thirdshift
Alright I'm at my wits end. Tried all day searching and troubleshooting this install. ipc 10.5.6 ppf5 universal. Got to installation and everything went fine. Followed some guides and experiences on the forums as what to install. After reboot. I keep getting kernel panic "ACPI" so I go to boot of DVD to reinstall and press f8 "vanilla". It gets me to the grey apple screen w/ the round ferris wheel thingy. It basically just stays there for awhile. Any clue what I'm doing wrong. I just want to get another stab at installing just incase I missed anything the first time but it seems to not let me do that. I've installed on desktops before about 1 1/2 years ago but haven't kept up w/ what has been going on in the scene. I take it that its harder to install on a laptop than a desktop. update: So I tried an iatkos distro. Install goes fine but when it goes to boot it goes to blue screen to black screen. Switched to an lcd monitor and I can see the cursor and grey background. I did not install a graphics driver. Should I of? This will be my 5 install of the day! edit: Specs would probably help Vostro 1500 core 2 duo 1.4ghz 965 mobile express x3100 intel gma broadcom x44 ethernet wireless - idk audio-sigmatel 9205 After 40 mins it's still at grey screen w/ apple logo and ferris wheel spinning and spinning. DVD drive went idle as soon as it went to the screen. Seems as though its my DVD. I popped in Iatkos v2 and it went it fine. I'm re-burning ipc ppf5 and dling ideneb and iatkos 5i to give those a try. yourboyvic
if you're gonna try different hacked distros anyway, why not give boot-132 a chance? GimmeRed
This will get you going. Follow kristoff's guide to get your video going. If you installed the kexts from the update you might need to get rid of them anyway. The easy way if you can access the drive is the get rid of the GMAX3100.kext to get it going. http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=79526 The boot 132 won't help much with the video because you will still need to get the right .kext combo. These are the video .kext that are working for mine. These along with natit work fine except I need to use the hot corner or the sleep display app. http://xtremevenomuk.co.uk/download.php?list.15 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/161362-dell-vostro-1500-ipc-1056-ppf5-universal/#findComment-1131164 Share on other sites

crazy_luv
My Configuration Model - Vostro 1500 CPU - Intel® Core™ 2 Duo 7500 LCD Panel - 15.4" inch Wide Screen WXGA+ LCD Display Memory - 4GB Video Card - 256MB NVIDIA® GeForce™ 8600M GT Hard Drive - 250GB( 1xHFS+ OSX part + 1xHFS+ Time Machine Backup + 1xNTFS Windows 7 + 1xNTFS Files) Sound Card - Sigmatel 9205 Wireless Cards - Dell Wireless 1390 Bluetooth - Wireless Dell Wireless 355 Bluetooth Internal (2.0 + Enhanced Data Rate) What works: Vanilla Kernel, All cores work. SMBIOS Resolver correctly displays all my system info. also macbook pro bios. QE/CI works with NVDarwin (8600M GT 128 MB), NO VGA OUT VGA-out works GR8 (extended and mirrored with full QE/CI support on both screens) when installing with no video kexts then installing KEXT provided for dell XPS 1530 "NVinject.kext_8600M_GT_VGA_out_M1530.zip" <-- Google it it's somewhere here in the forum. Sound and Mic work with patched AppleHDA.kext. and HDAENABLER check this post http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...345&st=280# Webcam works OOB. Ethernet works with BCM4xxx kext. (selected during install) Wireless works OOB. Media Card works with proper kext check this post http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...345&st=280# USB works with USBMount Fix (and some times without it , i recommend installing ipc without it then check if its working or not) Battery Information and Meter work with latest PowerManagementBundle. (currently testing Voodoo powermanagment they say it helps in getting shutdown work) Time sync (RTC) works with CPUMdisabler (Can't remember exact name, but it's under "Alternate Disablers, last item) Sleep works like charm with VoodooUSBEHCI.kext follow the instructions to install and clamshell from dell post installer v1.4 be sure to disable USB power up from the bios. dual Scrolling is working but i dont know how to use it , useing Voodoops2 latest kexts but always remember to delete other ps2 kexts or u'll get your kb hanging with one key pressed What doesn't work: Reboot/Restart (Works until you install any injector, then reboot/restart cease to function properly) EFI Strings ..sUCKS the only thing left is to get my lappy in a MACBOOK pro chassis Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/161362-dell-vostro-1500-ipc-1056-ppf5-universal/#findComment-1153609 Share on other sites
redviper747
What BIOS settings did you guys change (if any) to get the iPC 10.5.6 and iATKOS 10.5.6 to boot? I just turned SATA operation from ATA to AHCI, turned SpeedStep off and Dynamic (something) off. Is there anything else I am forgetting to turn off? (or on) Thanks! mmdmurphy
i just reinstalled my vostro 1500 using iPC 10.5.6 Final. been very very happy so far. i still had to install my sound via the dell post installer, but everything else has been great out of the box so far. I have a Dell Vostro 1500, just a "stock" one... and I have iPC 10.5.6... When I boot to the DVD, it comes up just fine (or close enough anyway). Then I do the install, and the keyboard won't work. Yes, I searched for tips on what to do, and tried a bunch, and I can get booted fine, but the keyboard still doesn't work.... SO, my thought is that I should do a Custom install..... So, onto my question(s) Is there an easy way to simply tell it to copy whatever hardware info it detected when booted to the DVD onto the HDD? If NOT, then is there an easy way to know what I need to install? And, yes, I know what network card is in there, but there's obviously more than that. Including some customizations of (what I am guessing is) the kernel... I'm not looking for someone to post a list, I want to know how to know, but a list would be OK too.
