EDIT: SEE THIS THREAD FOR SOLUTION

First off, my setup is as follows:

    • AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+ Black Edition (2.6 ghz, SSE2, SSE3)

    • 4gb DDhR2 800 RAM (4 x 1gb)

      • Asus M3A-H/HDMI Motherboard

        • Northbridge: AMD 780G

        • Southbridge: ATI SB700

        • BIOS: 1501 (latest, 5/11/2009)

        • Audio: ALC888s

    [*]

    [*]nVidia GeForce 9800GTX 512mb

    [*]

[*]One IDE Maxtor 40gb 7200rpm hard drive I am trying to install on to.

    [*]

[*]One IDE DVD/CD Burner, my only internal DVD drive.

    [*]

[*]One SATA 750gb hard drive partitioned into two NTFS partitions.

For the longest time, I had the most abyssal time trying to install Leopard in any way shape or form. I have tried: iDeneb, iPC and iAtkos 4a.

Both iDeneb and iPC gave me the famous Waiting for root device upon boot from disc. Multiple people, including someone on the wiki, were able to install iDeneb/iPC without any modification--but they used a SATA hard drive and SATA DVD burner.

I had more luck with iAtkos, I was able to boot up and install (I took 1.5hrs, it seemed to hang but it was just taking a long time), install the Ralink wireless drivers for my WUSB54G v 4 (as per these instructions).

Since I chose NvInject, I was running at full resolution and was downloading Firefox and configuring settings. Since iAtkos 4a is 10.5.4, I naturally wanted to update because there are drivers for my 9800GTX that support Quartz Extreme (QE) for 10.5.5 and higher.

The update said 10.5.7, which surprised me because I was expecting 10.5.6. I did a quick Google for issues with 10.5.7 and the only things I could find were releated to Parallels, which I am not using. I went ahead and upgraded. Upon reboot in verbose mode (-v flag), I was getting the error shown here: post-421660-1244235339_thumb.jpg

This confuses me because I had read that in the upgrade from 10.5.2 to 10.5.3 you had to delete /System/Library/Extensions/AppleIntelCPUPowermanagement.kext when it appears when you install the update. I was monitoring just in case, and it never appeared. Yet I get this error.

I cannot see it in TransMac on my Windows 7 install on my SATA disk. However, you are also supposed to change /System/InstallAtStartup/scripts/1, and I just did that. I hope that doesn't cause the problem.

After loading in some SB700 kexts from Transmac, which seems to solve the problem for some I get this error:post-421660-1244254758_thumb.jpg

As I experiment more, I will post. I will also be happy to post how I did anything, because I know how insanely hard it was for me with this motherboard. I will also post to the Wiki.

Overall, this has been one :censored2: y experience.

you know, I just did that right before I looked at this post, that seemed to fix those problems, however, now loginwindow.app keeps crashing. I am currently trying to disable NvInject because that was caused problems before apparently. I also am trying ToH kernal because I was using that orginally and that worked pretty well. We will see...

hmm, now loginwindow.app keeps crashing...then launching again and crashing over and over. I see a flash of blue when i boot in -v (verbose) mode. I attached the log file of the crash. Here are the contents:

It seems the only way to install Leopard on the 780g (SB700) chipset with IDE/PATA support is to use iAtkos 4a. However this is 10.5.4, which doesn't allow me to use the 10.5.5 Mac Pro nVidia 9 series drivers with support for QE (quartz extreme).

To clarify, everything works perfect in 10.5.4 (sound, wireless), sometimes it can be a bit slow due to poor kexts but using these ( http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...=126273&hl= ) kexts fixed that.

As said on the wiki, if PATA isn't a requirement, iDeneb works great.

I will try to follow the instructions at http://www.insanelymac.com/2009/05/update-...m-1056-to-1057/ to upgrade from 10.5.4 to 10.5.7.

I will post my results and once i figure this whole thing out i will update the first post for people just like me. *sigh*

well i tried installing with Chameleon, which is causing problems i think. I will try with the Darwin non-EFI bootloader.

Apparently, if you enable AHCI in the BIOS (Main Screen > Storage Settings [about 2/3 down the screen]) and you have a SATA DVD drive, you can install on IDE or SATA.

from: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...st&p=855593 :

I've an AMD 780G based mobo, to be specific it's an EMAXX EMX 780G. I used Leo4All v.3 for the installation. The most important thing that you have to is to enable AHCI or set your IDE to non-compatibility or legacy mode. Apple has its generic AHCI driver and this works prefectly on an SB700 (one of the chips which makes up 780G chipset and that controls your drives IO). You'll also need to have a SATA optical drive to boot the install DVD from, anything other than that wouldn't work.

Well, only choosing the ToH kernel and no bootloader worked for me. I will upload screenshots of what I picked tomorrow morning.

It took about 2 hrs to install but installing the SB700 kexts i mentioned in the first post using OSx86 tools ( http://######.com/osx86tools/ ) and everything runs really, really, really fast. I also was able to force enable Quartz Extreme (QE) using the forementioned OSx86 tools.

Unfortunately I left on vactation for two weeks for I don't have access to my pc on which Leopard is installed, but I can answer questions and upload my photos because they were taken with my phone.

Here is a screenshot of all the options in iAtkos 4a. The ones chosen are the ones that worked for me to allow me to install, then boot in to install the SB700 kexts ( http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...=126273&hl= ) using OSx86 tools.

I have both a PATA (IDE) Hard Drive and DVD drive. I can see my Windows SATA drive:

Make sure you go to Utilities > Disk Utility and format the partition/hard drive that you want to HFS extended (journaled) or something to that effect. You can name the partition anything but I usually use Leopard.

When installing your screen may hang at something like this for 40mins to 1hr. This is normal:

After that the progress bar will move very slowly for another hour--but it will finish. It moves slow because it has SB700 kexts that work, but they are slow. This is also the reason that once you finish installing, Leopard runs slow. Installing those kexts mentionted above fixes that :hysterical: .
