Yep, I used the boot file you supplied with your download. It's interesting, idk if it's suppose to happen but geekbench lists my CPU and speed correctly but it's displaying

Processors:0

Threads:1

Cores:1

Weird- looks like you only have 1 core enabled. Did you by chance use the boot flag cpus=1?

Don't I feel silly now. I had completely forgotten I had used cpu=1. I also used busratio=21 because it seemed like the only option to get my system to boot on a p55 ud4p in 10.6.0 . I've removed the flags. :(

Geekbench gives me a 8769 now, is that decent?

Hey everyone- just posted an Alternate guide to installing Snow Leopard that is not system-specific. Instead of using the USB installer, it installs directly- I know a few of you were successful with this method, and I've now tested it. Also, you install the 10.6.2 update before booting- therefore no need for Voodoo kernels anymore. It will probably work for any computer that can run the Snow Leopard Vanilla kernel, not just P55 boards.

Also a DSDT editing guide.

Thanks to everyone in this thread for being so supportive! I'm having a blast writing this stuff up. :)

Hi Tony,

Do you mean that your alternate guide will work perfectly with an asus p7p55d?

Thanks and keep the good work!

No guarantees, but it would be specific to your system as it involves creating your own custom DSDT. I'm working on a guide now that involves a Chameleon CD-boot- it will be the simplest yet. :)

Hello,

My hardware:

MB: Gigabyte GA-P55A-UD4 (F4)

CPU: Intel i7 860

RAM: 4Gb 1333MHz

Video: XFX Radeon HD4870 512Mb

I tried tony's "Alternate Guide"

http://tonymacx86.blogspot.com/2009/11/alt...ow-leopard.html

but failed :)

With DSDT.aml GA-P55M-UD2, I can't use internal SATA;

"SerialATAPI initial device configuration did not complete successfully . (failedCommandInfo = 0x2)"

I connect HDD through eSATA and boot successfully, but I can't see internal sata drive.

Without DSDT.aml, following message appear;

"ACPI_SMC_PlatformPlugin::start - waitForService(resourceMatching( AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement) timed out"

Please help!

^ i had the same error when booting from my 10.6.0 Snow Leopard volume. cpus=1 at the Chameleon boot loader got passed it, but now hangs on

virtual bool IOHIDEventSystemUserClient::initWithTask(task*, void*, UInt32): Client task not privileged to open IOHIDSytem for mapping memory

anyone know how to get passed this so i can boot into 10.6.0 and update to vanilla 10.6.2?

i used tonymacx86's Retail P55 Guide on my Core i5 with GA-P55-UD4P and 4870 1GB. is this a DSDT.aml error or do i need a different kext for my 4870? thanks

also i have a few generic queries from my brief hackintosh install experiance if anyone can answer them:

  • why when i boot the USB installer from tony's guide in IDE mode it boots quite quickly, however in AHCI mode it took about 8 mins?
  • when i have Snow Leopard installed, how do i access the Chameolon boot loader without a USB plugged in all the time so i can dual boot with Windows 7?

I have a P55-UD4P too, I used Tony's Snow Retail Guide. Trying booting with busratio=21 cpus=1. You can remove these flags once you've updated to 10.6.2

By the way, be sure to follow what grncdr psoted back in post #508. After that, continue with Tony's Step 10 in his Snow Leopard guide.

Thanks for your help ... But it didn´t work -.-

I follow everything in tony´s guide .. But nothing works.

Bios is in AHCI.

I bootet with: -x busratio=21 cpus=1 -v

When I start the pc and load the EFI with snowleoaprd , i get kernel panic and the Pc shuts down. Than i restarted my PC and my bios was resettet. All the saved condiguration´s are lost.

Someone who has installed snowleopard on GA- P55 UD4 could help me ?^^

It would be great  Thanks

EDIT:

what kext do you have in Extra ? Have you used EFI or Chamelon2.0 RC 3 ?

Wow! Great GB score... How was the overclocking of the i7? What cooler are you using? What did you have to set/raise?

For the moment I only have the stock cooler. When booting in OSX under 3,86 GHZ temp of CPu cores was 62 C, when starting geekbench temp went up to 94 C after test I set te cpu back to 2,8 GHz then I have a temp of 40 C.

I just played with the OC settings in BIOS.

I'm looking for a nice cooler that is not to big.

I only used what Tony provided, nothing else except for the sound but that was after I had SL completely installed. Make sure your hard drives are connected to the gray SATA port , not the blue ones. I also found out that if I had anything connected to the blue ports my computer would not boot. This was in 16.0.0, I have yet to try it on 16.2.0.

If that fails, it might me that you'll have yet to copy the extra folder, boot and DSDT file to your SL disk after it has finished installing SL. You can do this via terminal(unfamiliar with the commands though) or if you have another working OS(I used Windows 7 with Macdrive 8 to see HFS+ disks) you can manual copy the Extra, boot and DSDT files.

I have my Sata port connected to the gray...

Here is that what i did:

first I boot up with my ideneb on extern HDD. Than i installed SL to my First SATA HDD. Than I installed PC EFI to SL. Than i deleted the boot and the mach_kernel. After that i put the files from tony. Without the Dsdt , because i have another motherboard...

Than i shut my pc down. And started it with busratio=21 cpus=1

And It does not work ...

Hey Icestorm I have the same mobo like you and can say that Tony's guide with the USB stick worked for me. The dsdt.aml file is fine, too. What graphics card are you using? (by the way, I'm german, too, if you like you can send me a PM ;) ) the only thing that didn't work for me were graphics (I use a Radeon 4890, the newer boot file fixed the ATI boot issue) and sound but now I got that working, too ;)

Like profdre has mentioned ^, use the DSDT. I also have the exact MB as you (Gigabyte P55-UD4P) and Tonymac's DSDT hasn't caused any problems. In fact, I think it actually helped.

Just curious when you say you deleted the mach_kernel and boot file, you did replace them AFTER the SL installation with the kernel found under "Qoopz Voodoo kernel for 10.6.0 & 10.6.1" folder and the boot file provided by Tony correct? If none of that works, I'm sorry but I have no idea what you could be doing wrong. Could you maybe post a picture of your current BIOS settings so I can take a look at it.(Only the page with the AHCI mode option.)

I can report a complete Vanilla installation with the Gigabyte P55-UD4P though.

You are able to get a stable machine with an over 1Ghz overclock on Intel's STOCK COOLER?

How the heck did you do that?!?! How much did you raise the voltages?!?! I have NEVER heard of such an excellent overclock on an already powerful CPU, all whilst using a reputably bad stock cooler... not even most Pentiums can do that, and they are practically underclocked to begin with.

Totally jealous!

^ its easy, you just change the bus speed with the 20x multiplier, which is in this case 193 MHz (3860 MHz/20). although its advisable you get a better cooler as it would get quite hot with the stock cooler and probably go over the thermal spec on load.

thanks ive tried busratio=21 cpus=1 and it gets past the AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement timed out error but still hangs on the same error in my last post. Googling around seems to indicate this may be becuase of my 4870 but i cant find a posted fix. do i need a different DSDT or 4800 kext?

also anyone know why the installer boots up so much quicker in IDE mode compared to AHCI mode? does this mean it will boot slower when installed?

Try booting with -x ( for video) as well.

So:

-x busratio=21 cpus=1 -v

Thanks for the work,

you give pretty useful informations...by the way still looking for musicians with the p7p55d who could tell me how they're doing with their setup. I've my system at home and I'll begin my installation of snow leopard. since it's my first time, could someone tell me where to look for my initiation ? for example do I have to install a dual boot with windows for example ??

Thanks a lot to everyone here.

I got Snow Leopard 10.6.2 installed. Follow TonyMac Guide, but use DSDT.aml from iATKOS v7. I still have problem with the onboard sound system, though.

Hi,

I'm at work for the moment, but when i'm home I will try to do it again and take notes and a picture on what i changed in the bios.

Like I said before, I did this only for a short time because cpu temp was 60C after booting osx and went tp 94C when running geekbench.

Regards,

P
