Hi

I'm trying to install MacOS 10.5.6 on a Dell E6400.

According to this page from OSX86 which is about the Dell Latitude E6500, I have to install on the first the Kext for the ICH9 in order to allow my laptop to boot.

In fact, I get the "Still waiting for root device" message during the boot. And this problem seems to be directly related to this problem with the ICH9.

I found some Kext on this page from this forum but they seem to be for the 10.5.5 version.

So, my question is: can I use without any risks these Kext ?

If it's not the case, where can I find a valid Kext for my version of MacOS ?

I also have some interrogations on the way to install this or these Kext ?

I found this page about Boot-132, but I have no idea wether this is the right method to install some Kext.

Thanks in advance for the help.

I just tried to Install the Kext from this page but by mounting the HFS partition in Ubuntu instead of using a terminal from the install disc of MacOSX.

I first removed the directory IOATAFAmily.kext in /System/Library/Extensions/ and replaced it by the one from the archive on the page.

I changed the right of the directory and subdirectory and files to 755 through:

sudo chmod -R 755 IOATAFAmily.kext

I also changed the group through:

sudo chown -R root:root IOATAFAmily.kext

I removed Extensions.mkext in /System/Library/ and I tried to remove Extensions.kextcache but it didn't exist.

I still have the "Still waiting for root device" message during the boot.

Is there any problem with my way of installing the Kext ?

Is there any other avaliable sources of Kext for ICH9M ?

Thanks in advance for the answers.

Are you using the Windows bootloader (e.g. dual boot with Windows as primary)? If so, you'll need to add an OSX entry to your windows system. See this thread for some help, and I have a post on the 2nd page that should help you do that. It talks about "chain0".

Actually I'm using Grub to have a double boot with Ubuntu.

I think that our problem are different: it looks like you weren't able to boot at all.

I can boot on both Ubuntu and MacOSX.

I just have a problem while booting on MacOSX (cf my first message).

Thanks for the help.
