Whoa. I just plugged in my spdif again, and I'm getting audio. However it is extremely distorted. And I only get audio thru itunes, quicktime and imovie. Dont get any thru Safari or Firefox when on youtube or something. Also the sound effects in Sound Preferences dont play. They play fine when Im using analog connection, but for some reason I'm only getting the center speaker.

edit:

IT WORKS!

HAHAHA, glorious sound again! Ok, the sound cracking/distortion was absoutely terrible. But on a hunch I went to Audio MIDI setup in Apps/Utils and played around with some settings. I had it set on 2-CH 32bit. I keep the frequency to 48khz, and changed the 2-CH 32bit to 2-CH 16bit. Et Voila, beautiful sound thru Itunes, Imovie, Quicktime, basically all audio.

So if you're getting horrid cracking/distortion make SURE you set the output to a frequency/bitrate your ALC allows.

damn,,,that's a shame :D

i've been trying to get encoded output for weeks now......it's just not happening.

i've even put my pin configs into dsdt.....duno if there's any point, but system profiler reports everything perfectly + voodoohda works perfectly...

BUT NO encoded output :P:(

i wish i could get applehda to work instead.......at least i know encoded output works with it.....

but i've never been able to get any sound at all with applehda on the laptop.

  • 2 weeks later...

posted this initially in another thread , but got no answer :

kind of audiophile here....

using foobar 2k on win 7 with an RME DAC ...fine results

dynamic detecting 16/24 bit up to 192 KHz files

my aitkos version of VoodoHDA works with SPDIf out

(thats the only thing I need)

BUT : lets me only choose 16 bit

24 bit doesn`t work and results in silence (32bit as well)

no sample rate detection as well

As I have a lot of 24/96 up to 24/ 192 audiophile files on my HD

is there a solution ?

I am on 10.6.4 - Chip is 889 a ..SPDIF out from Mobo to DAC

Hi, I'm trying to get Mac working on my HP Touchsmart tx2-1050ew. The soundcard is alc268.

Under iDeneb v1.6 (Leo 10.5.8) i used Taruga's ALC268 installer and sound just works.

But now I'm fighting with SL for 3 days and I can't make my sound working properly. Tried 30+ solutions based AppleHDA. No one works.

I tried VoodooHDA that detects my soundcard without problems, but... sound from speakers is totally distorted. Then tried to mute mic through prefPane. I hear no difference ;/

Is it possible to switch off any mic, inputs?

Besides, settings of VoodooHDA prefPane aren't saved. What worse, if change sound device in this panel, previous one stops working ;/

I'm IT guy, so ready to fight. Just say me how to do it ;)

I've got a weird problem using the VoodooHDA. Actually it works pretty fine, however, if I install some other software using a standard installer app, the VoodooHDA is deactivated/disbaled/unloaded. I have to run pfix (or whatsoever) to enable/load the VoodooHDA kext.

What is causing this problem, and how can I prevent this? It is quite annoying.

Thnx in advance!

Kees.

I downloaded VooDooHDA-0.2.2 for my ASUS G51Jx-A1....

I have absolutely no sound. I tried booting with "-v" flag to see if the kext was getting loaded, and TBH couldn't catch any line in the verbose boot... went too fast.

I honestly have no clue where to begin... could anyone help me?

try typing in terminal "kextstat" without the "". it shows all currently loaded kexts. if voodoohda is in the list then it is at least loaded.

go to system preferences >sound and get a screen shot. and tell us if there is anything even showing up there.

After typing "kextstat" in Terminal, I used "find" to locate the VoodooHDA kext. It IS in there, but this is what shows up in terminal:

 89 0 0x814a0000 0x22000 0x21000 org.voodoo.driver.VoodooHDA (0.2.1) <88 14 8 7 5 4 3 1>

I'm not sure I understand why it shows the version as being 0.2.1, when I installed it from a 0.2.2 package?

In Sound Preferences, the only sound device that shows up is "Digital Out". I don't have digital out/input on my laptop, and the weirdest part is that this "device" shows up 4 times. I'm assuming that there should be something different displaying for output? Also, Nothing shows up under Input...

All the other voodoo kexts work fine (Battery, PS2Mouse, PS2Keyboard, the trackpad, etc.)... The only problem I'm having with my installation is the sound...

Here is a picture of the "Output" pane on my laptops screen. I apologize for the quality of the image.

play something like a song in OSX and while the song is playing then switch between the multiple digital outs is sysprefs and see if anything of the "digital-Outs" "work" with the internal speakers. if they dont then plug in a some headphone to your jack on your laptop and repeat the process.

if it still doesnt work, go here and follow the instructions and you'll have your own modified voodoohda to use for your system

Ok, so I've FINALLY got the sound working (It turned out I had to manually remove the old KEXT before installing the new v0.2.6 one)

Now i'm having an issue where the Input Gain in VoodooHDA Pref pane will be up every time I log on, and no matter how many times I turn it down, it pops back up upon reboot... This is annoying because the integrated mic is always active and I can always hear myself...

Any thoughts?

My current system is the ASUS G51Jx-A1, with Intel Core i7 720QM, nVidia GTS360M 1GB VRAM and EAX AdvancedHD 4.0 integrated audio. (I believe the integrated Audio comes from Creative?)

This is all the information I have for my system. I do know that it is capable of running 64bit, but I believe that it is launching into a 32bit version of OS X.

In "com.apple.Boot.plist" I see "arch=i386"

I'm not sure how to change this.
