Some info on what's going on. I put grldr, boot_v5 and menu.lst in the root of my c drive.

menu.lst contains the following:

find –set-root /bootmgr

timeout 10

default 0

title Leopard

kernel (hd0,1)/boot_v5

Vista is my first partition, Leopard my second.

When the bootloader comes up, OSX is in the list....When I click on it I get the "failed to load properly" message. That \grldr can not be found.

Any ideas?

here is how I got mine to work. under diskutil my partitions show up like this:

hd(0,1) OSX

hd(0,2) Vista

hd(0,3) Data

however, when I set up the drive under Acronis Disk Director, my vista partition is first, my Data second and the OSX last. Not sure why darwin lists them differently. Note that this may be a problem you are having. I would try to cycle through the partitions in menu.lst and maybe it picks up the correct one.

In any case, after I added a free partition to my disk to hold OSX I used Acronis TrueImage to load OSX onto it. This came from a working image of 10.5.1 that I installed on a different hdd that I used on the same notebook.

The image of 10.5.1 has the efi bootloader installed. After I imaged the new empty partition with the OSX image, I simply put the chain0 file onto my vista boot drive and added the chain into boot.ini (if you don't have one, create one, this line needs to be added to the end: c:\chain0="Mac OS X").

I think because of the efi bootloader on the OSX partition my Vista bootloader had no problems picking up that bootloader. When I boot I see both entries (Vista and OSX, vista picks up the entry in boot.ini). When I hit OSX it goes right back to Vista bootloader. But if I quickly hit F8 (right AFTER hitting OSX in the bootloader), it shows me darwin bootloader and I can pick the OSX partition to boot from.

I fixed this later by adding Timeout (5sec) key into com.apple.Boot.plist. Now I can boot into either vista or osx via chain0. Hope this helps.

A couple of quick questions on that.

One....with this method do I use the startupfiletool method?

Also . . . do I need to add a line for vista in the boot.ini file? (since vista is already installed and running - and doesn't normally use it anyway)

So after some more investigating.....it looks as though the apple.boot.plist is sending it back to Vista when trying to dual boot (I'm in mac now with no problem when it is the active partition)

This is a copy of my boot.plist:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>

<!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd">

<plist version="1.0">

<dict>

<key>Boot Device</key>

<string>/PCI0@0/IDE0@1F,2/PRI@0/@0:2</string>

<key>Kernel</key>

<string>mach_kernel</string>

<key>Kernel Flags</key>

<string>cpus=1</string>

<string></string>

</dict>

</plist>

That first string with the pci info.....would that be sending the boot back to Vista if Vista is 0,1 and Leopard is 0,2?

Anyone know how to adjust it if it is?

I just did what you want. I switched out the card (by the way . . . .to get to you it have to take the screen, the keyboard, and the metal plate under the keyboad off - so if you aren't into that much tech work....don't).

It works under Leopard with a nvidia driver package I found on here, I haven't tried sleep yet though. While the Laptop was open I also put in a dell wireless 1500N card I got on ebay for 30.

Hopefully someone will have an answer to my last post about dual booting :)

You have to take the screen of ? I tought you just have to take the keyboard of ? Isnt it right under the keyboard by the went ? Can you please try sleep and see if it works. Thanks.Ok looked at the manual and I see that you have to take the screen of. I guess it should be ok, I can handle it lol. Got the Nvidia Geforce Go 7300 256mb of the ebay for 47 shipped. If this does not fix my sleep issue, I might just kill my self :) Please check to see if it works and also which drivers you used and which kernel ?

Also does QE/CI work ? and which drivers you used ?

Yep.....QE/CI working....sleep working with the ToH kernel....not sure about the vanilla...haven't put it back in. It updates with the ToH so I don't know if there will be any advantage by doing it.I don't remember where in here I found the driver but it was labeled GeForce.pkg.zip I'm sure you can do a search for it.And its not really taking the screen apart. Its just disconnecting it from the rest......you can't take the metal plate off from underneath the keyboard without doing so because of the video cable connecting the laptop to the screen. Its just a little tab you slide up and from the laptop and you can then remove the screen with the cable attached (after you unscrew a ton of screws for all of this (almost all on the bottom of the laptop - but some on the rear of it)Same type of little tab for the keyboard cable.

Here's what I did to get it working on mine :)Copy that networking that you are currently using to your desktop. Right click on it and show package contents. It will open up a new window. Do that till you see all the kexts contained within.Show the package contents of the older networking kext. Browse to the broadcom kext. Drag it over to the other window with the kexts that are currently installed. Close all the windows. Drag the networking kext from the desktop to where it should belong. Authorize it. (if it still doesn't allow it - it didn't on mine - trash bin the other and then replace with the fixed one).Then open up terminal and type the following commandssudo -schmod -R 755 /System/Library/Extensions/IONetworkingFamily.kextchown -R root:wheel /System/Library/Extensions/IONetworkingFamily.kextrm -f /System/Library/Extensions.kextcacherm -f /System/Library/Extensions.mkextdiskutil repairPermissions /Then reboot :)

NYC Coyote :

so with the things you've done ( replace the video card with 7300 GO ) you have almost fully capable system ? Maybe except the dual core enabled ?

Can you please tell what is working and what not. Speedstep,battery meter,etc.

I am considering buying 7300 of ebay too so i can get full resolution in OSX ( i have X1400 now,but its useless).

I am asking,because i've read various opinions for running/not-running specific functions on E1505/6400 and cant get it to myself what is running properly after all...

Thanks

Ok I`m going to install it, I think it might work with out any other kext just modify the IDs in the kext or I`ll use NVinject kext. I cant wait and a bit nervious about taking it apart. If you updated and didnt have to put the old kernel back in that means you are using the original vaanilla kernel. Does it look ok no tearing ? Boy I cant wait to have a very close to HACKBOOK PRO :)

So this is what I did to get everything working (except for dual booting damn it - I may just try to redo the image tonight incase I screwed something up).

1. Video - GeForce 7300 working perfectly with that package I mentioned earlier.

2. Sound - Sigmatel Audio - Used the 9200 txt with the HDA Patcher 15. The later ones didn't work. I get sound but no mic and no mute.

3. Ethernet - Dell Wireless 1500N - Works out of box

Broadcom 10/100 - Had to place the broadcom kext file within the new ionetworking kexy and run terminal commands

4. Efi - Works :) I'm using v 5 although I heard there is a ver 6 (If I rebuild - which may happen tonight - I am skipping the startupfiletool and just running it through the grub method)

5. Sleep - Appears to work - BUT not sure if I am using Vanilla Kernel or not - I didn't replace anything BUT in geekbench I show up as a Hackintosh....not a mac.

6. Updating - PERFECT - I'm running 10.5.1

7. Duo Core - Sort of - Both will run - but computer runs slower. So I use the cpus=1 added to the boot. Technically you are still using the whole chip, it just doesn't act like 2. Only software optimized for that will be slower.

Ok....only 2 pieces of software am I noticing so far not working. But not sure if its a leopard thing or a hackintosh thing.

1. Cisco VPN (Important to my line of work - I'm a tech and I vpn into a lot of clients who use it)

2. The Adobe Suite

3. Parallels does not seem to play nice with vista - caused it to crash actually :) Thank god for backups.

The pleasant surprise that does work is Microsoft's remote desktop for Mac which allows remote desktop connections to Windows Products :)

So before I wipe out this partition and start from scratch (its my second partition - 0s2) Any idea's why it won't dual boot with Vista - I keep having to make the partition Active to boot to it. And then make vista active to boot to that.

Well I see people getting it to work in this thread !

you show me one post that mentions a dell inspiron E1505/6400 with gma950 that got sleep working on leopard. PLEASE show me. its a no go here. but I see lots of people that get it to work with nvidia cards. I will upgrade mine to the nVidia GeForce Go 7300. Is $45 an OK price? sounds right to me (pulling out my cc).

as I see that there are Hispanics here also hope I can explain it means "Dell 1490 Wireless Mini PCIe from Ebay [Works out of the box]" more precisely the phrase "Works out of the box"

Thanks

saludos , como veo que tambien hay hispanos aqui espero me puedan explicar que significa "Dell 1490 Wireless Mini PCIe from Ebay[Works out of the box]" mas precisamente la frase "Works out of the box"

Gracias

educid, there is specific forum for Spanish language, if you want answers follow the RULES. Glad to answer you there if you want.

Dell 1490 is a Wireless Card that could replace te NOT compatible Intel cards on Dell Laptops.

[Works out of the box] means that the card works without doing anything but install physically, no need modifications to kexts or injects.

Tried installing some Synaptics trackpad driver, screwed up, made no backup. I think if i can replace the ApplePS2Controller.kext with the old one it'll function again. Anyone send me the file?

Also, I tried this

cd "/Volumes/(name-of-OSX-partition)"
diskutil repairPermissions ./
cd System/Library
rm -rf Extensions.mkext Extensions.kextcache
cd Extensions
find ApplePS2Controller.kext -type d -exec chmod 755 {} \;
find ApplePS2Controller.kext -type f -exec chmod 644 {} \;
chown -R root:wheel ApplePS2Controller.kext

but when I pressed enter on "cd Extensions", something like directory/file not found came out.

Anyone help? Suggestions?

Thx

ShiNZ

(I posted this somewhere else and no one helped.. Could someone at least please send/attach "ApplePS2Controller.kext" for me to download?)

Just a quick update on what's working and not:

1. Adobe Suiite CS3 - WORKING!!!! And Updating!!!!! :D

2. Cisco VPN - WORKING!!!!! They came out with a slightly newer version.

So now what would be ideal is:

1. Parallels working with Vista properly - Would be nice to boot up the other partition when I need to.

2. Sigmatel 9200 being able to mute, use speakers and headphones.

AND

Shutdown.....actually shutting down.....What up with that?????

Just thought I'd let you all know that after upgrading to 10.5.1, both cores and sleep work for me once more with the vanilla/stock kernel. I was using the 9.0.0 ToH kernel from the RC2 DVD, then installed Natit 0.2 (I'm using a 7900 GS), then installed my AppleHDA patch, then installed EFI 5.2, replaced AppleSMBIOS.kext with the EFI package version, and upgraded via Software Update. Seems that without any further patching, stock/'vanilla' 9.1.0 kernel seems to work and support both cores (T7200) and sleep once more. Brilliant stuff. I'll attach screenshots for you non-believers.

Also, despite the 10.4.10 AppleHDA patch working with Leopard, I fully intend to update the patch to be based on 10.5, which seems to use a new DSP/filtering library. Perhaps it may contain a few more surprises as well, but I've yet to look at it in any depth. Will get around to that as soon as I can, but it could be awhile given the hectic nature of the holiday season!

Any questions, let me know.

As mentioned in the initial post, T7200 processor and GeForce Go 7900 GS GPU. What other hardware would you consider relevant to dual-core functionality or sleep? ICH7 controller, 945GM chipset, etc. I'm triple-booting with Vista Home Premium x86 and Vista Ultimate x64.

Neither the chassis of the laptop nor the screen size would affect the ability to use both cores;  however, it's a 9400/E1705.
