tinush
I wouldn't risk getting version with 65W. Q8300 has max TPD at 95W. Most likely it wont' be enough with higher CPU load. I get with one HDD, 4GB of Ram and Pentum Dual Core E6300 (max TDP is 45W for that one) max usage of about 80W for whole system when cpu it's at 100% both cores. +1 i have a 80w psu (Noah case) and it can barely have a full size dvd player (sometime's the system shut's down) e6750 65w, 2gb (2x1gb) Corsair pc6400, Wd scorpio 7200rpm T. btw the dvd was only for testing, no issues with a slimline

Hugo_bee
for mrdale.. you have to read somewhere about p-state and c-state methods. this is a must if you want to inject in dsdt informations specific for your processor. So: the best effort is to take infos with another o.s. .. extract tables.. clean data and put into dsdt. If you don't want to do that.. the alternative is to remove actual dsdt p-state anc c-state data of other processor from your dsdt (if it has those data or not .. I don't know!) and use voodooPstate

I just want a dsdt.aml file that works with my processor (q8300) and does not contain items edited for other specific processors (as I believe dreamwatchers's is). I want all the fixes minus the processor specific stuff. So any advice on which dsdt to use would be greatly appreciated. my 9300-g-e is coming today! Hugo_bee
If I'm not wrong.. Gaansan a couple of posts above has posted the dsdt you can use for yourself! and remember to go in Google and search site:insanelymac.com Voodoopstate ) that's all.. nothing so easy as it!! concord
Nice to see this thread is still going strong! So I have been a happy 10.5 user since Aug/09, but about a month ago I decided to install a nVidia GT240 video card. Thats where all the trouble started! 10.5 just would not boot up anymore. So I bought another hard drive and the 10.6 update dvd. Might as well start fresh and go to 10.6 #1 - Thank you ugokind for keeping the first post up-to-date! Helped a lot! Step #6 was very easy! #2 - Thank you dreamwatcher for your dsdt! 10.6 works great. (I don't use sleep mode, so to me it is perfect) #3 - Thank you minihack, your post #200 (make your own custom dsdt is amazing!) #4 - Thank you tinnush for the AppleHDA.kext info So I now have Snow Leopard running great!!!! With ONE small annoying problem!!! Really annoying!!! Does anyone else here 'dual boot' to ubuntu with chameleon? I do! I use OSX and Linux all day... Here is the problem: If I'm in OSX, everything works 100%. If I want to reboot into Ubuntu 10.04 (or 9.10) I NEVER get the network card to work in Linux! I have to shutdown the computer and also TURN POWER OFF for about 10 seconds, then I can boot Linux and the network card will work. If I go from Linux -> OSX network card will work, OSX -> Linux network card will not work! This is really annoying. Does anyone else have this problem? Here are my details: Chameleon 2 RC4 OSX 10.6.3 Ubuntu 10.04 (32bit) Zotac GeForce 9300 ITX wifi VER 00, with pa105 firmware Asus Silent GeForce GT 240 video card dreamwatcher DSDT/boot.plist(with GT 240 NVCAP injection)/smbios.plist E/E - fakesmc.kext, IOAHCIBlockStorageInjector.kext, LegacyHDA.kext, OpenHaltRestart.kext, PlatformUUID.kext S/L/E - tinnush - AppleHDA.kext Here is what I have tried so far: Build my own custom DSDT using post #200 method - same problem. Build a DSDT for Ubuntu 10.04 and recompile Linux Kernel (Maybe will reset NIC on bootup?) - same problem. Try LiveCD 9.10/9.04/8.10 - same problem Try nForceLAN.kext - same problem For what ever reason, when I restart OSX or shutdown OSX it looks like it kills the onboard NIC and Linux can't use it. It 'sees' it, but says 'network cable unplugged' Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm one problem away from perfection! Thanks...
bibendum
I had the same problem with my UD3P system - replaced my 9800 with a GTX275 - booted into Snow Kitty just fine - because thats where the drivers were added to OSX - but couldn't bring up Leopard. There are, however drivers that were backfilled into Leopard. You can find them here or online from Aquamac or Netkas. I think I'm using Aquamac's. Just google GTX LEOPARD DRIVERS That doesn't help your network problem, but will let you boot back into Leopard. Patrick

concord
In my opinion the Nvidia 200 series aren't worth the money. You'll find that some of the pros here are using 9400 GT thru 9800 GT. Apple's currently using 120's (OEM only), the 220 is the same GPU. The 9400 GT and 9500 GT are ranked slightly below the 220. The 9600 GT and the 9800 GT are higher. This is based on benchmarks which give a comparable idea of where they stand. Any card 9400 and above should work, most important with any graphics card is to be sure it supports OpenGL for OSX's quartz extreme and check for compatibly issues with your build and any enablers required. That part I can't help with, but you should be able to find the answer in this forum or OSx86 site. Interestingly some builds are using the 8800 GT which also ranks above the 220. There may be other reasons for using the 200 series that I'm not aware, even better than the 9600 Gt and the 9800 GT. I'm buying an EVGA 9500 for my build. There is a rebate program on until the 17th bringing it in at $40. It will be a huge leap above the 7300 in my Mac Pro, so top of the line isn't needed at all. Hope that helps, this is a learning adventure for me too. The reason I choose a GT240 was because both Zotac and Asus make a Silent version of it. Completely fanless. They have huge heat sinks around and over the cards and they still fit in a SG06 or SG05 case, making this a very quiet build! I only have one fan in my case (the front one) with a GeminII heatsink for the Q9400 cpu. Let's just say that I can hear the Seagate Momentus 2.5" hard drive more than the fan! I know it's not the fastest video card, but it is faster than the on-board, and has full VDPAU acceleration in Linux. I mostly do photo/video editing in OSX, I'm not much of a gamer
mrdale
Hi Guys. Just completed my build and install, and The only thing I have not got working is LAN and WIFI(obviously)... * Zotac 9300-G-E * Winsis si-12b * Q8300 Core 2 Quad * 2GB Ram * 500 GB HD * Toshiba Slim DVD_+RW Cost was under $500, great value, Really super install... it feels way more responsive than my q6600 shuttle. Any Ideas on LAN? It Just will not recognize a connection. I'm using minihack's DSDT modified with the alc662 fix. Tried everything. I notice that when you enable MAC Lan to auto in BIOS the lights show up on the Connector and not when it's disabled. What should that setting be? I also removed nvenet.kext according to an earlier recommendation. er... HELP?

mrdale
live LAN auto on bios! Actually, All I needed to do was place the nvenet.kext back in the IONetworkingFamily.kext plugins directory. now I'm fully functional! >Edit: LAN does not survive sleep >Edit: Any wisdom anyone? I edited minihack's DSDT and it works nicely in all respects other than working LAN after sleep >Edit:OK, so after reading again, it seems you need nForceLan.kext AND delete nvEnet.kext plugin but now my system refuses to go all the way to sleep and refuses to wake... any thoughts
scrax
I've just ordered this board and just to check if I understood correctly for SnowLeo it needs: Chamelon 2RC5preXX (last revision in trunk) graphics enabler = Yes for a full working video, modded DSDT with HPET, RTC, CMOS, HDEF, LAN, Speedstep (c-state and p-state) patche AppleHDA.kext found in this post extensions.zip from this minihack post with fakesmc.kext AHCIPortInjector.kext ATAPortInjector.kext IOAHCIBlockStorageInjector.kext NullCPUPowerManagement.kext (not needed with native speedstep) OpenHaltRestart.kext PlatformUUID.kext (auto submitted by the last chameleon rev) SleepEnabler.kext (my board is a d-e so no sleep for what I understand) Here my questions: 1) I'm thinking that with the last version of Chameleon and a correct Speedstep in DSDT the last 4 kext can be unnecessary, or am I wrong? 2) Is there someone how tried to resolve AHCI issue with DSDT patching instead of the injector? If it's a no go I think will try to putt all the injector in a single dummy kext. 3) I'll buy a usb wifi card and maybe a pci-e SATAIII controller, any suggestion? This is the other hardware i'll put on ZOTAC GEForce 9300 WIFI Core 2 Quad Q9300 ZALMAN CNPS 9300 AT 2x2GB DDR2 800 Ram 1 500 GB SATA HD 1 SATA DVD-RW and so thi will be mine i9300Hack thank's to yall for the info posted till now!
