KvadSP
OK don't use the one from you Mac Pro as it is tied to the hardware. A retail DVD or ISO is needed. So is the 10.5 ISO a retail copy? 10.5 is a retail copy, tried mounted via daemon tools and vmware same issues I updated to the latest point release for vmware workstation Tried using the new voodoo as well - no visible timeout on -v Attached vmware.log vmware.log2.zip
ceraxton
Hello Everyone - I have read the entire manual and every post in this topic, but I must be missing something. I am getting stuck after booting from the DVD (Grey screen with the spinner). If I choose to boot using -v, then I can see where it hangs. Screen attached below along with the VMX and LOG files. In the manual section 3.2 for modifying virtual machine settings, it talks about Leopard 32-bit and Leopard 64-bit. I was not sure if the same retail DVD contains both or not, and there is no marking on the packaging itself, so I chose to use 32-bit - just to be safe. Not sure if that makes a difference or not? popu
Donk, I got a chance to try this latest version. Very nice. I like that it no longer mounts the VMware tools iso. It also works a lot better than my Chameleon installs which sometimes boot and sometimes not when running 10.5.7. Some suggestions: Use the patched VoodooPS2Controller that makes the similarity/tilde/backquote (~`) key work correctly. The current version doesn't work when you press those keys. Check wingrunr21's post here (his 2nd post about half way down the first page): http://forum.voodooprojects.org/index.php/topic,137.0.html Also, in that patched PS2 controller edit VoodooPS2Controller.kext/Contents/PlugIns/VoodooPS2Keyboard.kext/Contents/Info.plist and set the "Swap alt and windows key" setting to true. Although that's a bit of a personal preference but seems to make sense in relation to the key placement on a PC keyboard versus Apple keyboard. Include the UUID.kext extension. This is the only way I have found to fix the "unable to get UUID 35" errors in a VMware guest. Check gmacman's 3nd post here: http://forum.voodooprojects.org/index.php?topic=250.0 Only problem with UUID.kext is that the mac address needs to manually be set in its Info.plist. So I don't know about that... Or if you know of a cleaner/better way to fix the UUID errors that would be fine too.

The VMware tools are still mounted but because they are signed VMware automatically unmounts them oce the boot loader passes control to the kernel. This is the behaviour I was trying to get to originally. 2. Keyboard controller does work for me, and not sure I want to ship patched versions but the official ones from Voodoo team. If they add the code that will be included by me. As for the issues I think you can fix all of them without changing the driver. Certainly for me with a laptop UK keyboard it all works for me. a. To get all keys disable the VMware USB keyboard using the notes in the manual. Then it sees all the keys via PS2 interface. b. Modifier keys can be changed in Mac OS X Settings Keyboard without messing with drivers. c. Use Ukelele and get the keyboard layouts, such as Logitech UK Keyboard. Quick remap of a couple of keys, save and you are done. 3. I won't add the UUID extension as VMware create new MAC addresses if you create, copy or move a virtual machine. It would be very difficult to then modify the ISO image each time. Best suggestion is to add to normal Extensions folder after installation. I'm still researching the problem and not sure on what can be done yet. Glad it works for you, and happy to keep discussing this, as I am sure that we can still improve the experience! Hi Donk, Thank you for replying and for the body of work you have built around this solution, which in my opinion is legendary. Regarding your post...did you mean to send me to that URL at www.beambox.co.uk? I click on it and it's a bunch of portable projectors, which I'm not sure is relevant to the Q6600 proc. I'm guessing you pasted the wrong URL? Let me know and I will certainly be a tester for this issue. Thx Again!

ceraxton
http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...t&p=1213021 Long and tiring week! Ok - I was able to successfully uninstall the 2.0 build of the Darwin package from my machine and then re-install the voodoo test build from the link you provieded. I am following the voodoo-test.pdf document and am now able to see the boot screen in section 3.3, where I chose c in order to boot from the DVD drive. After hitting F8 I entered rd(0,1)/mach_kernel.voodoo.alpha3 -v rd=disks1s3. This brought to this screen, which I assume is caused by the keyboard and mouse entries in the VMX file that you referenced in section 3.2 of the voodoo-test manual. I will change those settings to FALSE and see what happens. I will report back shortly. Embio
Donk - the test package works great! The only problem I had was with the DMG mounting issue, but I changed seatbelt.kext and now everything is great. Thanks mate.

The only problem I had was with the DMG mounting issue, but I changed seatbelt.kext and now everything is great. Thanks mate. OK - so I thought I would give this a shot from my laptop machine which is running Win7 RC 64bit where I installed the same version of VMware Workstation 6.5. This machine is an Intel T7500 running at 2.2 GHz with 4GB of RAM. I used the orginal vmware-darwin-200.zip package rather than the voodoo update (as this is not a Quad Core Proc). I am experiencing a similar or the same result...and so I am beginning to wonder if this Leopard Retail DVD I bought on eBay is bound to a mac machine. It contains all of the Apple packaging and book inside. I specifically asked the seller this question, but maybe they didn't understand or flat out lied to me. Can anyone tell me whether or not the errors I'm experiencing are due to my DVD media not being a true retail DVD? Perhaps there's a way of telling by looking at the packaging or DVD disc itself? Thanks very much ahead of time.

I know it will need a seatbelt.kext but the alpha 3 build didn't come with one (perhaps I should compile it myself). I think what I may do is have 2 versions of the darwin.iso that can be selected when running the install script. One is the original one without any modified kernel, and a second one incorporating Voodoo kernel and seatbelt.kext.

Ok - then it would seem I do have a proper retail DVD (image attached). I am obviously doing something wrong if I have near the same result on both machines and the laptop is a Centrino Duo. Perhaps that proc isn't even supported. Donk - that message I see in the console when I boot using -v BSD root: disk1s3, major 14, minor 4 Is that message an error or just informational? Following that I normally see those AppleATADiskQueueManager::setPowerState time outs. On both machines I have used IDE disks at least 20GB in size which I pre-allocated. I don't know what I am doing wrong at this point. Please help!!!

So - I had created an DMG image using TransMac, after receiving this retail DVD in the mail over a month ago, when I first began this monumental effort. I had to figure out how to convert that DMG to ISO and I found an application a few weeks ago called IsoBuster. I was not sure about that ISO given that conversion process, but after your suggestion I thought what the hell and it works. Very strange, given that his ISO was created on a PC from that same DVD though. I would have thought I was much better off sticking with the original DVD. Thanks a ton for all the work and assistance on this! My work on making this happen began with PearPC over a year ago, which was cool but not very funcational. I have much higher hopes for this in VMware. I'm sure I will purchasing a license for VMware Workstation if I get this to work. BTW: VMware should be giving you a cut of all of these Workstation licenses purchased in order to run Mac OS X
