Hi,

I just installed a P55M-UD2 board with a core i5 proc and it runs smoothly thanks to tonymacosx86 and his super guide ;)

I'm just having a little issue, the about this mac app just crashes all the time and the worse part is that it also quits the session and all the apps and then launches a new one.

Did anybody ever experienced that?

For the last while now I have been reading fellow Hackintoshers wanting to incorporate Speed Step and Turbo in their DSDTs. Most recently while on Tony's blog (keep up the awesome work!) I noticed the the link for Advanced-DSDT fixes: Enable Intel native speedstep on P55 Motherboards and it got me thinking again. I would like user feedback on native Intel Speedstep/Turbo WITHOUT ANY DSDT modifications. I can get native SS and Turbo on my UD3R by simple turning on the options in the BIOS, with the addition of HPET fix in my DSDT. I DO NOT need to inject ANY values in my DSDT to obtain SS or Turbo. You can check to see if your DSDT is working correctly by using the free application MSR Tools. In order for it to run, you must start up Snow Leopard in 32-Bit mode. Restart your computer, pause the Chameleon countdown and type arch=i386. Sure enough, MSR Tools reports the SS states AND Turbo values (2.83GHz x4, 2.93GHz x4, 3.33GHz x2, and 3.43GHz x1). iStat also clearly shows the cores throttling up (with the temperature going up); Sometimes I get 1 core @ 100% with the other idle, sometimes I get 2 @ 100%, and sometimes I get the full 4(/8 HT) @ 100%, all depending on the load I throw at it.

*Note oddly enough I can still run Geekbench64 in 32-bit boot mode and get the exact same score I do in 64-bit mode. In 10.6.1 Geekbench64 was crossed out and non-launchable. I know I am in 32-bit mode because in 64-bit, MSR Tools will not work properly (just a grey window).

In short, I suppose my question is have others experienced the same findings as me? For the sake of this thread, it would be extremely helpful to know if this is UD3R specific. As stated by Tony, messing around with SS values in your DSDT can be harmful. If this is unnecessary for some users that would be awesome. There are a few that have PM'd me (after reading my previous posts) and have stated like me that they need no DSDT SS/Turbo injection. It would have been great at the time if I logged what P55 mobo they were using, hence this post.

Hey all you fellow GA-P55M-UD2 owners- I just figured out the ALC 888b DSDT code to enable use with the 10.6.2 Vanilla AppleHDA.kext!

Could you perhaps post the steps you took to achieve this? I would love to use the Vanilla AppleHDA, as I am down to a mere 3 non-vanilla kexts; RealtekR1000SL, FakeSMC, my modified AppleHDA with embedded HDAEnabler.

P.S. I popped in a Vantec Firewire 400 card over the weekend. Oddly enough it shows up as built in vs PCI card. I have no Firewire values in my DSDT at all, so I am a little befuddled. Ah well. :tomato:

I too get proper SpeedStep and TurboBoost without putting anything in my DSDT. I have been advocating this for a while, and I've even asked around to see if there was some advantage I was missing in putting all the code in the DSDT as opposed to simply relying on my built-in SSDT. I have confirmed it to work with MSR Tools (32-bit) and PStateChanger with VoodooPState.kext (64-bit)

I'm using the P55M-UD2 (same as Tony).

Nobody seems to care, but the about this mac crash i had was fixed with a simple bios change. I Loaded the optimized defaults and then enabled AHCI again and now everything is working.

This is now a 100% working hackintosh and this is crazy how well it performs!

has somebody solved dual Monitor View with hd Radeon 4670?

No haven't found anything yet. I have a Sapphire 4670 and my hackintosh is pretty much perfect with the exception of not having extended desktop.

I've looked around and tried the different versions of bootloaders etc. what is interesting though is with some the output goes to HDMI or DVI and with the one I'm currently using (I think it's reksor's modified chameleon RC4 which doesn't require UUID) it outputs to VGA... it also detects the attached monitor properly. So essentially it is possible to send output through both connectors on a 4670... just that we don't have a boot file or kext that does both at the same time.

I would tinker around if I could, but a lot of this is way over my head. I managed to get my system up thanks to Tonymac's guide.

EDIT: You must update to the latest GA-P55M-UD2 bios (f7c) for this to work!

Sorry but I don't get it.

I have Snow Leopard retail DVD

I downloaded tonymacx86-P55BootCD.iso and I simply did what the install instructionss said:

# Download and unzip tonymacx86-P55BootCD.iso (Go to the end of this post for alternate Boot CDs for non-Gigabyte boards, and troublesome components.)

# Burn to CD.

# Restart computer with tonymacx86-P55BootCD

I used DiskUtility in OSX to burn the ISO.

It won't boot. There are no boot files in the root on the CD. The "Booot-CD" is identical to the ISO. Would somebody enlighten me if I have to configure the boot CD from the files in the ISO, I assume not as there's nothing written about it and otherwise it wouldn't probably be called P55BootCD.

EDIT: Finally I tried to just rip the files in the preboot.dmg and burn them on CD but there is no bootfile in that image either. So no go on the boot-CD.

Do I have to manually compile a CD-R out from the tonymacx86-P55BootCD.iso? If so, why is it an ISO?

I feel really stupid and I am really confused with my 25 years of computer experience but with no info written I may be in old school.

First there is an "Extra" folder in the root. in that Extra folder there's a folder named tonymacx86-snowleopard. And in that folder there is one more Extra folder and a Preboot.dmg. Opening up the Preboot.dmg there's another Extra folder. So please hint me on what to burn to get a bootable CD to be able to run Snow Leopard retail DVD.

Hi Bansaku,

I tried it without the _PR scopes in my DSDT but got Kernel panic at loading the InteCPUPowerManagement. I have the P55-UD4 with F5 BIOS. Perhaps I'm doing something wrong or I have the wrong boot loader.

My bootloader is the one referenced in tonymacs blog in "Tweaking Your System: Get Rid of Restart Kexts & New Chameleon RC4 Development"

I had a hard time to get my system back but i found a HDD with a working boot environment floating around :-D

I think that you need to also change some stuff in the bios like load optimized default, set the sata as AHCI and of course set the cd reader as the first boot device, that should work. That first step is the simpler one (even if the rest is quite easy too), but basically if you have the right board, inserting the cd is all you have to do.

anyones Core i5 hack kernel panicking when logging into websites? i seem to get sporadically and no panic logs are left. anyone know the cause or fix? maybe a USB fault?

Hello :D I often have an issue with Flash Player crashing in Safari more or less frequently. It also happens on my "real" Macs. Though I don´t get KPs as you do other system specifics might cause yours to KP. Thus my clue is to check your JAVA settings (helper Apps) and check whether you installed the latest updates to Safari. Check the webpages in question with another browser to find out whether the issue really is specific to the OS and not the APP!

thanks it seems it was a USB issue with the keyboard though. i had my Apple keyboard plugged into one of the third row of USB ports and moving it back to the second row seemed to fix it. maybe not all of my USB ports are fully functional? no panics while booted, for now!

Does someone know the difference between the Gigabyte GA-P55-UD3 et the GA-P55-UD3R (the UD3R is around $15 more expensive) .

Is the 2 MB has the same comptabilty with mac os (I have the impression that more people has the UD3R than the UD3) ?

I have the P55-UD4 and still got some problems:

1) sleep isn't working right now: it goes into sleep within 1 sec but when it wakes up the PC is restarted

DSDT dosen't match your bios version. Was also in my case so, until I create a new dsdt from current bios version and reboot gone.

Question: Does SATA CD/DVD drives now working on the Intel-SATA controller or is it still a problem ?

I wanted to confirm that the Xeon X3440 processor works perfectly on a Gigabyte UD2 mobo. For those who don't know, this is a 1156 socket chip like the 750 i5 and 860 i7. It is clocked at 2.53 but does have hyperthreading like the i7's. I picked this up at Ewiz a couple weeks ago on sale for $200, so it fits nicely between the i5 and i7. Benchmarks are getting around 8500 in 64 bit Geekbench at stock clocks. Here are my results.

I made an install on a intell p55 mobo with a core i5 750. (alternate neptunus PC(dutch brand))

Because no distro dit boot on my conputer(also with special p55 boot cd) i installed it from my laptop(acer aspire 5630) with the harddrive from my computer as a external harddrive. I used Iatkos v7 (iDeneb and kaliway didnt support installing on an external hard drive) and chose the following at customise:

  • Chameleon V2
  • /Extra
  • DSDT
  • DSMOS
  • 9.7.0 Kernel voodoo
  • APIC driver
  • Disabler
  • OHR
  • Remove TyMCE
  • AHCI
  • Intel SATA/IDE
  • JMicron SATA/IDE
  • Post Install Actions

At chameleon i entered busratio=20.(got it from this guide: http://tonymacx86.blogspot.com/2009/11/os-...e-for-p55.html)

When my system boots it stops at the folowing line:

AppleACPICPU: ProcessorApicid=16 LocalApicid=143 Disabled

before this line there were about 15 lines who looked like this one only some of them had Enabled in stead of Disabled

Does anyone know how to fix this problem?

I know my english is poor, i'm doing my very best!

Thanks a lot,

Florian

For those who want to know about the ASUS P7P55D series:

I've finally perfected my installation method using a USB boot drive, a Snow Leopard retail disk restored to USB, and the 10.6.2 kernel in place of the 10.6 followed by an upgrade to 10.6.2. I was able to get it working earlier, but the series of steps, trials, and errors were too diluted to make a coherent guide. Now I can get it running with just 5 kexts for the initial install but I am going to try one final time to see if I can get it working with 3 kexts.

The DSDT is the key. There are several incompatibilities but you can overcome them with hard coding. It took me a long time to figure out the USB setup but the traditional USB pattern doesn't apply since both Windows and SL only recognize 2 hubs and it totally doesn't match what is in the DSDT :( Credit to Bchemist for fixing the USB problem with the DSDT. Good job thinking outside of the box :) Now I'm in the process of gathering all of my notes and some video clips and I'll be posting it here.

The P7P55 series is very VERY fast and stable when overclocking. While I'm using a i7 870 all I need to do is adjust the block and I'm able to come within a few % of the dual Xeon's on most benchmarking tests. I wish my little water cooler had nitrogen :)

So for those wondering, ASUS can work as well or better than the other systems. But Gigabytes are a bit friendlier for beginners. Actually I'll have a guide for my other board also :) Keep an eye out for it.

EDIT: The 3 kext install works but it's now 4am so I'll have to start my guide tomorrow :) Speedstep is working with MSR tools showing 1.74 Ghz at idle on my i7-870 at...I can barely believe what my Hardware monitor is saying...28, 30, and 30C with the rest shut off!

I used Tonymac's install method on pg 15 plus a few extra steps to setup my RAID 0 (which is extremely fast by the way  .) You basically need to copy a retail SL disc over to a flash drive, install Chameleon and patch it for i5 support. Have not had a chance to test the optical audio yet but will try when I get a chance.

Hi,

Could you please post how you enabled RAID 0 on your Hackintosh? Is this RAID 0 a Hardware RAID enabled via the P55-UD2 MoBo or a software RAID enabled via the OS X Disc Utility?

Thanks,

Bruno

I double checked my user manual before replying here. The Gigabyte raid is a software enabled raid that requires drivers for Windows XP. Therefore the only hardware RAID that will work are PCI or PCIE card based RAID. The mobo-based RAID will not work in OSX due to not being compatible with the XP drivers. Unless I'm all hosed up he's talking about disk utility.

Hope this helps :(
