SnoopKatt
Yeah, it appears that only changing the VEN and DEV ID's is not enough anymore, which is why following these older tutorials step-by-step no longer works. Did you try the program I linked to? Supposedly "ssb-prom –help" (or maybe "ssb-sprom –help", could've been a typo) should give you a list of commands. If you can find a command for changing the SUBSYSTEM ID, then change it to 0x12118086. If there's no command for that, try changing the PCI Product ID (not the device ID) to 0x4237, 0x8086, or to 0x1211. Another idea is to plug your Intel card into your Acer Aspire and see if it appears to be exactly like the ID's you have for the Broadcom.
Angel Abad
Nice! Thank you very much for the drivers, the guide, everything! I just followed the article and all worked perfectly! I have a dv3550es. If I find the Wireless driver I'll post it here. I installed from a Leopard DVD v10.5.4 and I boot it using the grub-dfe.iso loader. I just followed the steps explained here and all went very well. I found this article by accident finding where I could find the backlit keyboard as my laptop came with a non iliminated one you could barely see in low light conditions. This what I found: 496120-001 is the keyboard with lights, broze colour, and US layout. 496121-xxx is without lights. I couldn't find any other language layout with lights, I bought my US one from here: http://www.chilternitparts.com/ Very happy now More info: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01614393.pdf
Angel Abad
Hello! Thanks again for your work. I confirm 10.5.4 installs perfectly and all described in the guide works fine. I have 10.5.6 installed and this is what is not working yet: I got this one dv3550es: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/documen...product=3804213 Doesn't work: - Wireless card: Intel WiFi Link 5100. - Brightness controls: (either using the keyboard or the OS doing it when going to battery mode) - Sleep. When going to sleep the laptop switches off the screen and that is all, it won't shut down anything else and it won't wake up - eSATA port: If connected a USB2 disk it works but not if you connect an eSATA external disk. - HDMI audio output - Finder print reader: (I haven't tried the suggested solution) - Infrarred and therefore the remote control. Haven't tried: - VGA output - ExpressCard/34 Slot Everything else seems to work very nicely nice work (I hope you make a v2.5!)

esoterikest
Supported WIFI card... I am going to experiment swapping out the wifi card for any of the following HP part numbers which should not hang on boot since they are "HP parts": 416376-001 or 407159-001 both of which should be broadcom chipsets: BCM94311MCG DOes anyone have any experience with these? this is what i found; http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...rt=#entry986084 note where it says, "once again the broadcom bcm94311mcg card works on osx86 without any kext editing" PM UPDATE: From an HP dv2610us, I pulled a HP spare 441090-001 (also # 418572-001 is on the card) , it is a bcm94311kfbg chipset and I get the dreaded "104 unsupported" hang on startup and nothing else. There are a bunch of workarounds on the web that I'm not too excited about trying. ...why hp, why?
esoterikest
You can't mod an Insyde bios without decompress it.The Asus bios work perfectly, the wireless button , mulitmedia buttons works too! You must flash all blocks, you can use asus utility or Unifash. My laptop is dv3525ef, the motherboard is the same to others but before to flash, please make a bios recover floppy disk and test it. These won't work in 64bit Wndows but here are some decompressors for our INSYDE BIOS: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...st=#entry900398 BTW, I tried reverting back to the oldest BIOS that HP makes available to us online and still get the 104 problem with an HP branded broadcom card. I even got so far as to pop the card into the pci-e slot before opting to "boot from hard drive" in the boot options, got into windows but nothing came up in the hardware manager even after searching for changes. So, the mission is to decompress a dv3 INSYDE BIOS (download the latest one which is currently F.13 from the HP site), find the white list and add any card we want OR, ideally, just get rid of all limitations or exclusions it has for any alternate WIFI cards. SnoopKatt
If it can be recompressed, it could work. Unfortunately, if it has a CRC check, then we can't edit it unless we do another work-a-round.

The express card dell DW1390 works perfectly as an official airport card after the "uinstaller" step. After "uinstaller" and rebooting, physically insert the card in the express slot and just go to network in system preferences. 2-The "kexthelper" program will not RUN without password so you must have one set for your account. GUYS? I can't get the right click options to get the "Right click, select "boot at startup"" for the genericCPUPMcontrol. Please help. Wait, that Wifi card got past the whitelist on the DV3510nr (or a variant of it) and it works as a replacement for the Intel 5100? Sweet! As for the genericCPUPMcontrol, start it up and then right-click the icon and there should be the option. If not, then click on the actual application and the option should be there. It's not exactly essential, but it's good to have it.

SnoopKatt
esoterikest, all you need to do is: 1. Launch the program or drag it to the app bar at the bottom of the screen. 2. Right click its icon, and the option "Open at Login" should be there. Just click that and you're set But the Dell DW1390 wifi card works 100% with no 104 error or hotswapping? Can you just insert the card before you start up the DV3510nr and be good to go?

Sorry for the translation. "open at login" should be ok. I have an dell 1490 and I can´t boot. Error 104 is ruining my life By the way, I have replaced my Keyboard with this one The original keyboard of my model (dv3540es) doesn´t includes led-backlight, but you can replace it, and it works flawlessly. The shop can deliver worldwide, so if you have any DV3500 series without backlight, it´s a great and cheap chance to adquire it.

SnoopKatt
Your best bet is just going on eBay or Amazon; it's a pretty specific thing to ask for. We might play with the internal W-fi thing some more this weekend, and if anything interesting arises from it, we'll let you know.
esoterikest
Yeah man,You need to reconstruct your partition table when you´re creating partitions, changing MBR to GUID Partition Table. (look at point 3 of my guide) You can also do the following: -Create at least 3 partitions. Format the last one in FAT32. This should create an hybrid GPT/MBR partition, and maybe all goes easily if you want to install windows too. Other method is to modify your retail DVD to be able to install on MBR partition table, look for info here in the forum. Or you can use the windows partitioning tool to resize and repartition to install and boot to multiple OSs. here's a great guide: http://www.tweaktown.com/articles/1713/win...ide/index5.html
esoterikest
How can I TRIPLE BOOT windows 7, OSX, and ubuntu 9.04 ? In the tutorial it says to check GUID in the disk utility for a "more modern" boot loader but which are you guys using and can you quickly tell me the easiest steps you know will work? I believe windows Vista and windows 7 are interchangeable for the triple boot. Also, because someone asked, we CAN use our original HP-Vista installation if we shrink the partition with "acronis or partmagic" or something similar OR follow this guide after upgrading to Windows 7 (which i did): http://www.tweaktown.com/articles/1713/win...ide/index2.html I know I could find out online but if anyone here knows, pass it on. SnoopKatt
Yeah, just shrink the Vista/7 partition into other partitions and install each OS. You can then use EasyBCD to organize the boot order.
Ed_Saxman
Yeah, I´m using EasyBCD with OS X and Windows 7. In my spanish version of this same tutorial there is an annex with the instructions to install different SOs on the same HD. I´ve just installed OS X on a HFS+ partition, and format one partition in FAT32. Then, when you install win7 formatting the fat32 partition on NTFS (with the same win7 installer), and install it. Later can you install EasyBFD and have an easy multiboot system.
esoterikest
Hi Guys, 2 Questions; 1. I hear the DVD drive making noise every 5 minutes. What is the problem? 2. In the top tool bar, there is the letter A with a circle around it. What is it? 3. Which is best for the DV3?... I searched the forums and people here are trying to get "1-finger scroll" and "2-finger scroll" for the mousepads. There are many methods like the "sidetrack" driver: http://www.ragingmenace.com/software/sidetrack/ or KEXT editing like this: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...8811&st=260 Gracias
Ed_Saxman
1. Probably becouse our CDdrive it´s a piece of {censored}. Mine sometimes doesn´t want to open, but isn´t noisy at the moment. 2. The circle A is almost certainly the best-known present-day symbol for anarchy. Sorry. It should be part of some kext I´ve used with the guide, but I don´t remember exactly which one can be. (maybe speedstep?) But you can check it the next time you install osX. 3. Yeah, with some trackpads you can do all those things. But I tried with many ALPS glidepad drivers founded in this same forum, and I didn´t find any that works reasonably well, so the included driver in my pack at least guarantee you a perfect mouse. At this point I prefer not to mess with my installation, so if you want to do some testing, it would be bery nice.
