I just got my E1505 working with OSX86 and (after ripping apart the laptop and putting in a Geforce 7300) it works great... except for two things.

I tried the "Put the laptop to sleep and wake it to get both cores working" thing, but if I turn on the laptop with both cores on, OSX crashes right after it hits the GUI. I have been able to get it to sleep with one core on however. Any way to get around that? (EDIT: I should note, I have the Core duo CPU, not Core 2 duo)

Also, I have the 1500 draft-n card, and while it works great for open networks, I can't get any one with encryption, such as my schools PEAP network. It will connect, but not authorize. I'm not sure if it's OSX, the network card, or my schools setup (I can get it running with Windows and Linux), so I just wanna check if there are any problems with these cards and encrypted networks in OSX. :-D

One more thing I forgot: While I got the sound working on my system, I can't get the updated AppleHDA kext that's in this thread to work. I put it into my extensions folder, then put in the modded Info.plist, but when I restart I have no sound at all. What do you need to do to get it to work?

Sorry for all the questions, I'm just trying to get everything working :-D

Download the AppleHDAPatcher (do a search, it should be one of the first links), and download stac9200.txt from here: http://psykopat.free.fr/apple/AppleHDA/sigmatel/Just drag stac9200.txt onto the applehdapatcher and it'll do the rest.

Also, a question:I'm thinking about getting a different video card for my E1505 which would work better with OS X. Is there a video card compatible with my system which works perfectly under OS X? My Mobility Radeon x1400's okay, but I get mouse tearing which pisses me off.

I already know how to do that. I need to get mute and the subwoofer working. I can't get those modded kexts to work. :(

I also got my 1705 working after disabling dual core support in the bios. I thought I read somewhere it is possible to get both cores working but can't seem to find it. Is this a problem with both Core Duo and specifically Dell? I've been thinking of upgrading. Any suggestions would be welcomed. Thx.

Hey guys

I'm having two main (and really annoying issues):

1.) Video - Color banding - I have Diabolik's Nvidia Installer, LaptopDisplay.kext from HERE and Natit.kext (Natit_edited) from here HERE and no dice!

2.) Sleep - good news is, when I put the whole computer to sleep, it will awake when I press the power button. bad news is: when my display turns off or go to sleep), it won't come back on properly. The screen is lit with the backlight, but nothing is visible.

can anyone please help?

thx

Have same problem with an E1405 with GMA950 graphics. Closing the lid will cause the display to turn off and not come back on, but the computer is still on. It turns out that if you wait a while, the system will tell the display to "turn off" due to inactivity (even when you've already turned it off by closing the lid). Once that happens, you can then wake the display back up with the trackpad or keyboard.

My solution was to go to the Energy Saver settings and set the Display turn-off timer to 1 minutes (so worst case you have to wait 1 minute to get your display back up). I also downloaded an app called "Sleep Display" which manually sleeps your LCD. Find a way to assign a shortcut to it, and remember to sleep your display before you close the lid.

Hope that made sense.

EDIT: Sorry, I should add that this doesn't fix the sleep problem, only the problem of closing your display lid, opening it, and not having video. Still it makes for a more usable computer.

I found something interesting on the e1405 dell gma950 laptop I have

With a stock uhuck 1.3 install, the laptop will enter some form of sleep when I shut the lid

when I open the lid it partly wakes up, but the lcd will not, when I hook up an external LCD, it wakes up the laptop display

I can repeat this over and over

if I hit the power button and tell it to sleep, it will not wake up at all, I'm thinking this is a lower level of sleep, vs shutting the laptop lid

I'm not sure if there's a way to wire a loopback into the VGA port to trigger the laptop screen to wake up

Guide works great! I was unable to get sleep, NTFS, and audio working without this guide on my E1505. Now everything except wireless is working like a charm!

This will work until I can buy a MacBook! Great guide.

Edit: Quick error, help if you can. My system does sleep, and I can wake it, however the system locks up after it wakes from sleep. Any ideas?

Hi all. I thought I would share my success with getting sleep and dual core working.

First the specs:

E1705 with Core Duo

A09 Bios

7900 Nvidia GS

Background: I dual core working with the sleep trick with an uphuck install. I have no idea why it worked but it did, so I was happy. Then I messed up my system tinkering with it and it wouldn't boot without cpus=1 anymore, so I decided to reinstall and see what I could do. I tried many variations with uphuck, but no luck. I could get sleep to work with the single core, but when I booted dual core, it would either go to a blank screen with some flickers or it would go to a blue screen. Either way it was locked up. So i searched the forum and in one post someone had said they used the JAS install with the combo update and that's how they got sleep working (i think it was pawel or prasys or somebody). anyway, I thought i would try that since i had the JAS install disk from my prior install. So here are the steps I used and so far it is working fine.

1. Install JAS 10.4.8 (i installed the powermanagement kext also)

2. reboot with cpus=1 (remember to hit F8 immediately after the Dell bios screen)

3. repair permissions (probably could have done the next step then repaired both, but dual core is so flaky on these dells that I want to give my steps exactly.

4. Install Diabolick 10.4.9 (i know it is for 10.4.9, but i installed it first, mostly by accident, but it worked)

5. repair permissions

6. reboot with cpus=1

7. go into terminal and type in "sudo pmset -a hibernatemode 0"

8. go into "Energy Saver" settings and change both settings to 'never' and uncheck 'put hard drive to sleep'

9. I rebooted and went into cpus=1 to test sleep and when it worked, i rebooted with dual core and tested.

10. i wrote down everything i did to get it to work because I'm sure i will kill it again some day.

Notes: I always have -v in my kernal flags and I've read it has needed to be there for some installs, so i don't mess with leaving it out. I'm also not using any other kernel flags other than '-v'

Hope this helps some poor soul and saves them a few extra installs. From my experience, it seems if you can't get sleep working pretty quickly with a fresh install, you are out of luck. In other words if you have an old install, I doubt you can get it to work.

cyonix: yes this is without HDD because you cannot expect hi speed from a lappy :)

I am running 10.4.9 whit

Darwin Elinor.local 8.9.1 Darwin Kernel Version 8.9.1: Thu Mar 15 20:55:00 PST 2007; netkas: 792.18.15~1/RELEASE_I386 i386 i386 kernel

i got it from the Jas 4.9 update after it i have native sleep no editing or something ... it even wakes when i open the lid of the laptop :) my only problem whit this kernel is so the sound is crappy in the first few seconds , but if i change the kernel i have to say goodbye to sleep and high performance of the system ... ;)

Oh here is my list of Extensions for you

My system performance just fine regardless of what kernel I use, except that if I want to get Sleep mode working I need to use the ACPI release.

Devilhood:

I used the Acpi release but the performance is dropping down to the level of 1 CPU core except the threat test in Xbench and since i am in the VJ area i need avery CPU cycle i can take from it

i am currently digging the internet for a kernel that does not require ACPI for sleep functionality , because with this current kernel i have a crappy sound :(

And whit this kernel I am not using any ACPI cpu scaling stuff to make it sleep

P.S. i just want to ask again about my audio issue ... i do not have line out from the lappy .... Is anyone having a clue about that ?

hi synth, i also want to use my notebook for vj stuff. the second core is very useful for this.

with my current installation i can use second core with paulicats 8.9.1 kernel. other kernels make me go in singlemode. loginwindow crashes i think or some problems with the wlan adapter.

yesterday i install the new xXx osx 10.4.10 from demonoid which has a lot kernels and other patches on the dvd. but have the same issues like in uphucks releases. after i went sleep i try to wake up and display goes on but black and the HD-led dont blink only shine the whole time.

is it maybe the opengl.framework or powermanagement.bundle which cause this problem?

or the nvidia kext files? can u devilhood post your nvidia kexts, i mean the geforce.kext nvdanv40hal ....

@synth: i dont have any sound problems with my current installation (signature)
