i jsut installed a succesfull fresh install from usb disk, did u boot in -x32 into the installer, cus that seems to be important.

 

Yes, I think so. I have included com.apple.boot.plist for 32 bits installer. I think it's OK. Isn`t it?

 

Just in case I bypass my first shown problem, I have understood I should afterwards install chameleon on cham partition. But all these must be done in leopard 10.5.8 system. Only think I don't understand by now is what is the difference between USB and the other method. It seems to be the same.

 

I want additionally comment something strange for me. Apparently blackosx and myself have got same BIOS F10 but here I have seen some differences, but I don't know if they are important.

as long a boot is at the root of your install USB it should work. As the picture I have at the bottom of page 4 of mu v2.0 install guide. (or the completed image on page 5)

 

I'm starting to run outta ideas now. Does boot need to have it's own permissions? I can see it visible when I browse the install disc along with Extra, Library and usr. That's the root of the volume right? I have no idea why it keeps KPing...

Hi, robotfactory. It is very simple. You should do it with Terminal. I suspect you are trying to copy it directly to chameleon's root.

 

In Terminal, as it is described in blackosx's guide, you should write down following:

 

cd (then a space) then drag the ‘Netkas' boot v10.1 - Add to root of Cham Volume’ folder to the Terminal

mv -f boot /Volumes/Cham/

booted in to SL with no issues at all, however, there are no hard drive icons at all, and in finder, my hard drives show up as external.

 

i know that i have read other threads with other install methods having this issue, but i have not read about anyone here having this issue.

 

has anyone had this issue, if so, is there a known fix for it?

Tried installing from usb (without the smbios.plist, platformuuid.kext [even tried without dsdt.aml]) and from IDE drive, both give me a kernel panic

 

Gonna install it with the osinstall.mpkg-way, then I'll fix permissions with the installer-usb-stick. Hope that'll work out finally, spending 3 days already to get this kittie to work

I take it from your first post masa has helped you get it working? (Well done masa - how did you guess that?)

But then you have another post about a failed install.... Did you have it working then try installing again but it failed?

Yes, patience is required while you try get it sorted...

For the USB install I added the SMBIOS and PlatformUUID.kext because I had them to hand.

With regard to your DSDT.aml file being shown as a document file rather than a Unix executable file, it should still work.

Yes, your BIOS and my BIOS pictures differ, but I think that's down to the CPU. Mine doesn't support virtualisation.

Installing from USB gives a clean system. Installing from 10.5.X using the OSInstall.mpkg method always installs SL with errors and then needs patching, fixing etc.

And your orange icons will be fixed when you add IOAHCIBlockStorageInjector.kext to /E/E

I have followed both of your guides;SL install and DSDT. I have a few questions;

 

RE: DSDT creation & edit

 

Page 3 - If the DSDT does use HDEF... Do I simply copy and paste the DSDT.aml into the Cham /Extra folder or do I need a special installer? AND also for the LegacyHDA Kext, do I need to use a kext installer or just copy & paste in the Cham /Extra/Extensions folder?

 

Page 4 - How would I put the DSDT.aml at my root system partition. I have it in the cham /Extra folder now, is there a preference? Is it supposed to go in the cham partition or snow leopard partition?

 

If I'm starting off with a fresh DSDT.aml created using ACPI do I still need to do the steps listed on page 4 under "All you need to do know is a final bit of work"... including rebuilding Extensions.mkext?

 

If yes, how do I rebuild Extensions.mkext?

 

Page 5 - CMOS fix - your pictorial and description isn't clear if I have to change both 4's to 2's or just 1 of them. Please clarify.

Page 13 - Cham's /Extra folder should look something like this... The pictorial shows SMBIOS.plist in the /Extra/Extensions folder yet in your instructions you say to put it in the /Extra folder. Please clarify the proper folder for the SMBIOS.plist.

I am still struggling with x64, but have x86 (x32) working perfectly stable according to the steps in the guide. My only remaining problem is Time Machine backups start but hang on the processing changes stage and never complete.

 

Anyone else having TM problems?

 

Here's where I tell you all about my stupid mistake because I hope it will help someone. I had a ton of KPs initially and got several working installs that would KP after a random time. I discovered that my install disk image did _not_ have the correct MD5 sum. All my random KPs went away when I got a good image. So for those having trouble with random KPs, I would check that your image is good just to make sure. As blackosx posted earlier, the correct md5 sum should be:

Test your image with "md5 imagename.dmg" in terminal.

 

Once past the bad image problem, I setup the Cham partition, duplicated the install image to a HDD partition (which is what the original Apple developer release notes recommends plus I do not have a flash drive), booted to the DVD HDD partition using the cham partition, and installed to a different blank partition. Along with all of blackosx's kexts, and a dsdt.aml which I made from Gigabyte's original f10 BIOS files, I have everything working except graphics and TM.

 

I solved the graphics problem for a bios patched XFX Geforce 7950 GT 512 using an EFI string in com.apple.boot.plist which was hard to track down. EFI Studio does not have my card, and I was not making progress with the DSDT method which blackosx recommends (probably due to my newbness with DSDT). I know the graphics string is not related to this mainboard thread, but I had a hard time finding it so hope it helps 7950GT owners. KVKush is also confirmed to work in x32 mode but needs to be in the S/L/E folder not in Extra.

Yes, you can option-drag (copy) the DSDT.aml to /Cham/Extra.

LegacyHDA.kext again, option-drag (copy) to /Cham/Extra/Extensions.

 

Page 4 of DSDT guide reads.... • Add the DSDT.aml file to /Extra (Like you have in first option)

"All you need to do know is a final bit of work"... was written for users who followed this guide after following my 10.5.7 guide.

 

Page 5 of DSDT guide... Just change the number that is in RED. So make the the Length read 0x02.

 

Page 13 of Snow Leopard install guide...SMBIOS.plist is in /Extra (look at the indent)

But about 30secs after logging in I got kp'd, so I wanted to try an USB-installation, but it didn't work out (kernel panic about a minute after it starts copying). So I tried again...and again..and again. And now it works perfectly. No Kernel panic since 30 minutes, posting from 10.6 now.

 

All I gotta get to work now is graphics (9400GT is on it's way, yay!) and sound...won't work, somehow

VoodooHDA.kext is in /Extra, but nothing here...

I am happy you got it working too. It is so frustrating when it doesn't....

Netkas is the master at getting video cards working, but hopefully your 9400GT will slot straight in.

Sound?... that's annoying.. I know you won't want to hear this, but Keep playing with it and you will sort it.

Give DSDT.aml a go. It's not difficult to do, but it's just a bit trial and error to get right (it might take maybe 10 attempts)? I found it easier to write down each option as I made one so I knew what I had tried

You can always try fassl's DSDT patcher which is an OS X app, but I have never used it.

Followed the guide of blackosx. Everything is working

 

Intial kernel panic was due to AppleintelCPUmanagement kext. After removing this no more KP. Alos removed nullpower kext from extra folder

 

USB keyboard, mouse works

Sleep, restart shut down, perfect

time machine working

USB sound

After three days of installation hustling I'm now finally finished Sound works now flawlessly (using this kext from the 10.6 HCL). After so much struggling I'm fine with that way...

 

- Kitteh boots in record time (for me, about 20secs from hitting the power button)

- Sound works

- USB works

- Network works

- 64bit works without KPs - scratch that...kp'ed just now

 

 

Its. Just. Awesome

 

Only thing that doesn't work are screenshots...I hear the noise, but there are no images. Guess that's the missing gfx driver...

 

On to the application installing, change settings and so on! thanks blackosx and masma for the help. Without the GFX hint I'd probably still stuck at that damn smcplugin
