Definately use 7.01 or the new 7.1, 6.5 is a generation behind and does not have direct support for Snow Leopard, see my last post for a link for the darwin iso tools to use (301).

Hope this helps, MSoK.

okay... therefore i reinstall 7.1...

but I'm still looking for a solution.

I did everything like in the manual, but it didn't work.. Can someone help me please? =)

OEM DVD, may be an issue, it may work but this topic only supports the retail DVD, but the OEM may work. In terms of player it works just like workstation, so instructions pretty much the same. Only difference is by default player does not download the VMware tools, which while not relevant for OS X, as you install the tools via the darwin iso as you state above, if you set up using the manual it may want to download the FreeBSD tools.

Rather than use the 200 + 7 tools, uninstall them and use the later 301 set, link below, there is a brand new set 310B2, but some issues currently so I would avoid while things get sorted.

Will the setup be simpler if I use VM Workstation? Will the workstation perform better than the player? I have the 10.6 family pack DVD is this ok?

Thank you!

I've done this...

  • I downloaded the files.
  • I opened: Darwin.vmx with VMware WS 7.1
  • I said that it was moved.

Then I got this erorr: No Operation System Found.

(CD/DVD Drive: Auto-Detect)

now what I've todo?

You should connect your cd/dvd-drive from the start, then press F8 if forced, then F10 I you don´t see the install DVD. After this you should see the DVD. Try this please!

Using new Donk's darwin310b2 package and MSoK experience, I was able to install and run Snow Leopard Server 10.6.0 on my ESXi 4.0 U1. Then, I installed VMtools found into darwin.iso, guestd patch and VMvga driver from Zenith. All works together fine!

At the end I tried to install Combo Update 10.6.3 v1.1 downloaded from Apple website. After installation it stopped working contiuing reboot.

Can someone help me, please???

Does this package include an updated darwin.iso or is it this the latest one from Donk?

I tried this some minutes ago but without luck. After the start of the install DVD the machine restarts again - the old problem.

Does anybody else has an idea how to solve the problem?

Not sure where the problem is, but I am sure there is a post from Donk indicating that installing the VMware tools is not relevant in ESXi, and that only the graphics drivers are relevant. So you may need to go back a couple of steps or reinstall, apply the combo patch then add the graphics drivers, but not the guestd patch or the VMware Tools.

I downloaded those files and am now using Workstation 7.1. I was getting "Invalid front-side bus frequency 66000000 Hz".

I created a new VHD using FreeBSD 32 bit. I get to select a hard drive screen in the install but there is no menu bar to get to disk utility and there is no hard drive to install on?

Whats wrong?

If this is a DVD (gray colour) then it won't work as it is for a specific Mac model. You need the retail DVD with the Snow Leopard on the disk.

I tried to make a clean install of Snow Leopard 10.6.3 but the problem still remain... I think it's an ATAPI CD-ROM problem, but I don't understand what is exactly, please help me!

No, I will check with Donk, if I can send out an interim manual for Windows based on darwin iso 301, pending a new version based on all the additions that have come as a result of the latest work by Donk based on his darwin iso 310B2 with SL support for ESXi, MSoK!

So As Donk said.. is it coming out??

Simply because I have to reinstall SL with Workstation 7.1 and want to use latest setup to do that..

Cheers!!!

The DVD is the family pack and it has the snow leopard on it.

You need to follow the document on the first page of the thread and use the installer to place darwin.iso in the correct place. You then attach the virtual DVD/CD to your SL ISO NOT darwin.iso.

Once again I know there have been some changes but the PDF on the front page still explains the basics of how to set this up.

Try a boot with the -v -x -f flags.

For a new and improved way of booting any Mac OS X guest in any VMware product on any Intel-based physical machine, see http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=220750 .

This is a great step forward. Just installed and can confirm that it works, as I am currently installing SL 10.6 using the EFI BIOS and no external hacks!
