fanboy#1
Hi all, Well after a month or so of installing my first OSX (10.4.5, courtesy of the now infamous maxxus) and following np_'s every move with releasing new Nvidia Drivers, and finally getting one that worked (Beta2, thanks np_, for all your hard work) I've decided to throw in the towel. That's right I joined the dark side. Yep I sold my Sony VAIO and bought me a mac. A sweet sweet mac. Now everything works out of the box, and the hardware is so much better. So thanks everyone for your help and hard work, but in the end I decided that running OSX was more than just the software, it was the hardware experience as well. You plug it in, and it works out of the box. No hassles. And that's exactly what I now have. I know some of you have great PCs that you've spent oodles of noodles on, and don't want to part with them, but for me, it's mac all the way from here. I'm not even going to Boot Camp. No more Windows for me either! Anyway, thanks for all your help and hard work, but now I'm outta here Signing off...fanboy#1 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/17558-i-give-up/ Share on other sites
Jeezoflip
Well...thats the problem with this whole project. Its not a Mac. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/17558-i-give-up/#findComment-113421 Share on other sites
Deviant0ne
But that's what makes it fun... None of this would be nearly as entertaining (IMO) if this was the way it was meant to be from the begining. It may have been mildly interesting to run OS X out of the box on an X86 platform for the last ten years, and I'm sure Windows would be much diffrent in an attempt to keep up with the competition (if it were around at all), but saying it couldn't be done then finding a way to do it is far more interesting. Not only that, but always having something to improve upon is just fun. If I could afford a Mac, I probably would invest, but I'm loving this project and the people within this community who helped make this all possible. Proteo
But that's what makes it fun... And that's what makes it cheap. Some of us simply don't have 1,600 bucks for a new machine... yet. DrivinWest
Congrats on the new machine! Ever since I purchased a 12" PowerBook G4 last summer I've been a happy, happy OS X user. When it came time to upgrade my PC, I went with one conducive to running OS X. It's been fun, and I continue to enjoy doing that which you're not supposed to be able to do, but perhaps a REAL Mac would have been a better purchase overall. Once people figured out that one could run OS X on PCs there were quite a few who touted the end of Apple hardware. The opposite seems to have occured; people have tried OS X on PC hardware, come to love the operating system, but bemoaned the fact that as good as it may run it doesn't run as well as it could on Apple hardware. Plenty of people on here have gone off and bought Macs. I know I'll buy one as I've come to love OS X on the desktop (rather than just my laptop which I do do very different things with). bigboss
the only reason i still use windows is because atleast i have graphics acceleration.. but once np_ gets nvidia drivers working so that my gfx card has full qe/ci/opengl support, its bye bye windows (atleast maybe till vista). no, i dont see anything wrong with windows xp (im a fairly big windows supporter) but i just happen to like the workflow more on os x but i dont see why people complain so much about getting viruses with windows. ive been working w/ nt, 95, 98 (BLOAT!), 2000, and XP and I have only had a handful of viruses (mainly from email attachments) but my AV email scanner just deleted the messages. if people are stupid enough to use ie on the lowest settings and surf porn/warez sites or use p2p (i torrent and i dont get viruses!) software, they deserve the viruses they'll get! XP is good but is like and old car compared to Tiger. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/17558-i-give-up/#findComment-122922 Share on other sites
dripple
That's right I joined the dark side. This is not the dark side, my friend: welcome to the light! I think there are two types of user here. The ones who like the play with a different OS and the other ones who really like a Mac and want to own one. Since I started with a Mac in the early 90's, I'm very happy with my recently bought PowerBook. And yes, I sold my Windows-PC. It feels good. ;-) dripple Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/17558-i-give-up/#findComment-122928 Share on other sites
