thnx Ugokind & MiniHack,

this board works very well with your files, only needed to ad cpu info for speedstep

Funny to see that after sleep even the network lights are of. (had this problem before but then the network light where still on

attached used files

again great work

T.,

Just wanted to say thanks for the files, they helped me alot and not have everything working (with the execption of the usb wifi module). I do have one question though, graphics rez comes up at 1400x800 (or something like that) and when I tried to change the resolution to anything higher or lower I get the blue screen. Is this a known issue that I just didn't see noted in this thread?

thanks,

Yozik

hi there,

i did not have that problem, tested with dvi cable dell 2007wfp 1680x1050 and u2410 1920x1200

what sort of connection do you use (dvi, vga, hdmi) maybe setting the bios video memory to a fixed amount

Currently using the vga out but will test a dvi cable tonight when I get home, I used the settings listed in post 1 of this thread for video settings in bios.

Thanks for the reply, at lest I now know it's not a known issue but prob. just a setting issue.

Once again, thanks for posting the files

no not a known issue, unless it's the max for vga but i doubt it

T

btw the dsdt is for the e8500 only, you have to change the setting's for your cpu

T.,

quick question, would the only difference in the dsdt I got fromt he this thread and the one I would get using the dsdt gui patcher just be the cpu id or will I need to customize it inorder to get everything working as I do with the current dsdt?

thanks

Unfortunately my monitor doesn't have DVI in (thought it did)

as for dsdt patching I get 4 errors then the patching fails, still looking on how to do it properly but need some help on that

Edit:

got everything working, with the exception of the usb wifi card, using minhack's dsdt from post 191

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!

hi again.

more oddness... i booted the machine up with the XBMC live cd (wanted to check it out). the machine failed to boot from CD, then i came back and it was sitting at snow leopard desktop at proper resolution and with mouse pointer! not sure what dsdt im using now, but it seems to work.

however, in System Profiler I can see no mention of QE or CI support. is there something i should do to enable these?

also - the blue screen on resolution change is 'known' at least to me - i'm testing with VGA also and get the same thing. i suspect that once gfx is properly working (QE / CI) this will no longer be an issue.

ugokind - i will get around to grabbing the dsdt, sometime when my work life is not so insane!! :(

two more observations:

1) the machine is REALLY noisy. im assuming power management isnt working (supported) and the fans are running full-blast.

2) i cant get the damn thing to boot from the optical drive?! unless my xbmc live disc is fubar. hmm... will test on another machine...

any help appreciated... !

I found that I had to set the fan speed to 50% or 75% in the bios settings to get the system a little quieter.

as for the cdrom, when I change the boot order in bois I found my cdrom was listed at the very bottom of bootable devices when selecting the device to boot from. Note: I did not choose 'cdrom' from the list but the actual cdrom device

hope this helps

hi again.

more oddness... i booted the machine up with the XBMC live cd (wanted to check it out). the machine failed to boot from CD, then i came back and it was sitting at snow leopard desktop at proper resolution and with mouse pointer! not sure what dsdt im using now, but it seems to work.

however, in System Profiler I can see no mention of QE or CI support. is there something i should do to enable these?

also - the blue screen on resolution change is 'known' at least to me - i'm testing with VGA also and get the same thing. i suspect that once gfx is properly working (QE / CI) this will no longer be an issue.

ugokind - i will get around to grabbing the dsdt, sometime when my work life is not so insane!! ;)

ok if too much time elapses ..feel free to send me a pm

remember that if you haven't qe/ci at boot and then you come with a good hw and sw configuration, until you setup those qe/ci (with the typical utilities in osx86tools or QE tools under the Xcode utilities) probably you don't have automatically those QE/CI up.

you can choose to use the utilities (mentioned above but very old fashioned) or try to use flags with newer chamaleon release!

so.. I don't know if you're really right or not with kext/dsdt, and then I don't know if is right for mac not to enable qe/ci due to misconfiguration.. or due to a simple on/off switch

for the noises.. try to use recently voodoopowermini..

and after the boot launch the voodoo power management to see if the system goes to auto-throttle the speed/power of CPU

bye

hey guys,

thanks for your help and kind words :D please find attached the DSDT i just generated using that DSDTDE tool under a 10.5 install.

i tried the DSDT app you linked MiniHack but im getting errors about unexpected } etc when compiling. guess the dsdt is pretty screwed up.

out of curiosity I tried a 10.5 install, which i'm in now. i just tried to play some 1080p content and its dropping frames like mad... is that normal? what the hell kind of CPU do I need to playback 1080p H.264 without dropping frames? I have a 1.8Ghz Core 2 Duo in there right now (E4300 i think?) and 2Gb RAM...

if this box cant playback 1080p content, im going to have to go with something like XBMC live or (shudder) Windows which can accelerate the video playback via the GPU. ;)

Tried it in Plex and it plays back smoothly... but far too fast. :/

In the meantime, I think i have another, possibly more serious issue to deal with. The system keeps shutting itself down. Last time I managed to get into the BIOS 'Hardware Monitor' section. MCP temperature was 94 degrees!

http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18037025 suggests the cpu heatsink might be pressing against the chipset heatsink and causing the high temps. This only confirms my fears - my ultra-low profile heatsink's fins are already 'intertwined' with the fins on the chipset heatsink, but I guess its also causing an issue with the chipset h/s's seating.

time to open 'er up once again...

I initially had a heat issue as well which I was able to resolve by rerouting the cables in the case so they were not next to the CPU. This opened up a passave way for air flow and now I can run the fan at 50% without issues.

Good advice, thanks. In my case, however, I definitely think the chipset heatsink wasn't seated properly - it was being pushed by the cpu heatsink. I actually had to cut off some fins from the cpu heatsink to make it all fit. Mcgyver stylee!

About to boot it back up and watch the MCP temps for a while... wish me luck! :)

i use a very small case - the stock fan wouldnt fit despite being 'low profile'.

i eventually got an Arctic Freezer 7 LP, but as I said had to cut some fins off, and kind of 'knit' or merge the fins from it into the fins of the chipset heatsink to make it fit.

im pretty sure its fixed now - temps in hw monitor are around 46 degrees and holding steady.

i decided to ditch the {censored} 10.5 install - now installing snow leopard again via retail :)

EDIT: last check temps were 55 degrees, after booting the OS again. I think its fixed.

Hi Munky,

after some reading and testing i could only get a full working dsdt (Video/audio) by compiling from different dsdt found in this thread.

None of them worked 100%

wow, this is crazy-cool... i dont know what to say.

im booted up now with one of the DSDT's from this thread, GraphicsEnabler=Yes, and the following in my Extra/Extensions:

fakesmc.kext

IOAHCIBlockStorageInjector.kext

LegacyHDA.kext

OpenHaltRestart.kext

PlatformUUID.kext

and basically everything seems to be working now ;) just tried that 1080p content (H.264 version of District 9 ;) ) and its playing back flawlessly.

if this thing can output via HDMI then im all set :D

thx a million guys :D
