weaselbringer
Devilhood... Thanks a billion for the guide, I have a Core2Duo Dell e1705 laptop, however, I notice that your guide is for several different versions of laptop, I'm finding it difficult to determine which kexts/solutionsn are targeted specifically at my model, as the guide does not differentiate between which system you're on, it just states solutions for all the included models, so I've found myself applying patches I didn't need and not knowing what to do, can you tell me what solutions are for the 9400/1705 specifically? Thanks Adam Dell E1705 (Core 2 Duo) Draft N Wireless (can't get to work after one reboot) ATIx1400 (Need Patch to fix resolution) I want to run only OSX on my laptop, I've disabled dual core in the bios, so I've never applied any patches or flags, let me know if you know of a working dual core patch though... babs
Perfect, huh? Does that means everything works perfectly out of the box? If I was to install it on my E1705 I would get full resolution and sound? I'm running Tiger and the only problem is my resolution is not native (I get 1024x1080 rather than 1440x900) and if Leopard fixed this, that would be great. And is it possible to do an upgrade from my old Tiger install? I'd prefer to keep my stuff on there, I have quite a bit. Thanks! I've upgrade Tiger with ToH DVD. Boot with ToH DVD install on the same Tiger partition. Reboot and Leopard works with all my Tiger stuff. Must add device id in ATI1000 kext to have CI and QE. Resolution change still not work. (see sig) And patch de Sigmatel 9200 with Taruga AppleHDA patcher V1.16. Screensaver don't work (black screen) and video did not play too (white screen...) search for a solution... roneil4
I wanted to let you all know that Leopard works great on my e1505 w/ gma950. To install, use the "make leopard boot" cd (on demonoid) first on your free partition, then install leopard w/ the brazilmac patched DVD (see link). Afterwards, remember to use the post patch. Also, you have to edit both of the shell scripts for the pre-patch and the post-patch beforehand. The edits on the post patch are very extensive, and to get it to work, I basically rewrote the entire thing. The files that I used to patch are attached here, but only attempt to edit these if you have extensive knowledge of the unix command prompt. For more detailed instructions, or to download the original files, go here: http://forum.osx86scene.com/viewtopic.php?...p;sk=t&sd=a for my files, go here: http://rapidshare.com/files/67268814/patch.zip.html All credit for this stuff goes to BrazilMac

I used to believe replacing that can solve the battery display problem, but cause the shutdown problem. But it turned out that the shutdown problem is not caused by it, but by the applehdapatcher. So you can safely replace it. Search the thread on the first page for it.
TheGreatDeceiver
thanks for that info, it worked perfectly fine here. no shutdown problems, got my battery meter working fine. only thing that does not work is sleep. and the minor issue of headphones not muting speakers. that would be just too perfect almost. but as i understand from all the other posts this is something that the dell systems will be doomed with since the gma shares the memory with the system? gruber
Hi. Does the bios have something to do with the install ? I have the lastest version on my E1505 from Dell's site (A19 i think ) and i am wondering will it prevent somehow a mac osx test. I made the mistake to update the bios with the latest version, and now even vista has problems with the hardware....too bad i cant find a reliable source for an old version of the E1505's bios. Although i have the X1400 and therefore even if i manage to get osx running i wont be able the enjoy the full resolution...
firestorm
Hey, First off i would like to say i have Installed Leopard on my Inspron 6400 installation went smooth and great useing the TOH dvd, like most of you know the Dual Core Capabilities just screwes up so one core is disabled used the patched AtiRadionx1000.kext so quatz is turned on with a resolution running at 1400x1050 manualy entered at the com.apple.boot.plist, sound has been patched and running thanks to the Taruga patch, Wireless and bluetooth runs on its own the only main concern is that within 10.4.9 and 10.4.10 was that the screen saver and videos everything would run fine after the video has been patched just with Leopard it doesn't seem ot wanna work, after patching can't view pictues with Preview or run any videos, so i dunno if anyone else is having this problem or if there is a way to fix it up.... and yea srry for the spelling i know my spelling sucks. Move the original to trash and copy the edited kext to System/Library/Extension. Delete Extensions.mkext in System/Library, Repair Disk Permission, Reboot and video and screensaver works... babs
Edit it how?!? its already been done in apple to run QE/CI what am i supose to edit in notepad?!? To enable QE/CI i must add device id (0x71451002) in ATIRadeon1000.kext. First time I did that in OSX with TextEdit. result no screensaver and video and QE/CI works. After reading your post i compare the contents of the original kext and the edited one. The content of the edited was not the same as the original. I miss some files. Now i have edit it under vista and the structure is the same as the original.
roneil4
I am having a video problem with leopard, and I want to know if anyone knows how to fix it. I have an intel core SOLO proccessor, and a GMA 950. My problem is that sometimes the mouse cursor has issues when changing the way it looks (see pic). It seems to happen almost all the time w/ ms word, but all applications do it sometimes. Also, a question to Babs, I saw in your signature that your ethernet works when using the ionetworkingfamily kext from 10.4.6, and although that worked for me in tiger, when I replace it in Leo, none of my networking works. Has it worked for you in leopard?

Langerak
Well, another answer from my side. Got Leopard working now on my Dell Inspiron 9400. I installed Tiger (uphuck) first and then did a upgrade to Leo with the ToH DVD and that seems to be working, no need to leave the DVD inside the drive. All my hardware except the cardreader is working and i still have a number of problems/issues for which i am looking for a solution: 1. When i boot i need to pass -v as boot parameter, else i get a Kernel Panic. 2. When i try to shut down, it actually shut's down, but my power LED keeps on burning and i have to turn it off manually with the powerbutton. 3. No battery icon in the menubar. (can someone post the .kext for me?) 4. Cannot use sleep, don't have a GMA900, but a GF7900GS Go. Altho it goes to sleep, it doesn't wake up anymore. Any answers, tip's or solutions for me? Note on number 3, can someone post the good .kext for me, so i can see a battery icon in the menu bar? Note on number 1, already ran the script, no luck, since i can boot, only not in graphical mode it seems. I have a WUXGA panel with a res of 1920x1200, so i don't think it's an unsupported resolution. My wireless (Dell 1490) and wired (BroadCom 440x) are working standard out of the box, so i was very happy with that, coz i really make use of the Locations feature, school, home, office etc . My audio needed to be patched with the AppleHDA patcher and is working, except the mute, which isn't a problem for me, since i don't use headphones on my laptop. My GF7900GS is working good, coz i have done a upgrade to Leo, so the NATIT driver is still in use . (Correct me if i am wrong!). Last day i had a official Apple Training here in Holland, so i've been thru the whole Apple softwarepack, Leo, iLife and iWork. Some new neat features in Leo, like the document stacking and be able to preview documents, even fullscreen without opening the corresponding program . And a note to yozh: Please make ur sig a bit smaller! We are all hoping for a sleep solution, no need to push it that way.
