Snaptastic
Trying to install retail 10.5.6 dvd (burned copy on a dual layer writable disc) on an intel D945GCLF2 using method outlined here: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=138881 (I downloaded the D945GCLF2_driver_pack_v2.5.zip package) I boot from the boot132 cd, switch to the OSX dvd, and start up with the -v option. Booting appears to start as it should (text starts scrolling past on the screen), but it hangs before it gets to the graphical installer. (I don't have the details of exactly where it hangs right now, I will post them soon.) Setup is a 20gb IDE HD, Asus DRW-1814BLT and 2GB ram. The setup runs linux and windows fine. BIOS is set to manufacturer defaults. DVD is ok, it returns the correct md5sum when I google it. The only thing I can think of is that it doesn't like the DVD drive. I have tried it both plugged in directly using sata, and also using a sata to usb converter. Either way it seems to boot fine from the boot132 cd then hang once I boot from the OSX disc. This is my only dvd drive so I haven't been able to try another without buying one. I thought about using dd to put the OSX image onto a usb drive, but my 8gb flash drive is slightly too small. I have tried to find ahci in the bios to see if that would make a difference but I couldn't see anything relating to that. Other than that, the HD shouldn't matter, and the only other things plugged into it are a keyboard, mouse and monitor. Can anyone offer any ideas? Thanks in advance. Update: photo of screen where it hangs. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/178734-inte-d945gclf2-install-problems/ Share on other sites
Joe.R
Setup is a 20gb IDE HD, Asus DRW-1814BLT and 2GB ram. I think the IDE HD is the issue. Use a SATA drive. Snaptastic
Thanks for your reply, I will try that tonight and report back soon... (Just as an aside, why should it matter? I would have thought that if IDE was a problem, then it just wouldn't recognise the drive) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/178734-inte-d945gclf2-install-problems/#findComment-1221465 Share on other sites
Joe.R
Thanks for your reply, I will try that tonight and report back soon...(Just as an aside, why should it matter? I would have thought that if IDE was a problem, then it just wouldn't recognise the drive) OSX is finicky like that. Using legacy ports and IDE drives tend to be a headache. Stick with USB devices and SATA. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/178734-inte-d945gclf2-install-problems/#findComment-1221524 Share on other sites
Snaptastic
Well, I tried it with a 500GB sata laptop drive, no luck at all. I get exactly the same problem. That's with the DVD drive on both direct sata and with a usb-sata converter. I think I can get my hands on a different DVD drive, so i will see how that goes. Is there anything in the BIOS that should be switched on/off? Just used the board you have with a SATA HD and SATA DVD and everything installed. Snaptastic
Well, I tried it with a sony external dvd writer, and I get exactly the same problem. Where to from here? Double check that the dvd is ok I guess, otherwise I'm totally stumped. What brand of dvd drive did you use? Joe.R
Updated first post to show picture of screen where it hangs. Thats crazy. Are you using a retail Leopard disc? Snaptastic
Thats crazy. Are you using a retail Leopard disc? Yep, definitely a retail leopard disc (and definitely driving me crazy!). I made a copy of a retail 10.5.6 disc using dvd decrypter, and wrote it to a dual-layer dvd. The iso that I made had the correct checksum (I googled it), but I guess the disc could be corrupted (I will double check that). Snaptastic
Oh, and I'm using a dell usb keyboard and a microsoft optical mouse, but I would be really surprised if that mattered.
