and now it actually seems to work at actual gigabit speeds (40+MB/s).. don't know if I'm the only one who suffered this issue. I'm testing 6 GB of ram and it's working ok (it will get 8 GB at the end of the setting up).

Ok, well suddenly my problem has literally fixed itself. I installed an 8800gt video card flashed to 9800gt bios, something I planed to replace anyway because my old card only had one DVI port. I boot up, fire up safari just because, and BAM it works... not sure what this means, but everything works. Thanks for all the help, amazing guide! Hopefully this will be the last question from me!

So the video card seemed to be causing the problem?

Thanks for confirming you have them too. Don't worry for now but to remove these messages we can add each key described in the kernel log to the info.plist as flyguyjake showed. I tried it with the first three and the no longer appeared.

It's not a cordless mouse. In fact, any USB mouse won't work after my system wakes up from hibernation. It's very strange. It behaves as if the system was freezed. However, the usb keyboard works and the usb flash drive too. Even if I disconect the mouse it won't work again.

 

Sorry to bother you. I decided to ask you because I followed your guide - the best so far - and I thought you could help me. I think the problem is related do USB.

Hi jamonda. I would like to help but I don't know exactly what the cause is. I don't know what hardware you're running, or what BIOS version etc. If your USB keyboard & flash drive work okay but not your mouse then I don't know. Have you tried a different USB port for your mouse?

I want to install WIN7 just for games' i have a assignment HDD for this.

I want that chameleon will load always osx without asking unless i asked for chame menu.

how do i do that, and if I install win7 it can destroy my installation?

Unplug your current HDD with OS X from the motherboard.

Plug your separate HDD in to SATA port 0 and install Windows 7 on to it.

Then re-plug your OS X HDD back in (it's up to you which SATA ports you use), then in BIOS choose your existing OS X HDD as default boot drive. Your existing Chameleon install will recognise Windows 7 and let you select it. (It might only allow you boot from the 'System Reserved' partition though - wait and see what happens)

I have a setup of having SL 10.6.2 and Windows 7 on different HDD and Windows 7 was installed as what you recommended. Chameleon (on separte partition:Cham) did recognise Windows 7 but no 'System Reserved' showing.

I was not successful in dual booting SL & Windows 7.

I select Windows 7 and tried booting it. Windows 7 didn't boot up. There was some strange characters showing up and the screen freeze. After this, I tried booting up Windows 7 directly and it failed too.

Apparently something has corrupted the Windows 7 boot sector. I have to do repair before it can boot up again.

I would be interested to know itorra's experience or some others who have tried dual boot with Chameleon with SL and Windows 7 on different HDD.

TQ for sharing above latest with us. I patched LegacyHDA as what you indicated and sure enough the 2 errors that you hilited were eliminated ;) . However there was no obvious noticeable change in sound performance :D .

Should there be any positive impact with the change?

I will hold the change on OSXRestart till you have a chance to sort out the problem on shutdown.

Slowly but surely, we are on our way to making a perfect "Slow Leopard" with your contribution :rolleyes: .

That's good. I say that because I read that Windows 7 installed a 200Mb System Reserved (EFI type) partition which some users have had to select in Chameleon to boot Windows 7. If yours hasn't got it then good. When I used to do my dual boots of OSX & Win7 on the same HDD, Windows didn't install the System Reserved partition either.

Something obviously went wrong, as it should be simple. The only problem I have read is that when booting Windows 7 with a different booter, it won't sleep enter sleep.

Changing the LegacyHDA.kext won't affect the sound. Were you expecting it to? Have you problems with your audio quality?

Yes. Leave OSXRestart for now, it's was just for testing to show there is progress being made. And since posting that news item, I noticed I couldn't shutdown my system completely using it.

And yes, the OSX86 scene is moving along with pace at the moment :D

This guide applied on GA-EP43-DS2L successfully on MAc OSX Server 10.6.1

I am trying the 10.6.2 update with the new sleep kext....

 

Installed 10.6.2 via SW update. It booted OK -_-

[although trying to fix sound ALC888.. still no sound with latest 64 bit kexts:AppleHDA.kext & HDAEnabler.kext]

but it ruined my 'About this Mac' :(

No sound: the kexts of 10.6.1 Mac OS X do not work on OS X Server 10.6.2.

My motherboard is GA-P35C-DS3R. I can't activate video via DSDT, only with EFI string in boot.plist. Sound works with VoodooHDA.kext, but not with DSDT patch, nor with the kexts from your pack. And I have this problem with usb mouse not working after waking up from hibernation (hibernatemode 1 or 3; works when waking from sleep with hibernatemode 0). Actually, it seems that the DSDT patch only worked to eliminate the CMOS reset bug.

Does anybody have wake from USB working on this board? I read the with the P35-ds3l it can't do that, but I emailed gigabyte and they said that the ep45-ds3l can if you install "EnableUSBS3XP" in Windows XP. I'm not nearly qualified to hack that and see if it's methods could be implemented on OS X though. Someone with the right expertise should have a look if they want.

 

Also, I posted in this thread awhile ago about doing the Bonjour hack with a launch daemon instead of an AppleScript. It seems to work alright, but sometimes I have to relaunch it. If someone knows more about launch daemons and wants to play with it, shoot me a PM and I'll send it to you. I think it's a more elegant solution than an AppleScript.
