I'm sure I can get sleep working, I just haven't had time to mess with it - very busy these days.

 

I can't comment on the video card issue. My computer simply restarts after sleep. No strange colors here.

 

I'll update after I do more testing, but it might be a few days. For now, I'm happy that it is working great... except for sleep.

You do not need sleepenabler or NullCPUPowerManagment as long as you use the DSDT from Tony's page. I was having problems with sleep till I updated my bios to 1.5.

Fixes for error messages in system.log

1. For launchctl: Couldn't stat("/etc/mach_init_per_user.d"): No such file or directory

 

Open Terminal and type

defaults write com.apple.Finder AppleShowAllFiles YES

press Enter and then relaunch Finder

Navigate to /etc

Find the folder mach_init_per_login_session.d and drag it to the Desktop (it will be copied)

Rename it to mach_init_per_user.d and drag it back to /etc (you'll have to authenticate)

In Terminal type

defaults write com.apple.Finder AppleShowAllFiles NO

press Enter and then relaunch Finder.

I had to install them both to /S/L/E, *not* /Extra and I used the DSDT in Tony's database. I now have sleep and functioning audio! I haven't confirmed whether the digital/optical outs work, but I should have time to test that some time this week.

If you have a computer that can burn an ISO file (windows can but it may need additional software), then you can use Empire EFI, which allows you to download a small file to burn to a CD.

 

Then you boot from that CD, eject and insert a retail 10.6 disk, and continue with the Installation.

After intall, you put back in the EmpireEFI disk and use it to boot the HDD you just installed onto.

 

It is very easy. And the EmpireEFI disk has a package installer on it called myHack to allow you to boot without the disk.

 

 

If you get a waiting for root device with EmpireEFI (assuming you're using the right one) then there is something wront with either your BIOS setup, your BIOS itself (check for update), your optical drive/hdd's bus (meaning try a different SATA header), or your media itself is f'ed up (try reburning it).

 

When you say "which works, until I get a still waiting for root device error", do you mean to say you get to the chameleon bootloader screen, wait a min, switch the disk out for a retail installer, pressF5, and select your installer disk THEN get the waiting for rood device error??

 

I did update the Bios, what do you mean by different header? if you mean on the mobo, i tried sata 0 and 1. any thoughts on what I should change in the Bios itself (settings)

I can do that when I go home tonight but my DSDT file is the one in Tony's database. The scores I posted are 64bit scores, the 32bit scores are 8100-8400.

 

I have noticed that sometimes the motherboard resets the CPU multiplier to 15x (2.0GHz) and everything slows to a crawl. Make sure that your CPU multiplier is set to 21x in the BIOS.

I've checked the BIOS, and I'm definitely running at 21x. I'm also telling Chameleon to boot with "busratio=21 cpus=1". About this Mac says I'm a 2.93 GHz Xeon. So my crappy scores are really mystifying.

2. I have a 10.6.0 disk and was looking into patching it to a 10.6.2 (so the drivers/kext for 4670 would hopefully be present as wells as P55, i5 750 etc). For Windows, I'm use to "slipstreaming" the service packs into a Windows Install disk image, but I couldn't find something like that for Mac. The closest thing I've found is NetInstall and System Image Utility from Apple. I used my disk to make an image and I think I've patched it with the 10.6.2 combo update. I get a disk image that seems bigger (7.2gb), but of course not having built my hackintosh yet, I have no idea whether this works. I haven't seen this mentioned anywhere so I thought perhaps knowledgeable folk might be kind enough to tell me why this would not work... I'm just thinking that this way I'll have a OS that is built to work with Intel i5, P55 and ATI 4670 thus increasing my chances of success.

Just posted a new Retail DVD Installation method using Chameleon Boot CD. This method is the simplest yet- you don't need access to any Mac/Hackintosh to install or to replace files. Just simply download the .iso, burn it, boot with it, swap it out for the Retail DVD, and install Mac OS X! I included all of the files from tonymacx86-snowleopard as standard for the boot CD. Definitely that's your problem- I never was able to do the Chameleon Boot CD using an IDE drive- just got my new SATA Optiarc DVD burner, and it just worked.

Tony, i'm trying to do the same thing, except i'm using a p55a ud4p

 

I used Empire EFI and was able to swap in the retail disk and boot but I got a still waiting for root device error when I was in IDE mode and ACHI mode

 

I tried yours and it just continually reboots. I tried it in ACHI mode and IDE mode, and neither worked.

Wish it would work on IDE drives, but it doesn't- believe me- I've tried! I'd recommend the USB method then- either the original one or the Alternate Guide on my site. I may roll a few versions of it with different DSDTs- when you get installed, send me your DSDT for the Database- I don't have any P55A yet.

Yes. The easiest way to install Snow Leopard is to do so from an active OS X install. I recommend iDeneb Lite 10.5.8 V1.6 as it is more generic with the kexts and it has Qoopz Kernel 9.8 which is needed for the i5/i7 as well as the Chameleon 2 bootloader. Make sure you boot with busratio=20 boot flag.

 

 

 

 

Easiest way is what I just described.

 

Read my post at the top of the page to instal Snow leopard once iDeneb is installed.

 

Disregard this folks. True as it may be, installing OSX SL easiest when you have a working install of OS X Leopard. However, I failed to realize that after installing SL unless you are doing so from a SL install, you cannot run the 10.6.2 Combo update in 10.5.8. I have a b/u of 10.6.2 on another drive, hence why I find it super fast and easy to install OSX SL from the MacOSXInstall Data folder. Plus I have a real Mac, which makes things a hell of alot easier. Forgive me if I confused or wasted your time. Ah well, late night posts may cause blonde moments.

Did you get that while booting the CD or while trying to boot Leopard? If you got the install done and you get 'waiting for root device' trying to get into Leopard, you may try booting with -s, type fsck -fy, then type exit. Then when you get to the desktop, repair permissions.

I have an ATI 4670 running on a UD3R board, with no problems. I chose this card as there is a passively cooled version and no addit. power requirements (takes power from PCI-E slot).

 

For installation I followed tonymacx86's Alternate Guide #1, installing 10.6.0 and then combo 10.6.2 (using tonymacx86's original install guide for P55 boards I got a corrupt display when booting off the USB stick):

With this install guide everything that I've tried works using:

- UD3R DSDT from tonymacx86 database

- E/E kexts EvOreboot, fakesmc, PlatformUUID

- post install kexts RealtekR1000SL, AppleHDA, HDAEnabler (latter 2 from Bansaku's post on page 37)

 

(very stable, only thing not working is audio through headphone socket on front of case)

Thanks for the reply. Makes me more confident of build. Could you tell me what brand of ATI 4670 you are using? Is it the Sapphire 4670 Ultimate? It's the only passively cooled 4670 that I've seen so far. I'm looking at this board too, but don't think it's being sold anymore.

 

Can you confirm that all the ports of your video card are functioning i.e. VGA, DVI and HDMI? No need for plugging something into HDMI to get the VGA port to work, and dual monitor possible?

Since the Marvel chipset is not part of the P55 and is also very new, I suspect you have not loaded appropriate kexts for the marvel chipset. Does anyone know what he should use for the SATA 3.0 kexts or if one is needed?

 

Otherwise, you might wish to use the SATA 2.0 headers which are tied to the P55 to get your system running.

Umm... somewhere in this thread is the recommendation to boot like that for a UD4P and an i7 860. I was under the impression that cpus=1 means physical CPUs, as Mac Pros can have more than one. I'm guessing you don't tell Chameleon to boot with that?

Fortunately for you: no it isn't the number of physical processors ,

cpus=n means the number of cores in your cpus, so i5 and i7 both have 4 physical cores (for now we won't talk about hyperthreading).

 

Once your setup (installation+Extra folder and other parameters) is ok, you should remove that line,

and test again with Geekbench, probably good surprise
