Can somebody help me fix this small problem Getting Snow Leopard to recognize My CPU, mine shows "Unknown" I've tried to play with SMBIOS.plist but with no luck.

Hi, msb!

You should try this: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=189562

In few words you shoul do this:

Download CPUInjector and edit info.plist to match you CPU

for Core 2 Duo:

<key>entriesToAdd</key>
		  <dict>
			  <key>cpu-type</key>
			  <data>AQM=0103</data>
		  </dict>

for Core 2 Quad:

<key>entriesToAdd</key>
		 <dict>
			   <key>cpu-type</key>
			   <data>AQU=0105</data>
		  </dict>

Then place CPUInjector.kext to /Extra/Extensions

Also you could try this:

You can also attempt to manually specify your CPU type by editing smbios.plist with:

<key>SMcputype</key>

<string>1281</string>

Currently, the known numbers to put in this value is as follows:

1281 - Quad-Core Intel Xeon

769 - Intel Core 2 Duo

thanks goes to DigitalDJ

Hope it helps, and sorry my english :rolleyes:

I confirm successful installation on GA-EP43-DS3 with this BootCD, and Voodoo 64bit,

BUT I found a strange problem, when there is a CD or DVD into the DVD drive (mine is LG GH22NS30) the drive becom after few minutes unreachable and can't take out the cd and blocking all my Snow Leopard, and when I restart the bios has a problem to identify the dvd drive.

Does any one has the same problem?

And after sleep the sound is crappy too.

Cheers!

Just to keep up to date with this. DigitalDJ will no longer support CPUInjector.kext. I have posted here about this and updated the news on the front page of this thread. The CPU detection is now incorporated in to DigitalDJ's patched version of Netkas' PC EFI v10.3 boot file. Bookmark DigitalDJ's thread and keep up to date with what's happening.

mitko17 - Where in the guide does it mention VoodooHDA 64bit? This thread is not the place to discuss that.

Sorry if I missed this...but what is the correct method for adding a "valid" SMserial string to SMBIOS.plist? I am assuming its not very important since I am running with "SOMESRLNMBR" but I am just curious about it. Thanks.

You need to find a serial number from somewhere (search the internet) and add it in place of SOMESRLNMBR in SMBIOS.plist

I have had a couple crashes today when trying to run full screen video on one of the displays. Anyone had any stability issues with dual displays and nvidia cards? I have not had similar issues uwing 10.5.x. I am using a 9800GT 512M.

EDIT: Just had the same issue running Linux on this box. Prior to the F11b BIOS this box was rock steady so I dont think the issue is related to OSX, I am going to go back to F10 and see how it does.

Right now I am starting from scratch because I am trying to get dual boot to work on a single drive. I installed Win7 on another partition, Windows boot loader took over as expected, and then I booted Snow with the usb flash drive, but I then couldn't flag the Snow partition as active to bring it back. I was getting some fdisk error, hence why I am starting from scratch. Any insight would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Edit, figured out my first issue, am now going to try dual boot again. I will go to your other thread for that =P

Just a follow-up to keep from pointing anyone in the wrong direction..

I think my issues are related to a failing power supply. Going back to F10 did not solve the issues and after a year of stability suddenly this box cant handle anything that puts the video card under high load. Tried a few different Nvidia cards, RAM, currently don't have a spare PS to test with so a new PS is in route, I'll reply when certain...should be Wed afternoon.

10.6.2 released to developers!!! Woot Woot ... Apple's hot to trot! 10.6.2

Thanks for the heads up flyguyjake - I look forward to that :)

@EnzoFX - Okay, I'll catch you up in my dual boot thread ;)

@linuxsense - Do you think updating to the beta BIOS upset your PSU in any way? I haven't noticed any side effects but two video cards will take more power.. Hope a replacement PSU helps you out.

Hi Blackosx. Where did you read that DDJ will not be supporting CPUInjector? His boot file actually uses Netkas 10.2 (not 10.3) with that annoying CD/DVD boot procedure. I really wish he would do it with 10.3. I'm back with CPUInjector in E/E.

Oh, I actually took this.....

as info that DigitalDJ used PC EFI v10.3. I must have been mistaken. Thanks for the heads up :)

Yes, I don't understand it either. Why does he say he used 10.3 to start, then further down say that he used 10.2?

I'm confused!

----------------------NEW BOOTLOADER SOLUTION----------------------

OK, so I actually modified Chameleon RC3 with netkas' PC_EFI 10.3. I also added a few tweaks and renamed it Chameleon-2.0-RC3-r658-PCEFIV10.3-ddj0.4

Version 0.4 includes:

- The CD Driver netkas included in PC_EFI 10.2 (but pulled in 10.3)

- A hibernation fix

- This automated CPU injector

as info that DigitalDJ used PC EFI v10.3. I must have been mistaken. Thanks for the heads up :)

BlackOSX,

Have you experienced or heard anyone who upgraded to version 11b BIOS had issues with on-board ethernet?

I updated my BIOS to 11b last night, and I noticed that I lost connection to network on Win7 and SL.

I had to revert back to version 10 again, and I still did not have network connection! on Win7, I removed and reinstalled network driver and I got the connection to network. I have not tried on SL yet as I had to sleep.

Anyways, today when I go home I'll try to flash BIOS to 11b again. Yes, Boot time was INCREDIBLY FAST with 11b BIOS!

Yes, it happened to me. I posted about it.... (and linked to my post in the F11b update in the news section on the front page).. If this is becoming a common occurrence then maybe I should put the actual details on the front page.?

..............Snow Leopard booted up first time but I didn't have network. DCHP was self-assigned ... 169.?.?.?

I have had this before so I switched off the computer, and flicked the power switch to off and left it for a minute to reset the CMOS. Flicked the power switch back on, and press the power button on the front. All booted perfectly and network is now back to normal. Everything works as it should. Bingo! :).............

Have you tried an "Load Optimal Settings", on updated BIOS?

This may fix..

I had the same issue going to F10; solved after some fumbling around by powering off router and modem then restarting them.

Update and help request:

So far I have partitioned similarly to the guide (1 gig Cham / 250 gig SnowLeopard / 50 gig WIN7 / 200 gig Media) and booting from bootCD installed Snow Leopard on the SnowLeopard partition.

When I run the Chameleon installer on the support documents provided (remembering to change install location to 'Cham' and uncheck all options except chameleon standard and themes->standard) it gets as far as 'writing files' and 'running package scripts' during the 'installation' part of the installer then says: "The Installation failed. The Installer encountered an error that caused the installation to fail. Contact the software manufacturer for assistance." A decent number of hours googling proved unhelpful :)

TL;DR: Chameleon RC2 installer installation fails when I use it.
