blackosx,

You and I both love for everything to be taken care of by the DSDT.aml. Have you seen the recently "English" language port of the DSDTSE tool by Ev0sx86 team? Seems like they compiled a bunch of the DSDT fixes and DSDT hacks available out there in a DSDT tool/editor. Here's a link to it: http://www.osx86.es/?p=610

Cheers,

does the bootcd only work with sata drives?

maybe thats where my issue is as i have an IDE drive

anyway to get around it?

Thanks for the awesome guide!

I read that with 10.6, Apple ceased support of IDE. So getting it to work will probably involve some hacks or loading of older kext files. My advice based on my own experience is to switch the system to all SATA. Pretty simple and cheap to do nowadays and makes for a much more "vanilla" hackintosh experience.

You could also try creating a USB boot stick instead. I prefer this method because it wasn't any more difficult to get going and I have the ability to drop and update the kext in Extra/Extension easily without having to burn a new CD each time.

Good luck.

Thanks

Am I correct to assume that without these older kexts, that if I use the usb method, I will not have access to the optical drive?

WIll any Sata drive work?

Thanks and sorry if this is elementary for all of you guys

Yeah, I have posted a link about DSDTSE on the front page of my DSDT thread. I saw it a while back when it was in Spanish, and waited patiently for it to be translated. I have it on my system already. ;)

@BLACKOSX,

HUGE THANK YOU!!

YOUR IOATAFAMILY WORKS!!!!

I don't have a Gigabyte motherboard. I only have an Acer laptop with ICH7-M SATA controller.

For the past three weeks, nothing I tried could get me past the kernel panic when loading the vanilla AppleIntelPIIXATA.

I noticed in your GA-EP45-DS3L-SL v1.01.iso, you have an IOATAFamily in the Preboot.dmg/Extra/Extensions.

I decided to give it a try. I simply put your IOATAFamily in Extra/Extensions. For the first time, I'm able to boot the Vanilla AppleIntelPIIXATA without kernel panic.

You kext is very ingenious. When it loads, the version number is so offbeat that the Vanilla IOATAFamily cannot load and overwrite it, thereby preventing the kernel panic with the Vanilla AppleIntelPIIXATA. Very ingenious indeed.

I tried you kext in the FlashGX SL Boot 132 CD and I can load the retail SL DVD up to the GUI Installer with both my SATA hard drives showing.

All my ATA devices work fine. I can see my IDE DVD Drive.

At the moment, you kext only works in 32-bit, but that's a huge start.

Thanks again.

Hi bshagnasty

Well done for getting your system up an running ;)

The static chirp has been mentioned before and yes, I get it too. But after all the other audio solutions I have tried for this motherboard, I still stick with this one being the best. So is the tiny little blip before the very first sound really that much of a problem?

As for your restarts, you shouldn't be getting any as my system is rock solid. It's either a hardware problem or there is something wrong with your Snow Leopard build.

Capt_Boom

I appreciate you trying to help out, but I don't support your idea of posting BootCD's and extra folders for a different motherboard here. There is a whole forum out there for you to add a thread with your specific files and then all you needed to do was post a link here to that thread to notify others about your files for that mobo. I say this is because I don't want this thread littered with posts about your files for a different mobo!

No Problem i can understand your point

Hi Jingu, Thanks for your kind comments.

But you really need to be thanking Superhai as the BootCD I use here is based on Superhai's original.

I posted here that I found a BootCD posted by Superhai, and the link to his original post is here. So that kext also came from Superhai.

blackosx, B)

i would like to report a successful 10.6 retail installation with the following hardware:

Install method: GA-EP45-DS3L boot 132 CD and retail DVD.

Hardware configuration:

GA-EP43-DS3, BIOS F9

Intel Core2 Duo E7500 @ 2,97GHz

nVidia GeForce 9500 GT, 1GB VRAM (running as 8800 GT via EFI string in boot.plist and DSDT patch too)

6GB DDR2 800MHz G.Skill

I used your DSDT guide to compile a working DSDT for my hardware. Nice and easy guide too.

no KPs. updated to 10.6.1 via software update.

Huge thanx to you for your marvelous and very user friendly guide. Its a must :(:thumbsup_anim:

keep up the good work in the future ;)

Also huge thanx to all of the guys behind the insanelymac, Chameleon, netkas, stellarola, all the OSX86 scene

Great guide! (for this board and the dsdt).

I got snow leopard working, except for few annoyances:

- the first time you start playing any audio, i get a static chirp and then the audio plays. This happens if you don't play a sound for 5-10 minutes (it seems as if it "sleeps" my audio device after few minutes and has the static chirp when it "wakes" it up again).

I had that problem too. Try to set your model to MacPro3,1 in the smbios.plist.

That fixed it for me :D Maybe it will help you too...

I got working!!! Thanks BlackOSX for all your help. No KP in 64-bit mode yet!!! Boots in 15 - 20 seconds on my 10,000RPM velociraptor drive!

Here are some notes I made for my rig to work:

1. I had to buy a SATA DVD drive for the bootcd to work.

2. I Bought a nVidia 8600 GT (to replace my ATI 2600XT) card on ebay for $35 to get OpenCL, etc. I used EFI studio.

3. I bought the retail DVD of Snow Leopard. (When I tried a torrent that I burned, it would fail to install on the HD. The retail worked flawlessly. I guess you get what you pay for, and it was only $29).

4. Fixing the CMOS bug was a pain. I t would keep changing back to 04 number for some reason. But now it works! No more CMOS issues.

5. Used VoodooHDA (Stell's Blog) to get the sound working.

6. Upgraded to 10.6.1, no issues.

I was wondering if you saw this method outlined here to customize the DSDL.aml file further to get rid of the IOAHCIBlockStorageInjector.kext? Look in particular at the SATA fix. http://www.infinitemac.com/f57/how-to-snow.../post34233.html

-Daryoon

I tried this out. I can confirm that it works fine! No need for IOAHCIBlockStorageInjector.kext anymore.

And guess what... This fixed all my remaining problems! :D :D :D

No more kernel panics on hd spindown in single user / safe mode.

And sleep works finally!!! After all those hours searching for a solution. My system runs without any flaws now :thumbsup_anim:

Thank you very much daryoon

titan4, maybe you should try this too when you still have problems with sleep?

I would like to thanks Blackosx for snow Leopard guide and i would like to report a successful 10.6 retail installation including 10.6.1 update with the following hardware:

Install method: Using Chameleon v2 RC3 r658 bootable USB thumb drive containing Mac OS X 10.6 including my own DSDT.aml.

Fresh install of 10.6 this made build in network and audio to works including pci network card. I tried with upgrade from 10.5.7 to 10.6 and audio works and built in network did not.

Hardware configuration:

GA-EP43-UD3R, BIOS F6

Intel Core2 Duo Q9400 @ 2.67GHz

nVidia GeForce 8800 GT, 512GB VRAM (running as 8800 GT via EFI string in boot.plist and DSDT patch too)

4GB DDR2 1066MHz Kingston

I used different methodes to compile a working DSDT for my hardware but I am waiting to include audio and Video later.Tomorrow I will start to install Windows 7.

I found out that you can't install 10.6 in port1 partition only port0, then I use carbon cloner to copy to port1 partition and use p12 to switch. I have chameleon1 in port0 10.5.7 and Chameleon 2 in port1 10.6.1.

I would like to thank blackosx again for his best guide.

I tried the Boot from CD method and got following results:

1. Snow installed to the SnowLeopard partition successfully, but I noticed

during the install that it went from about 18 minutes to complete in less

then 10 seconds. Said it was successful.

2, Continued on.

3. When I finally tried booting to Snow, I disconnected my Leopard drive and

Chameleon showed only the SnowLeopard device and attempted to boot.

Got a panic immediately with x0000000000000002

Should there be a boot file on my SnowLeopard partition after install and an

Extra folder? They aren't there.

Any ideas?

Exiting Xcode and going for it right now. I will report as soon as I try it. Thanks !

EDIT: Lintendo to which section you added that method ? Because I don't have SATA section in my DSDT.

EDIT2: So I added whole SATA section from DSDTSE and edited that Method. I don't need IOAHCIBlockStorageInjector anymore but sleep still doesn't work :(

Thank you so much, blackosx and everyone who contributed to this guide.

I tried the installation method via boot cd and Snow Leopard dvd today and it worked right away. Running Snow Leopard in 32 bit due to some external hardware I cannot find 64 bit drivers for. But i don’t mind as I don’t have more than 4 GB of RAM anyway. Updated to 10.6.1 without any problems.

However, I'm very happy with it running so smoothly. I gave up on my laptop though, ordering a MacBook Pro 15" by the end of the week so I will finally have portable Snow Leopard as well. :-).

Thanks again for the great guide. Everything’s working fine—haven’t tested sleep though, don’t use that on a desktop.

My Hardware: nVidia GeForce 8600 GTS 512 MB, Intel Core2Duo 7400, Gigabyte GA-EP45-DS3LR, OCZ 4 GB DDR-2 800 MHz Platinum.

i got the almost similar problem to the above described.

reinstall chameleon following the directions in the blackosx guide.

The most common Kernel Panic is the one immediately after boot which is normally caused by the lack of the Chameleon RC3 boot file.

Just to be clear- with the new version of the guide, do you still need a Leopard computer?

I want to install Snow Leopard because I accidentally botched my Leopard install and with SL out now I don't feel like keeping an old version. I do not have a Mac, nor do I have the space to make another Leopard partition.

I don't have SATA section in my DSDT too.

I added the code directly before "Device (PRIM)"... Maybe you should try again with IDE section?

I noticed now that usb storage is unmounted with an error message after sleep. :) So it's still not working 100% correct

Any ideas how to fix that?

Thing is you don't exactly need this because you can use BootCD to boot to installed SL. You will probably have some issues like nothing working properly but you can use it to do the rest....but it is better to install Chameleon from Leopard, since last time I heard there were some issues with installing from SL (not sure if they still exists or if you would have them). But feel free to try it. Just create Chameleon and SL partitions with Disk Utility on retail DVD and install SL. Then boot with BootCD to installed SL and install Chameleon from it.

I have IDE disabled in BIOS so it would make no sense to add it there, but as I said I don't need the kext anymore so I patched it just fine. I guess I have different sleep problem than you :) Actually I don't have sleep problem I have waking problem :)

For your USB try this post.

Problem no is, I don't see any of my drives on the desktop but they do show in

Disk utility.

Also, it didn't find my Marvel yukon ethernet ports.

aaa, got you :-)

For the drives not shown on the desktop go to Finder/Preferences/Sidebar and mark Harddisks --> they will appear onto the desktop.

As far as i know Marvel Yukon works under OS X (my old mobo was Asus..) --> its a mather of DSDT patching i suppose. Why dont you try EFI string for your ethernet in apple.com.boot.plist ?

good luck :-)

Hey blackosx

Tried your boot cd, and also tried making my own, both produce the same symptoms: after DMI pool data and the disk being read, the system just restarts back to the POST screen.

Am i missing something?

On an EP35-DS3

Thanks

Oli

Sounds like the same problem I'm having, it's caused by having an IDE dvd drive and not a SATA drive. You'll need a SATA dvd drive, I think newegg has one for less than $20.00.
