willdearborn
Sorry if this question seems noobish but this is my first attempt at doing anything with osx. I successfully installed osx86 on my sse3 amd 3200+ system. After the install it won't boot. I just get the boot disk failure message. Can someone please help? thanks Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/15828-cant-get-osx-to-boot-after-install/ Share on other sites

eXKR
I finally solved the problem: I have inserted the OSx86 DVD install and have started as if it were a full install, but when prompt the window to choose drive to install Mac OSX I have opened /utilities/Terminal and have activated the partition with fdisk instruction. I don't remember the exact steps but the guide was found on this forum. Good luck Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/15828-cant-get-osx-to-boot-after-install/#findComment-254131 Share on other sites

The Baron
Hi, I have installed OK, when it reboots I also I get a black screen and a blinking "_" on boot up. Any suggestions. Thanks Get Ultimate Boot CD, you can then set your partition active, and if necessary fix the MBR. DJ BeaST
ok very easy. when you install and you get to the point to custom install choose custom install not easy install. then choose your CPU type if your cpu is SSE2 Then choose it if SSE3 then choose it only don't choose both of them at the same time. and then after chosing one of them and you sure of what you have chosen. then choos the combo update if your cpu is intel choose combo update if amd then choose amd as i said and i repeat again don't choose both combo updates ok only the one that suits ur CPU. i had the same problem you should be fine after that then apart from that uncheck all the boxes only cheec the combo update and the SSE 2 or 3 with ur cpu thanks. Superhero360
I always leave the Mac OSX Install DVD in my drive. It makes my IDE drive boot up Mac OSX from it's HD installation. Couldn't find a way yet how to make my PC boot directly without the DVD from it's HD. dakofsk
i'm rleatively new here. this is my problem. when I start up my computer I get the grey and white apple logo. then the screen goes black and nothing happens. when I put the boot dvd in and use the command rd=disk#s# at the prompt before it starts the installer, I go right into osx and it works fine. how can I boot without the dvd? osxdude
I have same problem too that only an OSX86 DVD can boot from HDD. Any one has a solution of suggestion ? The BIOS seem not able to find the bootable HDD and keep asking me to insert a bootable device. So so weird. breault
same problem here. cant seem to get it. correct partition is marked as active. i've updated the mbr, still no go. tried using chain0 as a last resort, but that didnt even work. tried using grub, but that didnt work either. so it doesnt appear to be a boot manager problem, more like perhaps a BIOS issue. im on a dell e1705. as of 04/07 there was a bios update for "intel machine code". makes me think its an intel efi problem. breault
are you guys using the JaS 10.4.8 Intel image? since the ide drives are emulated as sata, it could be a sata problem too. a friend of mine has this issue with a toshiba laptop. im trying to get ahold of a 10.4.9 image to see how that goes. MaSTeR_MaMay
I think you, guys, should do the following steps... 1) Set partition active (you can do this with fdisk from Terminal... when booted from disk) 2) Check, that it's bootable (fdisk can help you with this problem), set it bootable... (OSX bootloader installs itself to partition and to MBR) 3) Install some normal bootloader, like LILO, GRUB, Acronis, etc... Then boot every time normally... MaSTeR_MaMay
not all, but one, just sorry, it's small and I haven't noticed it... can you better explain your problem, what messages are reported during all your tries... and something else... have you tried editing something like Boot.plist (it's to some others, that can boot from cd/dvd) I think you have to add to kernel parameters rd=disk#s#... also, you might have problems with video card drivers, like me... breault: post please some more info, messages, maybe more concrete description of your actions and their result (maybe somekind of step by step description of boot process will be good)... I'll have a try to understand what's happening... breault
s'alright. basically it's either the "error loading operating system" or just a simple cursor blinking in the top left corner. Now I've tried installing OS X sole and formatting the HD and starting from scratch, and dual booting w/xp, and w/Ubuntu. partition is active, duh. updated the mbr. something i notice, when selecting the drive from the Disk Utility there is no "options" button like some users report having. S.M.A.R.T. is disabled, or rather isnt even a feature in my BIOS. And yes, of course my HD is set as my boot device in my BIOS. I've tried using Grub to boot, Darwin bootloader, Acronis, and XP w/chain0. None can see the disk as bootable/or find the boot manager. it's clearly labeled as active in fdisk though. it's disgusting is what it is. checked the install disk for defects and it's g. im a tech so feel free to lay on the techie-talkie. DrSupachicken
Hi Mate, I'm in exactly the same boat as you. I used the JaS10.4.8 SSE2 SSE3 disc, what did you use? I am currently patching the disc with a some PPFs so I will see how that goes. I don't get the options button in partition like others have said, and my smart is disabled, but it is enabled in bios. Maybe it is a SATA thing? Hopefully the controller patch will do something to rectify things:) How are you traveling? breault
It's a issue with this disk (JaS 10.4.8 SSE2/SSE3). I tried a friends older JaS image and it comes back to life. By the looks of it it seems like the darwin bootloader is not being installed at all. Could be related to SATA, me thinks too. I'm going to try to get the Uphuck 10.4.9 disk. I tried a friends older 10.4.8 disk and everything came to life. Also heard you might be able to use the Darwin Open Source developers CD to partition the disk and install the bootloader correctly. But thats just what i've heard. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/15828-cant-get-osx-to-boot-after-install/#findComment-399448 Share on other sites
