S.SubZero
Hi! I have an E1705, nVidia 7900GS Go video chipset, 1900x1200 display. I got XxX 10.4.11 up and running, but I'm not sure I really have it tweaked as well as it could be. First off for some reason I couldn't get the GUID partitioning to work, it would either "b0 error" on me (and fdisk would not fix it) or just give me a blinking cursor. After many tries I fell back to MBR and it worked. I am running the default no-EFI kernel. Any preferred set of choices to get the EFI kernel and preferably GUID going? I mention Windows XP64 in this post, but it's on a different internal drive, I swap them out physically to change OSs, so boot menus and dual booting don't apply to me. Secondly is graphics. I can't remember to be honest what I chose, I think I have Natit .2, but I can't remember now. I believe I also chose the "Mobility support". Was this necessary? CI in Profiler says "Supported", is this good or should I be seeing Hardware Accelerated like I see other people getting? Another freaky thing is the screen gets all crazy during boot, like it's gone on a drug binge. This was happening to me when I had a bad nVidia driver screwing up XP64, but OS X recovers after several seconds. I don't see anything about the dual core problem, this is depressing. I currently have "cpus=1 idlehalt=0" in the bootup. I can tell ya the laptop seems to be really cooking running OS X. I usually run XP64 full-bore anyway but it doesn't seem to be this hard on it. Oh, and an OS X question really - how come FTP in the GUI keeps making me read-only? I connect to a remote server with my credentials (which have full access) and the properties tell me "You can only read" and yeah, I can't write. However if I FTP in a terminal it works fine. ?? sonotone
Sleep out work for me natively with kalyway 10.5.1!! I format my Hd under Guid, install vanilla's kernel, efi bootloader and nvinjectgo from Dvd. Slepp worked at first boot! What a big and pleasant surprise. I Hope the same for all dell's users. yozh
Yeppy Sleep worked with kalyway DVD not with lid closing but hey better then nothing. Powemanagment bundle doesnt work any more, no battery meter, still 1 core (its fast enough) everything else works
Stevey
I've installed Uphuck 10.4.9 on my Dell Inspiron 6400, after 5 hours of reading all the fixes on the first page. All problems are solved but instead of me reading 52 pages, does anyone know if the cpu=1 trick is now redundant and is there now a way to use both cores and you video playback (stuttering) problems will be gone? And one more issue, after 15 minutess my laptop goes into standby the wont turn back on again, the power LED on the laptop still says it's turned on, strange? Thanks for all the help on this topic. devilhood
Alright guys, just letting you know that the Uphuck iATKOS v1.0i DVD (10.5.1) installs fine with MBR EFI on the 9400/E1705. The Darwin Boot Loader also boots Vista without any problems. Sleep/Wake is flawless with the vanilla kernel and System Profiler is showing all the proper details with iGuru's modded AppleSMBIOS. AppleHDA works fine with TBCarey's 10.4.10 package, but you need to remember to REMOVE AppleAzaliaAudio.kext otherwise it will not work. Dell Wireless works fine, Broadcom 440x Ethernet patch can be selected from the DVD install options, Hard-Disk access has vastly improved in speed compared to any previous install I have used All we need now is TBCarey's updated patch, a working PowerManagement bundle and a compatible EFI loader for the 7900 GS so we don't need to use NVinjectGo anymore. Also, the only way to boot properly atm is to keep using cpus=1, otherwise it will most certainly hang. Some people have been worried that the sound might stutter with the vanilla kernel and cpus=1 enabled, but I can assure you that the sound is perfect P. Danomite
if we arent using the nVinject anymore, does that mean i'll be able to enable both cores of the CPU on my M1710??
devilhood
The Dual Core problem has nothing to do with the graphics card. It is strictly an ACPI related issue, meaning that we need a specifically compiled kernel for our system.
yozh
Yeah pretty much the powermanagement.bundle and we all good except the cpus=1 thing. 1 Core better then no cores Hope to hear soon about the powermanagment thing
sonotone
a compatible EFI loader for the 7900 GS so we don't need to use NVinjectGo anymore Yep, cause for now, Nvinject generate colour banding with Leopard. Also, the only way to boot properly atm is to keep using cpus=1, otherwise it will most certainly hang I prefer to use my both core after sleep out
Danomite
so, can i use both cores by using this after sleep method? If so, how is it done?
cyonix
i installed kalyway with nvinject.. direct after boot up and configure account, i tested hibernating which works out of box with cores=1 but after wake up the hdd led shine the whole time and the system hanged.. i can use mouse but no clicking worked.. any ideas? maybe the hdd isnt good for mac? devilhood
Yep, cause for now, Nvinject generate colour banding with Leopard. I prefer to use my both core after sleep out Use the attached NVinjectGo 0.2.0 in this post to remove the colour banding for your NVIDIA GeForce Go 7900 GS. All that I had to add in this new release was the '@0,built-in' and 'built-in' entry specifying whether the display was internal or external. Sometimes this flag is needed for the Apple drivers to know how to apply colour settings. I believe this kext will also work fine for other cards with the same problem, just remember to edit you graphics card model name if it is something other than the 7900 GS. Also, if you want keithpk's PowerManagement bundle to at least display the battery icon etc, use the AppleACPIPlatform.kext from 10.4.11. You wont be able to manually set the time for (S3) or Display Sleep though. Danomite: the dual core issue is the most popular subject in this thread, look through some of the previous pages. sonotone
Thanks devil for the file, it works great with my go 7900gs. Just think to repair permissions and rebuild the cache, or you get a kernel panic.

S.SubZero
Change the permissions on ALCinject.kext. That's something I can't do and that Disk Repair won't do (because it's not a standard kernel extension). Run terminal, go to /System/Library/Extensions, and 'sudo chmod 755 ALCinject.kext && sudo chown root:wheel ALCinject.kext' and enter your admin password. Should work then with the original kext, but not the version I had released for 10.4.10. Edit: I figured out the error (need -R after chmod and chown). I am still trying to figure out how to control the individual volumes. Very interesting setup @.@
Chrysaor
I have some questions about Leopard, Does display sleep work with Go 7900GS? Dual display (preferably DVI out) working with NVinjectGo or anything else?
devilhood
I have some questions about Leopard,Does display sleep work with Go 7900GS? Dual display (preferably DVI out) working with NVinjectGo or anything else? I haven't tested display sleep with NVinjectGo 0.2.0 yet, but I will do a bit later on. I didn't bring my DVI cable with me when I left for Sweden so I can't test that for you until I get back on Jan 1st If both of those problems still exists, it is because the NVCAP value is incorrect. We could always experiment with slightly altered NVCAP values to see what fixes what etc, I'll probably try this during the week.
