the great deceiver: I guess it's just a matter of personal experience :(

Seriously though, I don't mind whatever people use. I did however notice a few kext version discrepancies between an official 10.5 install and the iATKOS disc; I'll do a full check and post my reports for those who are interested.

weaksauce12: consider the guide updated now! I also added a few goodies to the file attachment list.

yep, agree, if you don't want to be partial you may want to add a little note that kalyway is also an option. btw. a new ppf came out to upgrade the iATKOS install (1.0i to 1.0i r2 ppf on the bay).

edit: I see you updated, now your instructions are perfect!

My options for booting up

IMG_0037.jpg

I stop here, there are no error messages. Nothing, it will stay there forever, I left it 20+minutes

IMG_0039.jpg

Any ideas, I've seen no one have this problem ever, could it be my RAM upgrade?

edit: after a long while it goes back to the darwin boot screen

edit2: I took the time it got to load to this screen was around 30 minutes (NOT the same release as the one above, this is ToH release)

leorimolo: that's a bit of a classic problem. this usually occurs when you are using an incompatible kernel for your system. i.e. if you are using a kernel that relies on the NX processor instruction, but it cannot see it, thus it will produce an ACPI related panic.

The best solution would be to try the ToH kernel's located at irc.osx86.hu in #10.5

Perhaps you are simply selecting the wrong kernel when you choose to 'Customize' your installation with the Kalyway disc :thumbsup_anim:

Make sure it is Intel/SSE3/HPET compatible and you shouldn't really encounter this problem.

I'm using iATKOS on my E1705. I got it all tweaked about as good as it's going to get. I am having an annoying problem though. The Broadcom 440x NIC seems to just drop off randomly. I believe it's related to load, as it loves to happen when I have say, Bittorrent going and it's moving fast, but I have had it drop off while just sitting on IRC as well.

The symptom is all network activity just stops suddenly. I still have link to my router (Netgear WNR854T) but absolutely no activity whatsoever. OS X doesn't report any errors that I can see. I don't know enough about OS X to know if there's anything I can do to try to restart it without rebooting, so I just reboot and that clears it up until the next time.

This is iATKOS 1.0r2, with the Broadcom 440x option. I don't have wireless enabled in BIOS. I had it on a different Netgear switch for a while, an older one, and it did the same thing. I vaguely remember this happening in 10.4.9 and/or 10.4.11 but I ran those for only a very short time so I don't recall clearly.

Anyone else seen this problem, or can offer any advice on it?

People keep saying Installation... I haven't installed anything, this is me trying to run my installation disk...

And that error was given to me by the ToH RC2

Ahhh, it's just that you said 'Kalyway' so I assumed you were talking about that. You didn't mention anything about ToH RC2.

Basically, don't use that disc, many people have had problems with that release. You're wwaaayyyy better off downloading iATKOS or Kalyway.

S.SubZero: the problem you describe only happens if you are using the AppleBCM440XEthernet.kext together with a newer IONetworkingFamily.kext which is incompatible.

You probably need to delete the AppleBCM440XEthernet.kext (if it it outside /Contents/PlugIns) and replace IONetworkingFamily.kext with the 10.4.6 release to fix the problem entirely.

I know that some people report dropping wireless connections with the powermanagement bundle that is not fully working at the moment. If you have that installed you may want to try to switch back to the original one. Also, sometimes the LAN settings don't stick with the auto network settings and it's better to create a new location and set up the LAN manually. I have kalyway on my E1505 and never had problems with the Broadcom. I assume you have your wireless disabled because it's not compatible with Leo?

edit: oops, I didn't see devilhood's post. try that first.

Leopard requires that you replace the AppleACPIPlatform.kext with one from a Tiger install otherwise you cannot enable the battery meter.

The Energy Saver preferences seem to be only taking effect after a system restart, so if you are having troubles with display sleep, set it to 'Never' and restart your machine to fix any problems.

(S3) Sleep is known to work perfectly using EFI with the Vanilla Darwin kernel.

What do you set it and restart ? do you exit out of sys pref ? or do you stay in it ? I tried setting it and rebooting and it still goes back to default. Also do you do this with power adapter in or on battery ? do u set it to custom ? Can you be a bit specific, cuz its very annoying that it put screen to sleep after few minutes and you cant wake it up. Thanks.

I'm using the stock AppleACPIPlatform.kext still, so I only have one 'mode' to configure. I can live without the battery meter for the time being until someone compiles a properly working PowerManagement.bundle

yozh, I thought you solved your sleep problems. your sig says it's working. shouldn't it wake up properly? btw, the statement that sleep works with vanilla kernel and EFI is not 100% true, certainly not for dells with gma950 gfx. It just doesn't work for the onboard gfx card. but you got the dedicated gfx and shouldn't have any problems, correct?

The statement is true enough, but different hardware combinations can have adverse effects on many aspects of a hackintosh setup.

I will put a note in regarding GMA950 users, just so they are at least aware and don't get too peeved when they find out integrated GFX causes this problem.

My guide was originally only meant to be for people that had Nvidia/ATI graphics, but it has since developed into something more unified. I'll need all the info I can get from you GMA950 users, because I'm not up-to-date with how that is progressing.

yes full manual sleep works 100% except for the lid part, but when just the screen goes to sleep you can wake it up from it, what i do in that case is press the power button and hit S and then the laptop goes to sleep and then I wake it up ok.

unfortunately for gma950 dells there is no solution to sleep at the moment and the mouse tearing. iGuru found out that if one plugs in an external monitor with vanilla gma950 kexts it works 100%, unfortunately the internal display is not working (iGuru).

Paulicat says that gma950 on Dell is an entirely different beast and he can't do anything about it. His gma950 solution works well on non-Dells (Paulicat).

I have just tried gfx strings in com.apple.Boot.plist, but that doesn't work either, no change (Efi+gma950). so for now if one wants to use vanilla kernel it needs the old AppleIntelIntegratedFramebuffer.kext to work, otherwise only external display will work. But even with the old framebuffer.kext, mouse tearing is still a problem. I use mousepose to get rid of most of the tearing and I can live with it. The biggest problem is that sleep doesn't work in any shape and form. No matter what is used (sleep_kernel, vanilla....), nothing works. This is also related to the funky Dell gma950 integration and unfortunately nothing can be changed in BIOS. The notebook goes to sleep, wakes up but with a black display. Too bad they don't have flexible foldable paper-thin displays yet, the external monitor option would then be a solution

Since newer Dells have newer gfx cards and gma950 becomes outdated I am very pessimistic that this will ever work. by the time it may work I will probably have a new notebook with new problems ;)

so basically there is little progress. from iGuru's post one might sense some hope that sth can be done easily, but that is old already (Nov07). I am sure if Paulicat had access to a dell with gma950 he would be able to fix it, no luck there :(

Ah. that sucks :( thanks for the info though, I will most certainly put it into the guide and credit you and iGuru.

Dell seem to be a bit skimpy with quite a lot of aspects it seems, it's a shame really. Most of the problems we have with their laptops, (lack of AHCI on earlier models, dual-core stutter) are down to the fact that their BIOS engineers haven't got a clue what they are doing

One can only pray for the perfect Hackintosh laptop to hit the market some day.

sonotone: you can test the ToH kernel easily by copying it into root under a different name. e.g. mach_kernel.toh and then at Darwin prompt type: mach_kernel.toh cpu=1

That way it will test the new kernel without replacing the old.

I get a KP. I think i have to replace some additionnals kexts. i tried with appleacpiplatform.kext and applesmbios.kext from patched folder of kalyway's DvD install, but no succes.

I was just tagging along with the gurus, no need to credit me :) .

btw. I love Jeff Buckley (god knows what he would be up to today). I tried to listen to some of your songs, but whatever I use (IE, FF..) nothing plays the songs, all I see is the lyrics. Any hint?

if you have PC5300 then your memory should indeed run at 667MHz (PC5300). Your memory is OK I think.

EDIT: The media player is now up on the site

Yeah, apologies for that. The cover-flow on the main page is actually the media player; I haven't got round to adding the Flash Player link on the actual media page yet, which will be a more traditional interface.

To play a song, just double click on a particular album/single cover and it should start.

Oh and here is a tiny little secret track: http://www.crunchalias.com/private/glowgirl-demo.mp3

Enjoy :)

I've spent the majority of the weekend trying to get my VGA out to work on my Dell E1505 with the Geforce Go 7300. After playing around with a couple of different NVCAP settings, I finally found one that worked. I'm not sure if anyone here needs it and I've tried to search with no luck but here you go: <04000100 00000300 0c000000 00000007 00000000>. If anyone wants it, I can upload my Info.plist file. I'm tired and finally going to go to bed. Goodnight!
