ghostcake
Well, after much effort I have run into an issue that I definitely need help with. First of course, my specs: - Nvidia Gforce 8800gt Alpha Dog edition (512mb) - P5N-D motherboard - 4 gig, corsair 800mhz ram (5, 5, 5, 12) - Seagate 7200.7 SATA (200gb) - Core 2 Duo E8400 (3.0 Mhz), stock clock I went through and installed ipc 10.5.6. on a 7200.7 Seagate SATA drive (200gb). The install went well. I installed NforceLan 63.12 post-install, to get my Ethernet working. During the installation I installed no kernel (vanilla default), no video driver (installed geforce 8800gt 512mb EFI post-install), AppleNforceATA for my chipset, and ALC883 for audio. For fixes/patches - ACPI, Shutdown/Restart Fix, DSDT w/ new HPET, SMBios Mac pro, and all the apps except AMD utilities. A few problems arose immediatly, my display was showing some graphical tearing (black and/or white lines on the screen that would appear and dissapear due to the movement of windows, right click highlight, etc). Also, seemingly at random times (although it seemed to freeze only when I was installing or opening something) all devices would stop responding, and although I would see movement (for example, the installer bar would still be graphically moving but the install itself would not continue or complete at any point) no progress was being made and the computer was not responding to any user input. Does anyone have suggestions or fixes for these issues, or is anyone experiencing similar issues? Any pointers would be very appreciated as I am just getting into the deep dark hole of OSx86. Thanks! - ghostcake. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/173592-p5n-d-and-ipc-1056-issues/ Share on other sites
Matthew L.
I've had the same strange freezing problem on my system, too. It was caused by a torrent client named Transmission, it's always made my (and a lot of real Mac users') OS X go mad. (Symptoms were the same: on-screen movement can be seen (clock is the best example), but couldn't move the cursor.) About the on-screen glitches... Have you got QE and CI supported? EDIT: Just noticed, you've got 4 gigs of RAM, you have to use Slashack's nForceATA driver or you'll get KP's. (SATA DVD functionality not guaranteed ) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/173592-p5n-d-and-ipc-1056-issues/#findComment-1192745 Share on other sites

Thanks! - ghostcake. I too had graphical tearing with EFI's and such, I installed NVInject(512) and had the same tearing issue. Finally removed NVInject and installed NVDarwin(512) and the problem went away immediately and I was able to play games with no issues. As for the freezing, I am still combating that same problem, I had the issue with 62.12, 62.13, and .11, although if I removed the ethernet driver the problem went away. It was only random when I was accessing some form of the internet. I'm following some instructions sent to me by another member of this forum (search google for "P5N-D 10.5.6" to find the post) and will see how well it works. Downside is I have to completely reinstall my system, oh well. Price to pay for a stable system. Will update you if this works out ok. ALSO in the interm, try cpus=1, that resolved the issue for me but running only one core is not an option for me. Is the Slashack's nforce ATA driver the same driver as the AppleNforceATA driver that comes with IPC 10.5.6.? I searched online and came up with this link - "http://code.google.com/p/darwin-ata/downloads/list". It looks to be similar. I haven't recieved any KP's, but without cpus=1, my computer will lock up. I too had graphical tearing with EFI's and such, I installed NVInject(512) and had the same tearing issue. Finally removed NVInject and installed NVDarwin(512) and the problem went away immediately and I was able to play games with no issues. ALSO in the interm, try cpus=1, that resolved the issue for me but running only one core is not an option for me. I am noticing the freezing to occur with or without ethernet drivers installed. However, it doesn't occur when I put in 'cpus=1' during boot, like you suggested. This would suggest that something else is the issue (at least for me). Like Matthew L suggested, and if it is confirmed that Slashack's nforceATA is different, that mite be the root of the issue. We will see. EDIT: suggestx3 ftw... ghostcake
Just as an update, I got it all working, I used the NVDarwin that was suggested, and now my g.u.i. is displaying no tearing (thanks!!), I have stable ethernet from the NForcelan 63.12 driver. Quite surprisingly, I also got my A.R.T. Tubefire audio interface working, I am pretty happy about that. The only issue is that I can only run on a single CPU or else it will lock up on me. Are there any fixes out there for this yet? Dominion anything new, I couldn't find that link, so if you could forward that to me, that would be awesome Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/173592-p5n-d-and-ipc-1056-issues/#findComment-1193269 Share on other sites
