Workstation 7.1 and Fusion 3.1 Release Candidates Now Available!

If you have enabled the Workstation 7.1 or Fusion 3.1 Beta to look for Software Updates, you should be notified that a new version can now be downloaded and installed. Otherwise you should check for updates manually or download the latest version from this communities site. We have made hundreds of little improvements based on the feedback provided during the beta testing. Please update to the release candidate and let us know how close we are to making the 7.1 and 3.1 versions generally available!

As with previous releases of Workstation your old version will be uninstalled, so you need to install the darwin.iso again from scratch, obviously not required for Fusion as it has native support for OS X as a guestOS, MSoK!

have problem install leopard 10.5 server to ESXi 4

follow the steps, and use darwin-64 since I want to run 64bits Leopard server

the installer can start, and I can start Disk Utility but have problem here:

when I'm using LSI scsi parallel, I can see an external harddisk but it's readonly, when I use LSI SAS, see no disk at all.

any hint?

ps, I'm using darwin200, which can boot, I also tried darwin300 which cannot boot at all

Following a discussion with Donk in another topic, the recommendation is to use an IDE Virtual HD rather than SCSI, also try the latest (non Beta) version of the darwin.iso (301), link below:

http://rapidshare.com/files/365613323/VMwa...est_Package.zip

Also do not forget to uninstall the darwin.iso before installing the updated version, for ESXi use ./setup.sh --uninstall.

Hope this helps, if not post your vmx and log files for review, MSoK!

Is there a way I can get my webcam (Logitech C120) to work on my Snow Leopard guest?

I'm able to choose VM->Removable Devices->logitech usb camera (webcam 120)->Connect (disconnect from host) and it gets added, but I guess I need to install some drivers. Where would I get them?

Thanks

Use IDE hard drive, it is more reliable on ESX.

I've tried the latest 301, can not boot as 300, stalled at blue cosmo background as 300

vmware-tools-userd program does not run on startup even though I installed VMWare Tools.

how come?

I found a guide on how to add unix programs to start on boot but that was a pretty roundabout way and you had to create several folders and a plist. isn't there just a simple shell script you can add a command to?

Yeah. Isn't that what I said?

This is a PC running Windows 7 64 bit, VMWare Workstation 7.01 and a Snow Leopard guest.

I meant should you not go to Logitech for support. However Mac Son of Knife has some suggestions for you.

Not sure what the problem is probably need to post the vmware log file from your datastore, also are you using a "retail" DVD or ISO of Leopard Server? Finally a couple of things in your VMX file you may wish to change:

numvcpus = "2" probably recommend starting with only "1" virtual cpu, this may help with your problem.

These are just for fine tuning and to remove an error message:

mouse.vusb.enable = "TRUE" change to "FALSE" lots of issues in Leopard with virtual USB mouse

svga.vramSize = "16777216" increases the memory allocated for graphics to 16MB, default is 4MB.

I do not think VMware tools under OS X work in exactly the same way as in supported guestOS's, the manual installation from the darwin.iso file, updates drivers and enables support for shared folders, but that is it, unless Donk can clarify.

I fixed it. added the vmware-tools-userd (user daemon?) as a hidden login item.

So now I got copy & paste to-from the VM working.

EDIT: I just restarted the VM and then I got a message that vmware-tools-userd was already running so seem like it was installed properly after all. Ah well. I just leave the login item there anyways in case it fails to start on boot another time.

Seems like this VMWare tools can be fair bit of glitchy at times. Its not supposed to be running on Windows after all.

(even though I suspect VMWare Inc to be experimenting with this themselves a lot).

Can anyone help me: i got the "A Virtual CPU has entered the shutdown state"-Message every time i try to boot.

I tried everything (editing the vmx-file, using different boot.iso's) but i always get this error. Can anyone hint me to a solution?

I'm using 10.6.2 in VMWare Workstation 7.0.1 on a i7-980 (and a i7-Notebook with the same error).

Thanks a lot!

Have you followed the instructions in this thread? If you are using a "distro" of Mac OS X and/or boot loaders not from here, then we don't support that. If you have then please attach as a file vmware.log and vmx files.

We need a whole lot more information to be able to help, copies of your vmx and log files, plus confirmation of your media, i.e. must be "retail", also which version of darwin.iso you are using. Your processor is pretty new, and 6 core if my quick check is correct, so may fall in to the experimental category, currently, as Quad Cores caused some problems for a while.

Ah... sorry. I don't think Logitech even know the Mac exists. :/

The other maccam driver doesn't seem to work for my webcam. Oh well. it was worth a try.

Donk, Sorry for repeating your advise, must have been replying at the same time, great minds and all that, LoL, MSoK!

Logitech, do a lot of drivers and products for OS X, but unfortunately not the C120 Webcam you have! If it is a real issue have a look on the logitech web site and see if they do a Webcam with Windows and Mac support.

To clarify you are running SL not L from your screenshot. My preview does not work either in SL, using 7.1.0 build-254807 and Donk's latest darwin iso (310b1), what versions are you running including darwin.iso. I will investigate, unless anyone else has a solution, as I do not think we can use Zentih's graphics driver with 7.1 and Donk's latest darwin iso.

I have successfully installed SL 10.6 and able to use it. However, as I want to try out the IPhone SDK I need to upgrade it to 10.6.2 and above. After applying the software update, I get constant reboot and unable to get into the OS.

Attached picture is the error I have gotten and also uploaded the vm log. Please advise, thanks!
