Donk
Workstation 7.1 RC Build 254807, appear to have had an update over the weekend to build 256557, but does not appear to be available yet on the VMware web site, only via update. There was a problem with the auto-updater on non_English verison of Windows. So new RC2 been produced.

terakoh
Hi Mahmood, The legacy iso doesnt work for me. I got the "the real-time clock was not properly initialized on your system" error. Hi Donk, I am using the darwin.iso which you have provided and thanks that it has worked for me on SL 10.6. However, I am stucked with the error "EFI runtime returned 0" when I updated it to SL 10.6.2 or 10.6.3. Are you or anyone aware of this error and how to resolve it? Download the darwin legacy iso and then open vmware and pointh the cd/dvd drive to darwin legacy iso and then start mac osx : Download darwin legacy iso : http://mahmood1.com/Vmware_Virtualization_Windows.aspx or : http://rapidshare.com/files/381712876/darw...legacy.zip.html this have helped many people who can now also upgrade even to 10.6.3. Not seen any problems with the Vanilla kernel installing the 10.6.2 and / or 10.6.3 updates. It maybe you are running a non vanilla distribution, rather than the vanilla kernel from the "retail" DVD. If so not really supported in this topic, but updates like 10.6.2 and 10.6.3 replace the kernel, so you will need to replace with a legacy kernel. terakoh
Hi Mac, I do believe I am using the retail version but is there any way I can confirm that? Also, how do I go about replacing with a legacy kernel? Thanks for the advice. Oh yah, I am using i3 530 and its GPU for display. Also, how do I go about replacing with a legacy kernel? Thanks for the advice. Oh yah, I am using i3 530 and its GPU for display. If you bought the DVD at the store then it is retail. If you downloaded it, google it and you should be able to figure it out. Also, did you make a backup of your kernel and extensions before update? If you didn't, then remember ALWAYS backup your kernel and extensions before update. If you did, you can boot into single user mode using -s. Then you can use the terminal to replace the kernel with your backup 10.6 kernel, but I would also save the 10.6.2 kernel just in case.
terakoh
Thanks ArgVega! It solves my problem. Below is what I have done which may help others to get their SL 10.6.2/3 working. If you are able to boot into your SL 10.6 but not able to boot into your SL 10.6.2, try the following steps. 1) Backup your 10.6 Kernel (Ensure that your account password is NOT BLANK. sudo cp /Volumes/<HardDisk name>/mach_kernel /Volumes/<HardDisk name>/mach_kernel_10.6 * You will be prompt to key in your password 2) Install the 10.6.2 update DO NOT restart after installation. 3) Backup the 10.6.2 Kernel sudo cp /Volumes/<HardDisk name>/mach_kernel /Volumes/<HardDisk name>/mach_kernel_10.6.2 4) Overwrite the 10.6.2 Kernel with 10.6 Kernel sudo cp /Volumes/<HardDisk name>/mach_kernel_10.6 /Volumes/<HardDisk name>/mach_kernel 5) Reboot and hopefully you can get into OSX! robr
Hello all, I've been wading through this topic (and a few others that pointed me here) all morning to try to figure out where to get and how to install VMware Tools. I am running SL 10.6.2 in VMware Workstation 7 (on top of Windows 7 Pro x32 - Core2Duo T9300 Dell XPS M1530 laptop) I'm trying to figure out how to get sharing between the host and VM working, as well as full screen video (right now full screen doesn't use the entire screen) and maximized performance. My hope is that it will be speedy enough to use Garageband and a MIDI controller to play around with. Thanks for any pointers if there is a specific post in here about this that I've missed. My Mac (10.6.3) is running smoothy in vmware on Win 7 x64 on my Vaio Z-Series Notebook, but i just use it for xcode. Whatever, i can't get a "full screen", too. I set the resolution in console, but, the problem is, Mac OS can't handle such resolutions (i think, you have a 16:9 Display, too?). The biggest Macbook pro (as is looked in January) can just handle 1280*800 or something, but not my 1600*900 resolution. So there are black bars. So with the commandline setting, you get "neraly full screen". If you don't find it in the posts here or through google, just answer to my post. I got it working full screen using zenith's driver from sourceforge. Still have major issues with sound (even using his driver) though, and the mouse stops working after a period of time. Maybe it's a power management thing, haven't really investigated that at all yet. If I could solve the sound issue and got VMware Tools working, I'd say this thing is running 100%. But right now it won't work for my purposes unfortunately (Garageband).

I have my 10.6.2 running fine on VMWare Workstation 7.01 (and under player) on my Lenovo T61 ThinkPad. I have no problems going full screen on the laptop LCD (1440x900) or on my external LCD (1920x1200). Logitech do not appear to have an OS X driver for your Webcam, but macam's universal driver might work, link below: http://webcam-osx.sourceforge.net/ I thought I'd provide a quick update. After a bit of searching around, I discovered that my Webcam (Logitech Webcam C120) is supported by the UVC driver. It works fine with PhotoBooth so now I just have to test it with my IM software (once I get a colleague online at the other end).

Donk
Hi, it's all the morning that I am trying to start the thing up.. I have a 4i box (hp ml115 g5) it has a Quad Core Opteron 1354 and 5gb of ram Matteo Won't work because Snow Leopard isn't working on ESXi's earlier virtual hardware platform, specifically the LAPIC and timer support. I am working on it in another thread but have not released it yet as I am waiting on some other work being done for me by Chameleon team.

Need to have something from Intel which are 64-bit and VT-x enabled.

Hi Donk, what do you mean with "ESXi's earlier virtual hardware platform"? Can you explain it exactly? I´am looking for a solution to install Snow Leopard on a machine ... can you tell me on wich platform it is possible? 1. VMware ESXi 4.0 U1 with Intel VT-x CPU 2. VMware ESXi 4.0 U1 without Intel VT -x CPU 3. VMware Server 2 on Linux without Intel VT -x CPU 4. VMware Server 2 on Windows with Intel VT -x CPU Thank you and best regards, Tom
MSoK
Hi Donk, what do you mean with "ESXi's earlier virtual hardware platform"? Can you explain it exactly? VMware ESXi 4.0 U1 without Intel VT -x CPU 3. VMware Server 2 on Linux without Intel VT -x CPU 4. VMware Server 2 on Windows with Intel VT -x CPU Thank you and best regards, Tom Tom, When we or should I say Donk, says Snow Leopard won't work on ESXi it is because it is based on earlier code than VMware Workstation 7 or Fusion 3 which can support Snow Leopard. In actual fact work is on going to get Snow Leopard up and running under ESXi, link below to the relevant topic: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...t&p=1458945 In terms of getting Snow Leopard working based on this topic, under Linux or Windows with VT-x, then VMware Workstation 7.0.1 or Player 3.0.1 work fine. Work in the topic "Attempting to run Snow Leopard under ESXi 4(u1)" link above is working towards getting SL running under ESXi 4, I think Server 2 is a lost cause, no real incentive as Player 3 is also free. If you are looking for a solution without VT-x then Zenith432's Snow Kitty topic is a good place to look, and many InsanelyMac users have SL running on non VT-x CPU's, link below: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...t&p=1288448 Hope this helps, MSoK. hippoth
Tom,When we or should I say Donk, says Snow Leopard won't work on ESXi it is because it is based on eariler code than VMware Workstation 7 or Fusion 3 which can support Snow Leopard.
