Hi iam a newbie but i have gotten my snow up and running now i am struggling with dual booting bootthink is awesome and simple but when my screen pops up for me to choose my os it freezes and i cant use direction keys or f8 in fact nothing works i am realy puzzled.and do i install windows on separate partition before i install bootthink?

and if i am using a efi chameleon do install boothink in that partition?

 

im in a country where people dont try this loadind a mac os to pc so i have no one to check it out for me but this forum is helping alot.

i am installing snow again im going to install bootthink to my efi drive i hope this is a good idea.i am still trying to figure out why i cant choose my boot drive if i try using f8 or any of the short cuts it wont work could it be my bios settings?i am using the latest bootthink 2.3.18 and kexts from package that uses bootthink 1.1.

To choose the default boot partition, press F8 when the boot GUI is shown. Use the arrow keys to select the partition/drive you want to boot from, ie your boot drive is called Win7, scroll to its name and type #b=10 hit return & reboot.

 

Now when the machine re starts Boot Think should select Win7 and automatically boot after 10 seconds. To cahnge to another OS just scroll to its name and retype #b=x

 

If you want to only show the bootable partitions just type in #p=+ and reboot, then only bootable drives/partitions will show.

I think the problem is that the instructions should say:

1. Hit F8 to go into the Management menu.

2. Choose the partition you want to boot from with the arrow keys.

3. Enter # b=x <EnterKey> where x is boot delay in seconds. If choosing non-OS X partition as default

there will be no prompt. Just enter the command at the end of what is displayed.

 

The part about not having a prompt was mucking me up.

 

If you want to show all partitions use # p=+

 

To show only bootable partitions use # p=-

got a strange issue with BT 2.3.18 (mac) : I installed it on my both main HDs, one into EFI hidden slice of my secondary GPT disk (kind of rescue BT), the other into OSX slice and MBR of my primary disk ; whereas the EFI one can boot anything (on the same HD or not, including XP, 7 and 10.5 / 10.6 OSX), the MBR one isn't able to launch Windows 7 (x32) sitting on the same HD, alongside XP (booting OK) and SL (booting OK too).

 

wondering what I did wrong, actually ; maybe it has to do with 7's bootloader ?

 

edit: well, can't boot 7 anymore, neither from GPT nor from MBR : when choosing this entry, I quickly get back to the OS selection screen ...

Thanks for the bootloader - certainly painless to install!

 

One thing though - when I boot up the machine it takes me to the Windows boot screen - where I can choose between Windows or Boot Think.

 

If I choose Boot Think I can get into OS X so it does do everything I want.

 

And I read if I run installMBR bat it will take me Boot Think automatically - cant seem to find that file though :P

 

If I do find it will choosing XP take me back to the Windows OS choice screen? Or just boot XP?

Sorry but i want to do a ltl offtopic question. I installed iatkos v7 and the xhezy bootloader and need to know how i can change the seconds which needs to wait for me to choose the partiotion i want to boot. It isnt boot by itself. I have to choose and press enter otherwise isnt booting anything. And its getting really annoying because i just vnc to it and it has no mouse/keyb. Thanks a lot in advance. And sorry for my bad english :(

You should place the the file 'com.apple.Boot.plist' in the folder '/Darwin' or '/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration'.

hi xiezhy, i have been using your bootloader ever since you posted it here.

it works great for both leopard and snow.

 

have you considered adding cpu-type SMBIOS support? (read more here: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=189562)

microsoft sliverlight needs cpu info and refuses to install if it is "unknown".

cosmetic "about this mac" change does not make any difference.

i am not aware of any other programs that insist on that info, but who knows..

I have my alternate boot.plist file in the /Darwin folder, but it will only load it if I hit the F8 key at boot time. Otherwise it is using the default Snow Leopard com.apple.boot.plist ( /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration )

 

Aside from that, this bootloader is great. I've even been able to eliminate the need for the UUID.kext

 

EDIT: It wasn't picking up the "-v" verbose kernel flag (which I understand there is a key combination for at boot) but it does get arch=i386. Just a few difference from Chameleon that'll take some getting used to.

anyone tried Karmic Koala yet?

 

Boot Think doesnt seem to recoqnize this latest ubuntu partition with 9.10 in it unlike 9.04 (even after i installed using wubi inside empty NTFS partition)

 

I notice that the distro creates ext4 partition when installing the OS , is this the one that creates the issue?

Is there any way to configure Boot Think via /Darwin/com.apple.Boot.plist to

 

1) Boot into a specific partition [and]

2) Boot directly without showing a menu

 

 

1）rd=diskXsY //This can be configured from within the plist

2) # b=x //Select default bootable partition and x seconds countdown (0<= x <=32767). This only can be done from the boot menu.

SMcputype support would be great. Parallels also needs a proper CPU type.
