im STILL having periodic issues with this machine. it colorwheels for like 30s-1min every now and again. really annoying.

 

im going to have a 'spare' MacBook soon, think i might just give up and use that instead :unsure:

yes, i use snow leopard and bootloader fron zotac gf 9300 wifi

maybe have to do setting in bios

 

I believe support for i5 only came in Snow Leopard. Are you using Snow? More details would be necessary.

I am having a hard time setting up my audio...not sure where to get it from HDMI, Optic are my preferences since they would be giving me at least 5.1 please help me out, I have this up and running with everything fine except ethernet(haven't gotten a wireless dongle yet) and AUDIO...

 

Gonna be running 1080p movies off of this so audio is very important!

i try many bootloader but all not work!

 

I believe support for i5 only came in Snow Leopard. Are you using Snow? More details would be necessary.

Well got sound to come out of it but very temperamental....sometimes works 7.1 sometimes nothing! (optical out)

 

Im having trouble playing 1080p on this bored and wonder if I need a graphics card? I have an extra evga 7600gt 256mb but don't know how to get that running.....tried using osx86tool to do an efi string thing btu got errors....

 

next question I have a external HDD that won't show up on the computer....has all my B-Ray movies on it so I would like it to run...works fine on other computers?

Tried it real quick and had no luck with got errors and installation failed.....so unless there is another way for me to install this I don't think it will work. I followed minihack's installation and now have everything working except for ethernet....gonna pick an apple USB to ethernet adapter and see if that works today while im out since I can just return it if it doesn't.....keep lookin I guess!

WiFi Driver for VIA VT6656 on the Zotac GF9300 motherboard

 

I have spent considerable time researching tech details on this Zotac board before I take the Hackintosh leap. The Wifi is the only outstanding issue according to all the comments I've read here and elsewhere. I have tracked down what I believe to be compatible drivers, under the name Zydas (now Atheros, but no Mac support). It's been a easter egg hunt because the technology has changed hands a few times, and different labels, and appears to have dropped off the Mac radar as of about 2008.

 

Here is a link to the most recent driver ZDA211 4.5.10.0, and guess what, it was right under our noses here at InsanelyMac . . .

I've read in several places on the net that this driver works with Snow Leopard.

 

As others have done here, if this doesn't make the onboard card work I will add a PCI WiFi card. I would like to keep the expansion slot for video upgrades, so I will continue to tackle this issue to find a solution.

 

I'll check back in a few days to see if anyone tried this driver.

 

Thanks to all the great info here, I'm satisfied I can build a Hackintosh based on the Zotac GF9300 the way I want it. It's time to place my order with Newegg.

I bought a Apple USB to Ethernet adapter today that was for a Macbook Air.....

 

Internet works great the trick that I didn't know is that you have to enable Mac Address to get it to work...

 

So my HTPC is up and running...here are the specs for now until I upgrade the CPU and RAM

Gonna go quad core with 4gig and thinking about adding a Graphics card too, not sure what one though. after I really get the 1080p setup tweaked just the way I like it.

I'm using Optical for the sound and 7.1 works great with Plex and VLC...

Actually that's a combo deal for the processor too. And it works out to be about $100 for the mobo.

So to be perfectly clear, at this time is there anything that does not work with the zotac 9300 and 10.6? Did that LAN issue after sleep get reolved?

I wouldn't risk getting version with 65W. Q8300 has max TPD at 95W. Most likely it wont' be enough with higher CPU load. I get with one HDD, 4GB of Ram and Pentum Dual Core E6300 (max TDP is 45W for that one) max usage of about 80W for whole system when cpu it's at 100% both cores.

Probably my DSDT will work for you if you are using a Core 2 Duo. Dreamwatchers DSDT is linked very closely to his own processor as it includes all sorts of very detailed settings from SSDT tables, so if you don't have his exact processor, it might cause issues. Absolute best though is of course to edit your own.

 

Sorry to be thick, but it's not clear to me how one goes about optimizing the DSDT file for one's specific processor. I'm likely going to use a Q8300.
