cypherx
Sounds like it may be the Energy Saver settings in System Preferences under OS X, change both "Computer sleep:" and "Dispaly sleep:" to "Never" and untick the two boxes. That fixed it! Didn't think of that, because the screen was never 'going blank'. It was just showing whatever image was left up there, although frozen. Now the screen saver comes on and I can hit any key or move the mouse to exit that.
Metman
Okay, no support for my Distro: But for other users: I solved that prob with "the cpu has been disabled by the guest operating system...". in vmware I changed the settings for the CPU from 2 CPUs into 1 Cpu but with 2 Cores! Solved. But still Keyboard problem. If I solve this, I will report here.
cypherx
Well I ran into another world of hurt with this Mac OS 10.5.2 in VMWare workstation 7. I know I can't update the Mac OS X System because of the Kalyway 10.5.2 slipstreams a different kernel in, so in System Update, I updated everything BUT the OS X system. I think it had quicktime in there, ITunes, and something for airport. Well now the networking no longer works. It always says that the ethernet cable is disconnected. I tried sudo ifconfig en0 down and that worked to shut the interface down. However when I ran sudo ifconfig eth0 up, the system froze. That's right, Froze rock solid. So I don't know what's up with it. I guess the moral of the story is not to do ANY update, even the non Mac OS System items. It can royally screw things up. I should know this, because the iphone is the same way. Always wait for the jailbreaking community responses BEFORE updating the iPhone system firmware. EDIT: Was able to get networking back by reinstalling the VMWare tools from the Darwin 301 disk image.

BigCat400
I am running SL on WS7. I created my VM with a 16GB virtual disk and have been running great. But I've run out of disk space. It seems WS7 would let me expand the disk, but as the note says, that's probably not going to make SL see a bigger drive all of a suden, as the partition sizes won't change, etc. Anyone know what the best way to do this would be? MSoK
Hello, back again, wondering if we can upgrade to 10.6.3? The automatic upgrade seems to hand. Jerry, if you are running a vanilla kernel, then the 10.6.3 combo upgrade should be fine, we have had some instances where the automatic update does not work, especially on main updates which may update the kernel, so I would recommend downloading the combo update from apple.com and then installing it manually. rob12357
Donk, your tutorials are pricelss. One day kids will be singing songs about you! I must have seen at least 4 different sites that explained the steps for getting Snow Leopard to run under vmware workstation 7, and using your darwin.iso I've finally managed to get it to work. I'm just happy to see it work, but I am a bit confused as to why/how your approach does not require the mounting of the snow_darwin.iso which all other articles mention which is then followed by mounting the dvd and proceeding with the retail install. Using your darwin.iso which you designed as compatible with workstation 7 I installed it as the old boot 132 via setup.cmd. Changed the parameters in the vmx as you suggested and I got retail disk finally to get past the gray screen. Did you simply get the darwin.iso from fusion 3 or did you re-create it in some other way? I would be curious to understand the magic. Thanks! Well this is my third iteration of getting this working but to answer your question it is rebuilt from the Fusion darwin.iso. There are 4 steps: 1. Extract all the contents of the Fusion darwin.iso 2. Hex edit cdpreboot to remove check for Server version of Mac OS X 3. Add PS2 controller and FakeSMC to the ramdisk image 4. Rebuild a hybrid ISO image The code for seamless CD booting for Mac OS X is in all recent versions of VMware and just require the changes to the VMX file plus ensuring the SHA-1 signed digest is in the correct place. Now I have just got working, in the last week, a version not using the boot loaders from Fusion, but a modified version of Chameleon. This does allow full 64-bit kernel boots on supporting hardware unlike the VMware supplied booter. I will be releasing a test version in the next couple of days. I will want some testers to check out something else I have incorporated into the boot CD image.

Donk
Donk,Ready, willing and waiting with baited breath, LoL! MSoK It's coming soon!! I am just finishing some code changes to allow the boot.plists to be read from the hard drive as well as a needed efault one on the CD image. Also going to add the latest nawcom/qoopz 10.3.0 kernel to see if we can get VT-x enabled older processors to work; e.g. P4D. Possibly even AMD SVM enabled CPUs, but less certain about that. Edit: I have decided for now not to add a kernel into the ISO as there still seem to be some issues that need resolving.

Donk
Did you delete the IOATAFamily.kext from your Extensions directory? @ArgVega: Not sure of the context of this question? If accidentally then possibly a problem, but if you mean that it should be deleted then NO don't do it it! The CPU disabled issue is usually due to VT-x or some other such issue. @frezasaga: Can you run Securable from www.grc.com and post the output please? Can you attach the vmware.log file, (not in-line please so I can check it out off-line) Also is this VM from Fusion originally? Also which version of my package are you using? Ahhh yes you are absolutely right, I got confused with Zenith's guide for Snow Leopard, which I use since I have no vt-x. Sorry for the confusion, I'm still a newbie Would he be able to use netkas patched IOATAFamily.kext? I use that under Zenith's guide to get full ATA support and I am able to use IDE as my hard drive. I don't know if this will apply to him since he is using your method of installation, but thought I'd ask your the master of this along with Zenith. @frezasaga: After you do what Donk suggest and it turns out that you do not have vt-x. I would advise you to try Zenith's guide, because it worked for me with no vt-x enabled. Donk
this is my vmware log file i think..... this is the from securable the only file i used is the darwin_snow.iso.......i downloaded the vmx file in other site............ OK sorry to be awkward here and understand that you are new but: 1. darwin_snow.iso isn't from me. Have you actually followed the steps here or just used some other web site? IF so please use the darwin.iso form here it is the one on front page darwin-wks7.zip 2. Please attach not post in-line in future so file can be downloaded! 3. I think you may have a problem as DEP isn't enabled. Can you check Windows and your BIOS to ensure it is enabled please? Link: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=189969 Hey no problem. If you use the ISO I built you can use IDE and/or SCSI with no changes to any KEXTs. Also think his problems are related to what he is using which isn't my darwin.iso.
