Interesting that a new boot file would fix this issuse? but good news all the same :)

Now I'm having this errors on boot:

kernel[0]: Sound assertion "0 == pathMap_aDriverInstance" failed in "/SourceCache/AppleHDA/AppleHDA-174.1.1/AppleHDA/AppleHDADriver.cpp" at line 1459 goto Exit

kernel[0]: Sound assertion "0 != createAudioEngines ( fPathMap_aDriverInstance )" failed in "/SourceCache/AppleHDA/AppleHDA-174.1.1/AppleHDA/AppleHDADriver.cpp" at line 172 goto Exit

I have those too. They are not relevant in my opinion and they do not cause any audio problems.

And blackosx ye Galaxies is cool. And what a difference too ! I am very excited how this can be used to make common things like video encoding faster.

Hey Blackosx

First things first, You are a legend!

Secondly, what is the deal with the UUID fix? What is it for, what does it fix, doesnt say in your guide.

Thirdly, do you, or anyone else have an issue when installing printer drivers via software update that you get a kernel panic, and the process causing it is update_dyld_shar.

Forth, ive been looking around for ages for a fix to the sound assertion errors shown when booting in verbose mode but so far have come up short, any ideas?

Firth, sorry for all the questions

Thanks in advance

Oli

P.S Successful system on 1.6 on EP35-DS3 with sound, nvidia 8600gt, and network on 32bit so far, trying out 64 now.

I have installed chameleon rc 3 but still got the kernel panics on hd spin down...

I also managed to have all my usb ports recognised as "built-in" with the link you posted but still no luck with sleep.

I also updated to latest BIOS version and built a new dsdt.aml but that didn't help with my problems either.

I don't know what else to try...

Damn... I am so close! Everything else is running fine.

Anyway, thanks again for your help and the effort put into the guide! :P

And actually I was wondering today about it too. Would like to know too, pleeeeeease Mr. Legen(wait for it)dary ! :-P

(Sorry I am just in good mood)

When I was searching for solution for my problem with sleep (unsuccessfully) I found that there might be some issues when overclocking. Try temporarily set your CPU speed to original one if it not an issue here. (Not saying that it is, just idea).

And when I was searching for my sleep issue (sleeps well, instead of waking up it restarts) I found on official forums that on legit Mac Pro it can be caused by incompatible RAM modules, but again I don't have any other modules to test :-(

If it makes any sense to you, the KP I am getting at boot from SnowLeopard partition (I've taken some pics - will upload tomorrow) is the exact same KP with the one I was getting initially while trying to boot via the USB HDD boot disk I created for the usb installation (which failed because I couldn't boot). I finally managed to install SL with the boot disk but it didn't get me very far, as I'm getting again the same KP. But I feel I am much closer now, I think the new chameleon made the difference and got past that awful "Loading HFS+..." error message I was getting until yesterday.

This doesn't cover the errors in /Volume/SnowLeopard

Nevermind I'll take a shot with my mobile phone and upload it tomorrow. I was very excited I overcame with your help that @Loading HFS+@ error message that I almost peed my pants when it went past it. But it doesn't want to play easy ;) what else can I do other than ask on this forum for help

Hi c0h1b4

I get these too... but as titan4 replied, they shouldn't cause you any audio problems.

But you can still boot regardless of these errors?

And blackosx ye Galaxies is cool. And what a difference too ! I am very excited how this can be used to make common things like video encoding faster.

You found it then ;) But yes, I know, how amazingly quick?... the future looks fast for OpenCL enabled apps.

Hi uketernity

The UUID fix, helps with cure an Error 35 which appears in the system.log, but I have since seen a post floating around which claims to get around this without using a kext... (it's hard to keep up with all the new developments at the moment). The UUID error fix is not cosmetic as it has been reported to mess with your networking for example, hiccups with AFP permissions. But in truth, I don't fully understand it either ;)

I haven't tried installing the printer drivers because I don't want them on my system. If I need a printer then I will manually add the ppd or whatever is needed to my system. So I have never tried to update a printer driver via software update, sorry.

As for your sound assertion errors, do you actually have a problem with your sound working? The reason I ask is because I don't really know that much about the errors.

Hi Lintendo - Well done with for advances, but sorry to hear you still have problems.... i will have to do some research for you when I get some time.. that's all I can suggest for know.

Thanks! Yes my CPU is overclocked, I will try that out.

So you're still having sleep problems too?

I just had a very very bad surprise... Snow Leopard killed my download folder on a ntfs partition with about 30 gigabyte of content  I can't access the folder anymore...

So every body be careful with the native ntfs read / write support.

Damn KP's!.... So you got Snow Leopard installed by using the BootCD, but it still wont boot?.. It's got to be your kexts.. Have your tried booting with out any extra stuff in the com.apple.Boot.plist and with no DSDT.aml?

Maybe you need some different kexts? Have you tried with only the default kexts that are supplied with Chameleon RC3?..

oh... and hopefully you won't pee your pants!!! (lol)

Damn, you sure you didn't tried to merge some another download folder with it ? Because I once deleted folder like that because i didn't know that os x replaces folders instead of merging them like windows does (that is so stupid !). But I was wondering a lot why Apple removed default write support that was in one SL beta. You can't access it even on windows ? Maybe chkdisk can help (or finish it).

And ye it still does not work for me, but I just don't care anymore. I killed my relatively stable install by playing with different stuff to fix it to no success.

Lol.. thanks..

You are mostly welcome. It is me who should thank you for all your help and dedication. I am just ordinary Windows Server Administrator who is such a noob regarding OS X (but fast learner) but I am always happy to help as much as I can.

Now I can proudly say I'm writing down from Snow Leopard !!!

At last !!!!!!!!!! Thank you very much all you people, especially my friend blackosx for never giving up.

...After 30 minutes no kernel panic at all !!!! ;)

Hi macastragalos - BINGO! :D

This is good news mate - Well done for persevering with it, Fingers crossed it doesn't KP!

Whooa.. Really? Not good.. Thanks for the tip Lintendo. But how do you think it happened? was it you messing with it, or a bug in the NTFS r/w? (I haven't got round to trying it yet)

i didn't know that os x replaces folders instead of merging them like windows does (that is so stupid !).

I agree, the Windows merge is a very useful feature.

EDIT: Windows Server Administrator? - Really?... maybe I can come to you then when I have problems. Lol .... I had a corrupt Exchange database the other month, caused by a UPS failing after a power cut and that was a nightmare... I had to call in an external support company to rebuild it for me.... :( (anyway that's for somewhere else, not here :P )

I did the following:

I had the dmg for Stuffit in that download folder on the NTFS partition, so I started the installer from there (did that in Leopard with Paragon many times without any problems) and the installation froze at the begining, so I forced it to quit.

After that SL is showing the folder that was full of stuff as empty :)

In Windows the folder is inaccessible now, I just get an error message that it is damaged...

I will try with chkdsk tomorrow, have to go to bed now.

Thank you both again for your help and suggestions!

After installing chameleon rc3 I'm getting the following errors on boot:

between "Waiting for DSMOS..." and "DSMOS has arrived"

The sound is working, by the way...

I finally got mine working! First no luck with Radeon HD3870 :D Then video signal died at language choosing screen with GTX 260. This was using the new rc3 boot cd. So, I edited the boot.plist on the boot cd to include efi strings for the gtx 260, and set chameleon's GraphicsEnabler=No, and it worked! I could post the cd image, but I think it will only be effective for people who are running an evga gtx 260 216 superclocked edition on an ep45-ds3l. I'll check back to see if there is interest in a bit.

Update:

@ blackosx: Regarding my sudden crash / KP problems with 10.6 after installing the Adobe Flash update. I used Diskwarrior running from 10.5.8 to repair any issues with my 10.6 installation on it's separate hard drive. I then installed the new Chameleon RC3 boot file to my Cham partition. I forgot to update the com.apple.boot.plist file for 32 bit operation with this boot file. So I just rebooted into Snow Leopard 64 bit and it has been running smooth as glass again - except that sound does not work 8-( so far. This is the first time I have run in 64 bit mode and so far it has been very stable running all day long with no problems. I have not tried to boot into 32 bit mode yet though. Perhaps sound will work there. I do see a grayed out sound volume icon in the upper section of my screen but there are no input and output options available in system preferences.

I suppose I will not have to re-install 10.6 afterall if I can get sound working again. It is kinda fun being one of the first few running this and finding a few bugs etc. I hope I can contribute something of value to the rest of the Hackintosh 10.6 community.

BlackOSX,

I have followed your guide and successfully install Snow Leopard. I booted into 32bit mode for now, the system seems to be fine. I am writing this message in 10.6 :).

I am impressed with how smooth the installation went. Although its probably premature to say it, bit I expected some KPs here and there, but natta.. zip!. Also, my HDD is so quite. I noticed that in Leopard, there was constant HDD thrashing whenever I do something.

Now I need to install some applications and configure QuickSilver ..

Thanks a lot for your guide.. I'll report back further once I find out something interesting...

Ditto, the new guide link is not working...

Meanwhile, two things:

1. This exact same procedure works to install SL Server! Screenshot attached if you are curious.

2. I found that the source of my last remaining KPs and inability to run in 64bit was IOAHCIBlockStorageInjector.kext. Take it out of extra/extensions and everything works great, no KPs at all.

I am puzzled, because this kext seems to not be mentioned much in this thread as being a source of problems. Although, to those who were getting panics right at startup only in 64 bit on fsck_hfs, I can state for a fact that this kext causes that problem on my system.

This same kext prevented time machine from running properly in 32 bit mode. I just grabbed a fresh copy and verified it was not a corrupt file which I had been using.

I believe IOAHCIBlockStorageInjector.kext is only cosmetic and just stops your volumes from being the orange icon for external volumes, yes?

Any insight welcome on the IOAHCI thing, but for now SL both workstation and server are totally stable for me. Thanks blackosx!

The kext in question runs without any problem on my GA P35 DS4 install.
