I hope someone can help me with this one (mayb it's already posted somewhere else, in that case i haven't found it ;)).

I received my Dell 1490 Wireless card today which uses a Broadcom 4311 chip.

I put it in my Inspiron 9400 and booted OS X and voila it recognizes it and it discovers networks in the area.

Now the real problem is that i cannot connect to any network in the area, even my own router, no matter what i fill in it just keeps saying "Unable to connect to "Router name".

I am using WEP 128 bit (used other encryptions as well, with no success:) and on XP it's working, but on OS X it fails to connect.

My router is a ASUS WL500g Deluxe

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

Leopard works perfectly on the Dell's, I know of a few people running it.

I haven't got round to trying it myself though, been so incredibly busy as of late :D

Perfect, huh? Does that means everything works perfectly out of the box? If I was to install it on my E1705 I would get full resolution and sound? I'm running Tiger and the only problem is my resolution is not native (I get 1024x1080 rather than 1440x900) and if Leopard fixed this, that would be great.

And is it possible to do an upgrade from my old Tiger install? I'd prefer to keep my stuff on there, I have quite a bit. Thanks!

I tried the downloaded seed.

the installation was slower compared with tiger. it took more than 15 minutes to get into the language selection part.

after the installation, i tried to patch the leopard with the PATCHER USB key as introduced in the guidance.

however, the patch process was not very successful, the message shows that some of the files cannot be copied or replaced.

then i chose yes for removing the powermanagement kext, and yes for reboot.

then when i tried to reboot, it stucked at the very first black screen (like even before the DELL bios screen came out)

in a word, the installation failed for 2 times.

Never mind, my wireless is working on Tiger 4.10 ;).

There was a setting wrong in my router lol, so fixed it and now i can use 128 bit wep and it works like a charm!

BTW, the Dell 1490 works standardly out of the box, even after the AirPort updates (for me tho ;)). and it costs $9.99 on Ebay, bought it and came from Austin, Texas to me in Rotterdam, Netherlands in 9 days! That's service!

Just got a hand on the Leopard torrent and downloaded it, but before i install it i want to know what's working on it and what not.

Can someone give a list or something, i guess more ppl would like to know that!

I have a Inspiron 9400 with a GF 7900GS.

Disable MultiCore support in the BIOS and u are lost of the speed problems :).

I have a almost perfect Leopard on my E1705.

The iso I used is Brazil patched one.

The post patch can be downloaded here: http://www.filesend.net/download.php?f=495...dfdb154cb37760b

Try to erase with a Tiger installation disk, otherwise, it won't boot

Install Leopard with all other options unselected

After installation, try to patch it before the computer restart countdown finishes, which will save you a lot of time waiting again.

Open up terminal, and type the following:

cd ..

cd ..

cd ..

cd Volumes

cd 123

cd files

./9a581PostPatch.sh

y

y

Then reboot with the leopard disk in the drive.

In Leopard, go to disk utility and repair permissions of Disk Leopard.

Restart.

Open up terminal and type the following:

sudo cp /Volumes/123/files/i386/boot1h /usr/standalone/i386/

sudo cp /Volumes/123/files/i386/boot0 usr/standalone/i386/

sudo fdisk -e /dev/rdisk0

update

f 1

w

y

q

sudo reboot

Then you may take out your Leopard installation disk from the drive when it restarts

Patch the soundcard with previous 1.16 version of AppleHDAPatcher, the replace the kext with the one with mic and subwoofer (may be found in this thread).

Restart

Install the X11, printer drivers with the Tiger installation disk.

Now you have a nearly perfect Leopart running on you 9400.

Things work out of the box: NV7900GS, Dell 1390, Dell 350 bluetooth

Sleep still not working

do not replace the powermanagement.bundle, unless you don't mind having no shut down option.

Sounds like you're having dual-booting issues to me, check out my thread here: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=39253
Disable MultiCore support in the BIOS and u are lost of the speed problems .
There is no need to disable anything in the BIOS.You just need to boot with cpus=1

Devilhood: thanx for this great how-to, very usefull for me. And i really appreciate that it is updated.

I've got a suggestion: can you put the date of the last update in head for the topic. In that way, we can fastly to see if something new is in your How-To...

Bye.

Well, this guide is kick ass through and through. Only problem I have left is Sound. I have 10.4.9 kernel and I have sound working with every little aspect except headphone auto-muting. The guide does mention that I can use the modified Info.plist for the SigmaTel STAC 9200 to fix this right? Where it says: "Grab the modified kext from this post and the new mute-fixed modded Info.plist from here."

Or am I just misinterpreting the description for another aspect that is fixed and that I can't really have it auto-muting with headphones?

Hi all, Long time reader first time poster.

First off I would say this thread has helped me a lot already and thanks for putting in all the hard work to all those who have contributed.

Secondly, I know this really isn’t a place to seek help/ ask questions but I must ask a question because I too am a Dell owner.

I have a Dell 1720 (specs at bottom) and mac.nub’s OSx86 Tiger - 10.4.10 - Version 1, Revision 5 Install DVD. I partitioned my hard drive and created a primary Fat 32 partition. When the boot disk loads up the GUI, I go to the Disk Utilities and only my DVD drive is recognized and not my hard drive. Is there something that I can do to allow the hard drive to be recognized so that I am able to install?

P.S. I previously had the JaS flavour of 10.4.8 PPF1+PPF2 OSX running but, it always was able to recognize my hard drive when installing or in OSX.

Specs are as follow:

CPU - Intel Core Due 2 T7500 (2.16 ghz)

Mainboard – Dell 0FP441 (whatever that means)

Memory – 2048 MB DDR2 PC2 5300

HDD – 250 GB SATA 5200 RPM

Graphics – Gforce 8600M GS

@ ashura on my dell itsworking fine i used the Taruga patcher you get it here v1.16 http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...mp;#entry345499

then get a linux codec dum I fount it here http://psykopat.free.fr/apple/AppleHDA/sigmatel/Stac9200.txt

just save the fileput them both on your desk top now drag and drop the text file on the applehda icon thing will happen by them selfs.if sound is not working right for you try a few other versions there are quite a lot of themhttp://psykopat.free.fr/apple/AppleHDA/sigmatel/

hope it works out for you.

@ PERORIA did you set your sata to ich in de bios ?

Oke i got a dell 6400 with the intel video chip gma 950 and leopard flat image

well it all works great but i got some problems with the mouse pointer. when the mouse pointer goes from pointer to a hand or to a text feeld the old image of the pointer sticks a round for a few secs. than dissepeers . so i hooked up the drive to my P5W DH booted and had no problems at all. so makes me think its a Dell problem any one else having problems under leopard and had a intel video gma 950 chip?

Thanks for responding candyKane.

I tried googling ‘ich’ and looking in my BIOS for it but, I could not find what it is or how to enable/disable it, could someone explain what ‘ich’ is and how to enable/disable it.

Thanks in advance.

I had already used the patched before and as I said in my original post; I have working audio. It's just the auto-muting for the speakers when headphones are inserted is what I need. Regardless, I did try almost all of those codec dumps but it was the same results everything, although I admit it cleaned up my output device list at least. Anyways, would creating my own linux codec dump help rectify this problem for me? If so, what could I use to do it?

Being a laptop, proper headphone support is something I really need.

Has anyone gotten dual displays to work with a nvidia 7900gs. Using NVInjectGo 0.0.9 it seems that the VGA and internal work, but the DVI does not.. Can anyone else confirm this??

If someone does have it working.. what am i missing.

Thanks

(running 10.4.9 system.kext/kernel | 10.4.10 others)
