It would be nice if you could install an icon on the menubar and autoload it so you can manage settings from a dropdown menu. Also, I've noticedit asks for admin pass each time you start it and it doesn't remember the settings last time were used (guess it doesn't write a plist). Thanks a lot for your efforts!! sonicbuddha Posted May 28, 2006 Share Posted May 28, 2006 My greatest frustration with ACPICPUThrottle and CPUThrottleCtrl is the lack of logging for the cpu changes. Only if you run CPUThrottleCtrl in the foreground with the -v flag will you get any idea of how your cpu is being stepped. I've tried running CPUThrottleCtrl with a redirect of standard out and standard error to a log with no luck. Ultimately, more than anything else, I'd like a menu bar indicator that worked with CPUThrottleCtrl or CPUThrottler that, at the very least, told me what speed my cpu was currently running at. This would put an enormous smile on my face and not force me to try and figure out how to reverse engineer CPUThrottleCtrl to produce reasonable logging options. Thanks! Ok my requests: 1- as the above poster said, a menu bar indicator of speed would be very helpful. At the very least (maybe as a temporary fix...) could you make it so when i leave the program open but close the window, i can still click the running app icon in the dock and have the window re-open? currently, if i want to change a setting once the window is closed, or see my cpu performance, i have to exit and restart the application, which is a little inconvenient. 2- Voltage settings: in windows, i'm used to a utility called rmclock, which allows you to adjust voltage settings as well as scaling levels, so instead of the 3 i have in throttler, i have like 15, each with their own voltage setting, with the lowest set to like .710 volts! This way, i have full performance with scaling at many levels (eliminating the need to jump to higher speeds when not that much power is needed, and the cpu stays cool even at top speed because the voltages are so low. I have had a crazy couple of weeks and have not had any time to work on the app. I have had a bit of time to look at voltage settings, and it seems like it would be doable with Intel chips at the vary least. Im sure it can be done with AMD as wll, i just havent looked into it yet. I would really like to do this through ACPI, but from eveyrthing i seem to read about it, it does not seem possible. So i will have to go the direct drive route. The menuItem is incoming (i have a non-compiling because of a few stupid errors version). I am so sorry it has taken so long, but RL sucks If only we could live in the virtual world.... Urby3- As stated above, the menuItem is incoming. However, the way I do it now is to do cmd-H....it will hide the application but keep it running in the dock. Better switching algorithm - it is not neccessary to switch from speed to speed the new algorothm can switch directly to the desired speed; 2. Better filter control - the moment pick in load do not lead to speed switch; 3. More precise switching according cpu load. private Posted August 10, 2006 Share Posted August 10, 2006 On my lappy with Turion ml-32 and Ati X200 the frequency steps only in 1600 and 1800 mhz. Is there possibilities to increase steps? In windows with rmclock I'm able to step 800-1000-1200-1400-1600-1800 mhz. Do u know if is possible to step the frequency voltage?
