rlsx
Only advantage is screen resize works, wihtout the Zenith drivers releaased in this forum. One area to look out for are downloading the VMware tools. If they are downloaded then re-run the patcher. Is graphics performance any better than with the Zenith drivers? Does one get better acceleration?
Donk
Is graphics performance any better than with the Zenith drivers? Does one get better acceleration? No the drivers are from Fusion 2.0.5, so you can stick with Zenith's stuff and works OK.
Ranguvar
I personally am waiting until I can find a Linux build of the WS7 technical preview so I can enjoy proper audio (VMware 6 needs to be the only app using the sound system on GNU/Linux or it won't have any sound at all, there exist ugly hacks but those annoy me) Great work though. Hope it will be soon. Donk, I assume you won't be able to tell me any dates I might look forward to?

radam
Is WS 7 generally faster than WS 6.5 ? (For OS-X, or others.) I have it and find that it is no faster unless you use a hack to force the mandatory debugging off. The debugging slows the OSX machine down quite a bit... I have not tried other OS's running under it but i assume its the same. I am only running on a 2.4ghz dual-core laptop though.... If it were running on say a quad core or core i7 i assume it would be alot faster as VMware now supports more than 2 cores on WS7.

Quite often though it can be anywhere from 6 to 12 months from the start of a public test cycle until it is available. Yes I would go along with that and I run Windows and Linux VMs as well. BTW, using more coes or sockets in a VM guest can actually make it o slower in certain workloads, so I tend to keep all mine to 1 core/cpu. Also improves processing power available to the host. Donk
How is this done? Copy vmware-vmx to vmware-vmx-debug Can we keep questions about VMwares betas this out this thread please as: 1. I am under NDA with VMware 2. It isn't strictly relevant to the discussion Thanks and I hope you understand.

smarty94
I do understand. Thanks much for your work.Do you know or guess what's preventing this from working with Snow Leopard? Vmware fusion uses a different guest os type for Snow Leopard (darwin10-64 instead of Darwin-64). This new guest os is currently not present in workstation, esx etc. Including current betas. I do belive that these templates work in vmware fusion. With any luck it will be either implemented or ported in the future

Due to NDA I am not saying any more on the subject. I will work on it and if I get it workin will discuss once the NDA is lifted. (I have been beta testing these products for years and as I said in 2 posts up do not want to have this compromised.) Thanks Dave

Yes, "regular" hackintoshes have been able to run Snow Leopard with the aide of either chamelleon 2 or PC EFIv10
jpelli
Here's the download for latest tools for Darwin. The package is for Fusion but it might work for Vmware Workstation. Build number:184177 Edit: Censored due to betas
Donk
Here's the download for latest tools for Darwin. The package is for Fusion but it might work for Vmware Workstation. Build number:184177 http://softwareupdate.vmware.com/cds/vmw-d....darwin.pkg.tar Here's darwin.iso from the package. http://www.megaupload.com/?d=XE9SLG94 Please do not use these links directly, I have to modify them and build my own version of the ISO. And once again this is about the betas!
Wampenseppl
Thank you very much, works like a charm on my ThinkPad R61. I had to convert 10.5.6 .dmg with dmg2iso, VMware Workstation can mount the created .iso-files. Couldn't get this working with Daemon Tools Pro Advanced, Alcohol 120% or a physical burned DL-DVD. dmg2iso should be the tool of choice for providing a virtual machine with a Mac OS X install DVD? Nevertheless I've got two minor problems. 1. Sometimes keyboard inputs start to behave weird. This occurs randomly, but sometimes I have to reboot the entire guest machine. If the problem occurs, Mac OS repeats a typed key several times, sometimes it repeats the key infinitely - this is when I need to reboot. Keyboard should be fine, host doesn't show these symptoms. 2. Sometimes Mac OS will just freeze (happens when idling for some time), even though I disabled any type of energy-saving on guest and host. Manual shutdown and fresh boot required to 'fix' this until it happens again.

Donk
Hey Donk, thanks a lot for your work! Just wondering, how long will it take you to do this? These are from the beta which is under NDA, and so I am not going to use them for now as they could change and may have issues with the released versions of VMware. There is an internal API used by the tools and they do and have changed from the release to the beta.

Donk
Sorry my bad. I am using the first one posted in this thread and now get this during setup: Please re-read the thread. 1. You need to post specific information so that I can help debug this. http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...t=#entry1189918 2. If you are using Snow Leopard it does not work currently so that is a non-starter.
Wampenseppl
RTFM The solutions can be found in the manual. Never thought that anyone would refer me to a manual as I read them quite thoroughly. I disabled the virtual USB keyboard and DirectX acceleration (DirectX and MacOS? errr), now it seems to run fine. I even got Apple Remote Desktop working, Virtual Network options were a bit tricky. Thanks!
