Treky
One odd thing is that even once I've installed it internally my HDD is listed in Disk Utility as being external in my Hackintosh. Not sure if that's normal or if it matters. We have all this problem. (Or has someone a solution ?) It is more a cosmetic problem. I hope this will be fixed with next Mac OS X update, when i7 Imacs and the other macs use the same OS. I have only 1 HDD, it uses GUID, and I'm only trying to install OSX. Windows will come later once OSX is running smoothly (should that be on a separate drive, or is a same drive install OK?). I don't think you will be able to install Windows on a GUID partitioned HDD, so second drive will be needed. Will all of this be a lot easier once we have the files from an i7 iMac? I don't think that this make it lot easier. But the external drive problem, sleep problem and AppleIntelCPUPM problem are maybe easier fixable or go alone. To your boot problem: Download the chameleon 2.0RC3 package (link is forbidden by this forum, sorry) expand it and go to the I386 folder of chameleon package in terminal. Instruction: 1st open Terminal (you can find it in spotlight) 2nd insert following and press return (and accept with your password): "sudo -s" 3th insert: "cd" and press space key 4th search the I386 folder in chameleon package with finder 5th take that folder by mouse and move in Terminal window and press return in Terminal 6th type ls and look whether you see a boot1h file. (if not you made something wrong) 7th type: "diskutil list" 8th look for the diskname of your Mac OS X install partition (if you have only one partition created, it will be probably disk0s2 9th type: "dd if=boot1h of=/dev/rdisk0s2" (0s2 must maybe replaced with your real disk where Mac OS X is installed) 10th type: "cd /" 11th type: "ls" 12th look in output for a filename "boot" If no "boot" is listed, get it here: PC-EFI boot Expand boot.zip and copy it to / (directly on Macintosh HD) That is all. You should get at least a boot1 error, or no one, I hope.
rekursor
My motherboard is MSI P55-GD65, Kents: EvOreboot, Fakesmc, NullCPUPower Management, and the new SleepEnable. I am running the vanilla kernal. Could someone please try to run sleep with one stick of ram and report your findings? I really do not have the knowledge to go any further with this. I hope maybe someone with more knowhow can finger this out. Thanks. Thanks for this interesting info, on my GA-P55-UD3r, I tried using only one 2G DDR3 memory module without any success (at least in 64 bit mode) But it is still very interesting that it works in this config. for you, also I had a look to the memory config in the system profiler, it looks fine to me on my mobo, so I believe it is MB specific (?). lectrcman
Well, after doing an install with the new method of hooking my HD to my iMac in an inclosure and installing Snow Leopard on it from the iMac and then installing the 10.6.2 update and finally Chameleon, I am now running 10.6.2 on my i7. But I can't seem to edit the DSDT as I get the following error message: Intel ACPI Component Architecture ASL Optimizing Compiler version 20090730 [Aug 12 2009] Copyright © 2000 - 2009 Intel Corporation Supports ACPI Specification Revision 4.0 /Library/Application Support/EvOSoftware/DSDT/DSDTFiles/dsdt.dsl 251: Method (\_WAK, 1, NotSerialized) Warning 1080 - Reserved method must return a value ^ (_WAK) /Library/Application Support/EvOSoftware/DSDT/DSDTFiles/dsdt.dsl 310: Store (Local0, Local0) Error 4050 - Method local variable is not initialized ^ (Local0) /Library/Application Support/EvOSoftware/DSDT/DSDTFiles/dsdt.dsl 315: Store (Local0, Local0) Error 4050 - Method local variable is not initialized ^ (Local0) ASL Input: /Library/Application Support/EvOSoftware/DSDT/DSDTFiles/dsdt.dsl - 7397 lines, 254308 bytes, 3262 keywords Compilation complete. 2 Errors, 1 Warnings, 0 Remarks, 985 Optimizations Also I have no sound in the ALC889A and if I leave it setting and it goes to sleep I can't wake it. So far that appears to be the big issues. It shows my processor as 2.06 Ghz unknown. I'm so stoked that it actually boots now that I took a break to calm my nerves before diving back in. Anyone know how to fix any of these issues just LMK. Thanks

Yes I am in 64bit. I have the one stick in the second of the four slots. I was hoping that this would be the key to get it working correctly. I had my system asleep for 1 hr and it woke perfectly, with the one stick. If there is anything you need from my system (DSDT maybe) let me know. I did not mod my DSDT an anyway, I just extracted it and put it in the extra folder. No bios reset at all, I am using a total of 6 kents: EvOreboot, fakesmc, NullCPUPowererManagement, SleepEnabler and in the system/libary/extensions I have VoodooHDA and ReltekR1000SL and that it. With the one stick of ram the system will sleep, reboot and power down every time, the system displays every thing correctly in system profiler. This MSI board seems to be very OSX compatible. Treky
I did everything here, but I got the same result as before. I really appreciate the effort though - thanks! Than you are maybe out of luck. I don't know too why this bootloader sometimes work and sometimes not. It seems you must repartition and format your HDD again and install it on fresh formatted HDD at first only the boot loader. So I would everyone suggest to install the bootloader at first and try it out whether it really work, before installing the OS to HDD. I had problems too with that bootloader, if the drives hold already the OS and was not fresh partitioned. You can try all this steps again posted on this blog, when you are in your chameleon I386 folder google "How to Install Chameleon 2.0 RC1" and take first entry. (external links are forbidden) The first guide is the interesting for you, except step 7. Your HDD controller is really set to AHCI ? Not to RAID (XHD) or so in BIOS ? Here is explained how to set a partition as active.set partiton active I thought chameleon scan all partitions but maybe not. So set your partition to active where Mac OS X is installed. You will recognize it on the big space between start and end cyl in list. I suggest you to work from last to beginning. If nothing help, you must install bootloader on fresh formatted drive. YoYelloW
Iam as many others looking into upgrading my system to a i5/i7 system, looking at theud2 its just the right board, has all i need and nothing more, 2 things im still considering, should i get a 750 or a 860, i know the i5 is perfect, but that extra power from teh i7 looks tempting, is there ANY difference between the 2 i support? im hearing alot of good stuff about the i5, but deos that go for the i7 as well? also im looking into getting 1600mhz ram, or should i get 1333 ones, they are afterall cheaper

TomasCZ
Thank you very much tonymacx86 and Chanelius I have good new, my system is working, I'm not in the end of all tests, but these parts are ok: - graphic card acceleration - OK - sound - OK - all 8 CPU cores are visible in Activity monitor - RAM freq. is OK in the system profiler - 1333MHz I have tried to run Geekbench and I have 9211 in 64bit mode. I will test disk speeds and other tests but as first, I will make a backup of working partition I used the 1st method, not faster 2nd, because there was the problem to run upgrade of Snow Leopard to other than running system (I have tried it under Macbook pro 2,26 13", OSX 10.5.8) I have tried both tricks in the manual to solve this problem without sucess , but 1st method is ok. For sucessfully bootup the 10.6 before upgrade to 10.6.2 It was necessary to replace the 10.6.0 kernel with the one from 10.6.2 before upgrade, because the system cannot boot up. I'm using the SATA2USB convertor, so files modifications of SL instalation from my macbook are not problem. BIOS settings are in defaults except SATA (must be in AHCI mode) OSX 10.6.2 4x2 GB KINGSTON ddr3-1333mhz-cl7 GIGABYTE N98TSL-1GI-NVIDIA GeForce 9800GT passive GIGABYTE P55M UD2 INTEL Core i7-860 2,80GHz + ARCTIC Freezer Xtreme Rev.2 (I still have the box, I will install this one later), box is the most loud component in the case now... 1x SAMSUNG SpinPoint F3 500GB, 1x SAMSUNG SpinPoint F1 1000GB SEASONIC SS-650HT Energy 80-Plus AKASA OMEGA case ....
